7.

45% of the students of a particular college are girls. 85% of the girls of the college passed in mathematics, while only
65% of the boys passed in mathematics. Find the overall percentage of students who passed in mathematics. Also:
a. If a randomly selected student is found to have passed in mathematics, what is the probability that the student is
a girl?
b. If a randomly selected student is found to have failed in mathematics, what is the probability that the student is a
boy?

The heights of athletes in a population can be assumed to follow a normal distribution, with a mean of 58 and a
standard deviation of 8. Find the percentage of athletes who would be expected to be shorter than 5, the percentage
of athletes who would be expected to be between 56 and 6 in height, and the percentage of athletes who would be
expected to be taller than 7.

9.

chocolate ice cream. Is there a significant difference between the men and women in their preference to chocolate ice
cream (at = 5%)?
