Tata Chemicals Ltd Shuts Down Two Units Of DAP Plant In West BengalBusiness Standard
May 08, 2013
Business Standard reported that Tata Chemicals Ltd said it has temporarily closed
down two units of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) at Haldia plant in West Bengal
due to disruption in supply of phos acid. The Company said that Two units of DAP at

Haldia plant have been shut with effect from April 30, 2013 due to disruption in
supplies of phos acid. The operations at these two units are likely to resume in midJune, this year, it added.
Tata Chemicals Ltd Receives Approval For Scheme Of Amalgamation Of
Homefield International Pvt. Ltd
Feb 13, 2013
Tata Chemicals Ltd announced that the Board of Directors of the Company at its
meeting held on February 08, 2013 approved the Scheme of Amalgamation (the
Scheme) of Homefield International Pvt. Ltd (HIPL), (Mauritius) with the Company.
HIPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company with its registered office in
Mauritius. The Appointed Date of the Scheme is April 01, 2013. Upon the Scheme
coming into effect and in terms of the Scheme of amalgamation, all assets and
liabilities of HIPL shall will be transferred to and vested in the Company and all
shares of HIPL stand cancelled. No shares of the Company will be issued and
allotted in lieu or exchange of the Equity Shares of HIPL.
Tata Chemicals Ltd, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited To Set Up
Fertilizer Factory In Tripura-The Economic Times

The Economic Times reported that the Tripura government in a joint venture with Oil
& Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and Tata Chemicals would set up a
INR5,000 crore fertilizer manufacturing unit in north Tripura district by using the
natural gas available in the state. The Company would sell equities of INR2,000
crore in the market.

Market Share
In FY12, Tata Chemicals Limited, United Phosphorus Limited, Gujarat
Fluorochemicals Limited and Pidilite Industries Limited were the four leading players
in the industry, based on market capitalization. Tata Chemicals continued to lead
the industry by recording operating revenues of around INR 138 billion, a YOY
growth of 25 percent.
Soda ash, sodium bicarbonate and sodium tripoly phosphate (STPP) account for
about 48% of the companys total consolidated global revenues. Of this, soda ash is
its biggest component meeting 55% of Indias chlor-alkali needs. This versatile
chemical is used in the production of detergents, glass, chemicals, sodium silicate,
pulp and paper and finds extensive use in water treatment.
Tata Chemicals has 58 per cent market share in the packaged salt market with
production of over 700,000 tonnes of salt every year.
The outlook for the Indian chemical industry is stable. It is backed by strong
domestic demand and government support for agriculture and food processing

industries. The major challenges it faces going forward are rising crude oil prices,
legal barriers on Indian products by foreign regulatory authorities and meeting

In addition to the traditional Sales Channel, TCL also operates Retail Outlets under
the brand of Tata Kisan Sansar (TKS). TCL has a Joint Venture with IMACID, Morocco
for manufacturing of Phosphoric Acid with 33% stake. With the acquisition of
Metahelix Life Sciences by Rallis India, a subsidiary of the Company, TCL moved a
step ahead to become an integrated Agri solution provider.
Tata Chemicals has a formidable procurement/supply chain in the rural areas. The
Tata Salt and i-Shakti Salt and a cooking soda brand named Samunder, and has
set up a strong distribution network comprising over 600 Tata Kisan Sansar outlets

Tata Chemicals has outsourced its complete Information technology (IT)


requirements under a 10-year arrangement to Tata Consultancy Services ( in
2001)
Mr Prasad Menon, the then MD, Tata Chemicals said: "We want to IT-enable all
processes. We expect a Rs 19-20 crore outgo in the next three years and
expect savings to the same extent."

Although TCL started its life as a chemicals company, it has been able to

what it terms the FEW areas of focus food and fuel, energy and environment and

turnover in 2011-12, around 18 per cent. We would like to build this portfolio to at
least 50 per cent of our turnover in the next five years, if aggressively pursued or it
