A leader needs to have strong networking skills, the ability to work with others and

lead them to work efficiently and effectively as team members. Other than leading,
motivating and communicating, the leader needs to resolve conflicts and coordinate
members to prevent disharmony which will inevitably affect the whole team and its
productivity. These problems can be prevented when the leader respects the team
members, allows participation and expression to showcase their talent, hence,
permitting them to contribute hundred percent to the community. This would build a
sense of belonging to the team and instil self confidence in the members.
I learnt all these qualities during my participation during undergraduate studies in
non-government organization working for thalassemia kids. Being in charge of
finance team, I had to frequently contact with my tutors and other team members in
the planning of donor conferences and create awareness among citizens at various
cities across the country. My team would interact frequently via weekly preparation
and on social media, hence, enhancing the productivity and coordination between
members.
Other than involving in voluntary activities, I worked since university to gain
experience and industry networks. I worked with Barqaab Consulting Services
Private Limited and Pak Elecktron Limited for around two years where I was
continuously in touch with customers, suppliers and industry experts.
I often attend seminars in and outside of university to broaden my networks. During
my studies in university, I secured a part-time assistant job with a Quaid-e-Azam
University (QAU) professor through a seminar conducted in university. I
consecutively participated in two different projects in the research of controlling
thalassemia among kids which is an important issue in Pakistan. Recently, I
attended a seminar conducted at University of Central Punjab by the Institute of
Health Studies to kick start in a new area of interest. The event was amazing due to
the discussion of the guests from the government sector to private companies and
NGOs. Through the event, I managed to widen my contacts and gain more insights
on the views of government and different sectors and how they would like to work
together
to
solve
the
emerging
issues.
Networking skill is critical since I aspire to work in the Nation Energy Research
Institute in Pakistan, the national body that contacts local and international industry
and leaders to resolve the energy crises. I hope that as a Chevening scholar, it will
allow me to leverage the knowledge of other scholars to find a solution to this global
issue.

I have applied for following three courses with priority given to MSc Electrical Engineering and
Renewable Energy Systems program in Leeds University.
1. University of Leeds - MSc Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems
2. Cardiff University: MSc Electrical Energy Systems
3.

University

of

Birmingham:

MSc

Systems

I have chosen above universities for its strong linkages with relevant industries and wide
research areas. The schools offer small class size and have diverse nationalities giving a varied of
cultures, perspectives and professional backgrounds. I have always been interested to study and
research in energy systems. Renewable energy and cutting carbon emissions now top the global
environmental agenda. Unfortunately in Pakistan programs related to energy system engineering
is very limited and also not equipped with latest technologies. Therefore, I will like to have the
chance to study energy systems in depth in any of the above stated university.
As I studied electrical power engineering at undergraduate and graduate level and also gain
working experience in the field of energy systems. Currently I am working on a research project
related to redesigning of energy management system considering in view the penetration of
renewable energies into grid. For this there is an urgent need to learn how solar, wind or other
energy sources can be efficiently integrated into practical power systems. I strongly believe that
further education in energy system will equip me with the required skills and knowledge and
being a Chevening scholar will give me an advantage to the right solution.
As a Commonwealth citizen, I aspire to study in the Great Britain. Having done electrical power
engineering, Chevening scholarship gives me a chance to further study in the United Kingdom.
Studying energy system engineering in the United Kingdom is a great advantage to my future
contribution as both governments are cooperating in a energy sector. As a future Chevening
scholar, I hope to be an engineering education in energy system will empower me to make a
valuable contribution to overcome energy crises.

Internet is a necessity to majority of the first world citizens, like me. As technology
advances, lifestyles changed drastically. Everything has gone from paper to online,
like how the government and private sector works to communication and social life
of individual. Due to the high reliance and vulnerability of the Internet, cybercrime
and cyber attacks have become common. This greatly impacts the economy and
may even threaten the national security due to the losses of financial and
information assets. Cyber security becomes one of the greatest concern for both
developed
and
developing
countries.
I got phished when I was a teenager, my email account got hacked but lucky enough
it didn't incurred any financial losses or loss of important data. However, till this day, I
will receive spams daily and frequent news on data breach of companies or national
bodies attacked by crackers. The fact that the current cyber security depends on
one never making any mistakes, and attacking depends on finding one person who
can make a mistake is a problem. This experience solidified my interest in cyber
security policy, finding the balance of protection yet privacy of individuals.
My long term goal is to be a policy maker in national cyber security. My immediate
objective is to join Cyber Security Agency or security institute like the INTERPOL
Global Complex for Innovation, which focuses on the cybersecurity field. My priority
is to join the Agency, a government organisation established in April this year that
oversees Singapore's cyber security through collaboration with other ministries
(Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education and Infocomm Development
Authority) and private sectors. Joining the agency will help me learn the current
policies and how it is enforced. In the medium term of my career, I would like to work
in the private sector to understand how well the policies are implemented and how
policies can be improved to solve the unresolved issues. After gaining enough
experience and skills, I would be ready to venture back to the public sector to
improve the policies, ensuring cyber space security not just of Singapore's but the
world
cyber
space
as
a
whole.
Cyber security is a real concern as Singapore is moving towards a SMART nation,
having all citizens connected to the internet and institutions to work online to
promote productivity and efficiency. Singapore plans to collaborate with British and
French governments to ensure cyber space security and as a Chevening scholar, I
will be able to gain experience and knowledge of British cyber security policies and
helped me in the future of policy making.
