Chapter 8 Case Study
Topic: Information Systems

1. If you have a project team of 40 members consisting of 10 SAP experts, 10 SAP power
users who are also experts in various NIBCO processes, 10 end-users, who are familiar with
some process knowledge, and 10 information systems staff, how would you allocate
resources in the Figure CI-8-1 through CI-8-5?
I personally would allocate the resource of 40 members in different ways depending on which
path is taken for the project. The following would be my allocation for the various proposed
schedules
Figure CI-8-1 (Baseline)

3 SAP experts and 3 information systems staff for Preparation phase

2 SAP experts, 2 information systems staff, 2 SAP power users and 3 end users for the
Analysis phase
3 SAP experts, 3 information systems staff, 5 SAP power users and 3 end users for the
Design phase
2 SAP experts, 2 information systems staff, 3 SAP power users and 4 end users for the
Implementation phase

3 SAP experts and 2 information systems staff for Trained Core Team
10 end users for the Trained End Users
3 SAP experts, 2 information systems staff, 4 SAP power users for Testing ERP solution
4 SAP experts, 1 information systems staff, 3 SAP power users for Stabilizing
infrastructure
5 information systems staff for Qualified On-site Support

2. What are the criteria and drivers that would ensure project completion for each one of
the plans proposed in Figures CI-8-1 through CI-8-5?
The criteria and drivers that would ensure project completion for each one of the proposed plans
is:
Figure CI-8-1 (Baseline)

For the baseline plan, criteria and drivers would include to focus on the minimum project
completion with equal distribution of team members.

Figure CI-8-2 (Critical Path)

For the critical path project plan, criteria and drivers would include to keep all team
members focused in their part of the project with only minimal additional support of the
various stages.

Figure CI-8-3 (Maximum Performance)

For the maximum performance project plan, criteria and drivers would include the
organization having to first start to perform at a very superior level to attain the maximum
performance possible that coincided with the baseline schedule.

Figure CI-8-4 (Standard Performance)

For the standard performance project plan, criteria and drivers would include the
organization having to perform at a standard level to attain the standard performance.

Figure CI-8-5 (Minimum Performance)

For the minimum performance project plan, criteria and drivers would include the
organization having to perform at a lower level to attain the minimum performance.
