Position Description
Research Administration Officer
Position Context
The College of Science, Health and Engineering comprises 9 Schools and 16 Departments across La
Trobes multi-campus operations. The College offers a range of general and specialist undergraduate
and postgraduate courses that are rigorous and attuned to meeting the needs of students in ensuring
their readiness to work in changing environments. Our courses are appropriately linked to emerging
trends and critical global issues. The College research achievements have an outstanding reputation
for their innovation and contribution to society and are at the forefront of building strong relationships
with industry partners.
The La Trobe Rural Health School is the largest rural health school in Australia. LRHS is based at all
four regional campuses of the University: Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton and Albury-Wodonga. The
School has a wide range of health courses including dentistry, nursing, oral health, paramedics, public
health, physiotherapy, social work, podiatry, speech pathology, exercise science and physiology, as
well as occupational therapy. Due to significant Commonwealth Government funding, we have start
of the art teaching and simulation areas.
The key function of this position will be to provide research administrative support to the Head of
School.
Duties may include:

Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the Head of Schools research agenda,
so as to be able to support the Head of School on research-related matters
Providing high quality, efficient and accurate research-related service to the Head of School
Prompt decision-making and application of resolutions relating to research-related matters
with a minimum level of supervision
Maintaining records and files, and data systems and websites in a well-organised manner,
and having a good level of understanding and capability around relevant university systems
Working closely with other members of the College and School teams, carrying out key
research-related tasks and provide accurate and current advice to the Head of School. This
will require:
A proactive team approach to ensure the required outcomes are delivered to
deadlines and compliance requirements
Minimising risk through the appropriate application of duty of care, process, policy
and procedure
Maintaining relevant research-related data-bases for the Head of School
Conducting literature searches using relevant data-bases and up-to-date search strategies
Supporting the key research activities of the Head of School by liaising with internal and
external stakeholders. Tasks may include (but not be limited to):
Timely and accurate collection of a range of research data
Supporting the organisation of events, conferences and workshops
Developing collaborative working relationships with the key stakeholders and
maintaining currency of policy and process for tasks this position undertakes
Undertaking other duties as required by the Head of School

Key Selection Criteria


A relevant clinical/health sciences degree ideally with subsequent relevant work experience
or an equivalent combination of education, training and /or experience
Highly developed written and spoken communication skills
Knowledge and experience pertaining to research processes (e.g. grant writing, preparation
of human research ethics committee applications, data collection, storage, and analysis)
Ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders to facilitate smooth data collection processes
Familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
An ability to respond to people positively, confidently and with respect
Ability to interpret and apply relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in
the day to day performance of the functions of the position
Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a busy environment. This
includes confidentiality, versatility, and flexibility, enthusiasm with strong level of selfmotivation and initiative with demonstrated ability to work as a co-operative, supportive and
positive member of a team supporting continuous improvement
Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple activities and deadlines simultaneously
Computer literacy in systems, including Word, Excel, Outlook, SPSS, EndNote
