Decocon A (Naphazoline Hydrochloride) is a direct acting
sympathomimetic adrenergic alpha-agonist used to induce systemic
vasoconstriction, thereby decreasing nasal congestion and inducing
constriction around the conjunctiva.
The

sympathomimetic

action

of

Decocon A (Naphazoline

Hydrochloride) constricts the smaller arterioles of the nasal


passages, producing a decongesting effect.

Decocon A (Naphazoline Hydrochloride) ophthalmic causes


constriction of blood vessels in the eyes. It also decreases itching
and irritation of the eyes.
One to two drops every 4-6 hours or as required to relieve

Drug Interaction

Persistent redness or irritation


Furazolidone or MAO inhibitors (eg, phenelzine) risk of severe
high blood pressure and fast heartbeat may be increased.
1. Elderly patients using Decocon A with known history of severe
cardiovascular

disease,

and

diabetes

should

be

closely

monitored.
2. Instruct to not rinse the dropper. Replace the dropper cap tightly
after each use.
3. Before using, instruct to check this product visually. Do not use
if the liquid has changed color or is cloudy. Discard the
medication away from children and pets.
4. Instruct to stop use and ask a doctor if you feel eye pain, changes
in vision occur, redness or irritation of the eye(s) gets worse or
lasts more than 72 hours.
5. When using this product, inform pupils may become enlarged
temporarily.
6. To apply eye drops, wash

your

hands first.

avoid

contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your

eye or any other surface.


7. Instruct to remove contact lenses before applying the eye drops.
Wait at least 10 minutes after using this medication before
inserting contact lenses. If your eyes are red, ask your doctor
whether you should wear your contact lenses.
8. If you are using another kind of eye medication (e.g., drops or
ointments), wait at least 5 minutes before applying other
medications. Use eye drops before eye ointments to allow the
drops to enter the eye.
9. Inform that overuse of this type of medication may result in
increased eye redness (rebound effect when drug wears off). If
this occurs, tell your doctor.
10. Do not use this medication for longer than 3 to 4 days at a time.
If your condition persists or worsens after 72 hours, or if you
think you may have a serious medical problem, stop using this
