Row 3:
Chain 3 (as a replacement for the first DC), ** Chain 1, 1 DC into the first DC of the previous row DC stitch.
** Repeat 19 times for 19 chain 1 and 19 DC. The row ends with the last double crochet in the chain 3 stitch

Row 4:
Chain 3 (as a replacement for the first DC), Chain 10, 1 single crochet in the 2nd ch

Row 7:
Chain 3 (as a replacement for the first DC), * chain 1, 1 DC (in the DC of the previous row), repeat from *
each DC of the previous round 1DC + chain 1, skip the chain 5 arch, continue with 1 DC + chain 1 in each
of the previous round DC arches, skip chain 5 arch, then 1 DC + chain 1 in the previous round ensuring the
last DC is in the chain 3 stitch of the previous row. Turn.
Row 8:
Chain 3 (as a replacement for the first DC), chain 10, skip 1 chain of the previous
round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1
chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1
SC, chain 10, skip 2 chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of
the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1 SC,
chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 10, 1 SC, skip 1 chain of
the previous round, chain 10, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5,

round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous row, 1 SC, chain 10, skip 2
chains of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain
of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 5, skip 1 chain of the previous round, 1 SC, chain 10, 1 DC in the chain 3
stitch of the previous row. Count carefully as it is easy to miscount and SC in the wrong stitch. Turn.
Row 9 repeat row 5 (you start increasing so keep to pattern with chains and DC in the 10-chain loops)
Row 10 repeat row 6
Row 11 repeat row 7
Row 12 repeat row 8 (increasing the chains keeping with the pattern as required)
Repeat rows 5 to 8 until the shawl is the desired length, keeping to the pattern, increasing scallops and
chains as needed until desired width and length is reached.
Border (if desired):
(sc, ch, dc, ch, tc, ch3 picot, ch, dc, ch, sc) work a stitch into each stitch or chain space in the scallop edge.
The chains make up for the difference in the height of the stitches so dont skip a stitch when you make one.
4 of these pointed sets per scallop.
At bottom (where there are two scallops together) do 2 pointed sets, then (ch5, skip one ch space and sc in
next) 5 times turn, SS in ch5 space, (ch 5, sc in next ch 5 space) 4 times, turn, SS in ch 5 space, ch3, DC2
in same ch5 space, ch3, tc in top of last dc, ch3 picot, ch3, dc2 in next ch5 space, dc2, ch3, tc in top of dc,
join with ss into base of picot in previous set, ch3, dc2 back into ch5 space, ch2 in next ch5 space, ss in
same space, ss in next space, ss in sc between scallops, begin pointed set again to end.
