Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation announces

Call for Product for Alaska Symphony of Seafood in 2016
New category added - Beyond the Egg
WRANGELL, Alaska (Tuesday, November 17th) Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation
(AFDF) announced today that the Call for Product for the Alaska Symphony of Seafood in 2016
is now available. The Alaska Symphony of Seafood is a competition for value-added products
made from Alaska seafood. Entry forms and fees will be due by January 8, 2016. All information
will be available at AFDFs website: http://www.afdf.org/symphony-of-seafood/
A new category will also be introduced this year called, Beyond the Egg and will broadly include
products made with roe or uni, such as jarred ikura, herring roe-on-kelp, uni paste, or uni crme
brulee. A significant portion of the value and health benefits in any fishery resource is found
in the roe. Now, the Alaska Symphony of Seafood will have a category in which these valuable
roe products will be recognized and promoted, and further product development will be
encouraged, said Julie Decker, Executive Director of AFDF. The Beyond the Egg category will
join Beyond the Plate, which was a new category in 2015 and wildly successful. We are pleased
to offer these new categories which reflect exciting recent developments in the seafood
industry.
Each product entered in the competition is grouped into one of four categories: Retail,
Foodservice, Beyond the Plate, or Beyond the Egg. Product entries are then individually
evaluated by a panel of expert judges during a private judging session. Evaluations are based on
the products packaging and presentation, overall eating experience, price and potential for
commercial success. First, second, third and grand prize winners will be awarded, as well as the
Peoples Choice from each promotional event.
The winners will be given an opportunity to display their winning products at Seafood Expo
North America in Boston. Promotional events will also be held in Seattle, Juneau and
