Scoliosis Permission Letters have been sent home for all 6th and 8th grade
students. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015 LGMS in cooperation with
Henry County Health Department, will conduct a screening program on
our 6th and 8th grade students for Scoliosis (curvature of the
spine). Scoliosis is most often seen in the middle school age group, when
rapid growth is occurring. If this condition is detected early, follow-up is
essential to determine treatment options to prevent possible spinal
deformities. Please return the Scoliosis Permission Letter to the
students homeroom teacher by November 11, 2015.

Attending school regularly is very important if students want to succeed in school. Georgia law requires
that all children between the ages of six (6) and sixteen (16) attend school unless they have a lawful
reason to be absent.
The Henry County Handbook states the following regarding school attendance:
Students who have more than five (5) days of unexcused absences during the school year will be
considered truant. The legal penalties for truancy include referral of students to Juvenile Court and
referral of parents to State Court. Any Georgia resident who has control or charge of a child who is
convicted of violating mandatory school attendance requirements will be subject to a fine of not less
than $25.00 and not more than $100.00, imprisonment not to exceed 30 days, community service, or
any combination of such penalties per absence.

in your child going home their normal way.

ask for a change) and include a parent or guardian signature.
- A working phone number must be included on the request. The
attendance clerk will contact you in order to confirm that the
change request is correct. If she cannot reach the number that is
listed, your child will go home as originally planned.
- ALL TRANSPORTATION CHANGES MUST BE GIVEN TO THE
ATTENDANCE CLERK BY 10:00 AM. Late requests will not be
honored.

We need you!
Do you love your job? Do you own your business? We need YOU to share career information
with our FACS and Business classes. Students completed interest surveys to determine their
top career clusters and then they conducted research on their favorite careers. Now we need
to hear from people in the real world. Students like to learn how you chose your career,
what training or college was required, what benefits do you receive, how you are able to move
up the career ladder, and, of course, how much money someone in your field will earn. If you
are willing to talk to our classes this semester or next semester, please contact Dr. Falkner at
Lynett.falkner@henry.k12.ga.us to schedule a day and time. Class times are 9:20-10:12 (7th
grade), 10:15-11:05 (7th), 12:20-1:10 (8th), 1:30-2:00 (8th), 2:35-3:25 (6th), 3:28-4:15
(6th). Thanks!
Are you ready for Black Friday shopping? Please consider donating your used items to our
FACS classroom. Some of our wishes are listed below. You can also make a financial
contribution at Donors Choose. You may drop off items in the office or contact Dr. Falkner

Local Students Attend Fall Leadership Conference

Perry, GA Youth from the Locust Grove Middle School chapter of Family, Career and
Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in a motivational rally held on
Wednesday, October 14 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Georgia. Over 4,700
students and advisers from schools across Georgia participated in the leadership rally
session and competed in events. Along with other advisers and members from across the
state, Locust Grove Middle School's FCCLA Chapter Adviser, Lynett Falkner, accompanied
members to the meeting.

The Georgia National Fair competitions began on Tuesday, October 13 with students
competing in the Annual Chili Cook-Off for high school and middle school students. The next
day, students attended the 2015 FCCLA Fall Leadership Rally in Reaves Arena. The "Together
We AreGoing Beyond" theme was used throughout the rally. The motivational rally was
followed by the Peanut Recipe Contest sponsored by Georgia Peanut Commission, the
Family and Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl, Culinary Knowledge Bowl, Middle School
Knowledge Bowl and the Culinary Competition.

About FCCLA
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), is a dynamic and effective national
student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important
personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA
has over 200,000 members and over 6,500 chapters from 50 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the
Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience is unique among youth organizations because its
programs are planned and run by members. It is the only career and technical in-school student
organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter
activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.

Back in September, Jr. HOSA

students participated in a school
community project to support our
Autism class.
Students learned about different
types of disabilities and spent time
visiting these students in their
classroom.
