8:00 am until
Friendship Park
Columbia, MS

CDH is more than

just a hernia
Congenital Diaphragmatic
Hernia (CDH) occurs when the
diaphragm fails to form or to
close totally and an opening
allows abdominal organs into
the chest cavity. This inhibits
lung growth.
CDH occurs in approximately
1 in 2,500 births, 1,600 cases
in the U.S. each year. The
diaphragm is formed in the first
trimester of pregnancy and
controls the lungs ability to
inhale and exhale. The cause
of CDH is not yet known.
Over 1600 babies are born
with Congenital Diaphragmatic
Hernia EVERY YEAR in the
United States alone.
With a 50% survival rate, 800
of those babies will die. Today,
and every day, at least 4
families will be devastated with
the news of CDH.

The Race to Raise CDH Awareness is a 5k

run/walk that will begin at 8:00 am at
Friendship Park in Columbia, MS. A 1-mile
Fun Run for kids ages 9 and under will take
place around the Friendship Park track.
After the Fun Run, we will release balloons
in memory of Sela Marie.

Sela Marie was born to David and Laura

Anderson of Foxworth, MS on March 14, 2014.
She had been diagnosed with a Congenital
Diaphragmatic Hernia at only 20 weeks inutero. Sela had just 23 days to spend with
family and friends but touched an
immeasurable amount of people during her
time with us. The footprints you see here are
Selas very own and represent the imprint she
made in our lives. We continue to celebrate
Sela by raising awareness about CDH.
