Responsibilities
There are over 4500 Unix servers in Target used for various applications. Unix patching team is enrolled with the task of
deploying patches on these servers on a quarterly basis so as to overcome security vulnerability and ensure system
compatibility with latest applications.

Installation of patch bundle.

Coordinating among various teams for proper shutdown and start up of applications.

Failover of applications that are in cluster to other nodes to ensure availability of business critical applications.

Troubleshooting all issues that occur during the patching window and ensure servers are handed over to

application team as it was prior to patching.

Coordinating with clients to finalize outage window.

Managing resource allocation across various shifts.

The entire patching process was scripted to reduce manual intervention. Scripts were developed for creating

alternate boot environment and system level verification post patching.

Scheduling meeting with clients and management to share updates.
