Guided since our founding in 1912 by the missionary vision of the Paulists, committed to the mission of
Jesus, and dedicated to be welcoming to all, we, the community of St. Philip Neri, strive to reach out, to
reconcile and to promote unity for all Gods creations through worship, education, and service toward the
common good.

A Word from Servant of God Isaac Hecker,
Found of the Paulist Fathers
These Institutions will place prominently before the eyes
of their members their special aim: The renewal of the
light of faith, the spiritual life of the faithful. They will be
the first to practice what they teach to others, by the
increased attention and fidelity of their members to, and
their reliance for strength on, the inspirations and
guidance of the Holy Spirit. [ On the Mission of New
Religious Communities, 1876]
If you have asked Father Hecker to pray for you or another
person who is ill, and you believe something miraculous has
happened, please phone Fr. Paul Robichaud, CSP, at 202-2692519 and tell him your story.

Pastoral Corner
Greetings!
Each year, the Pope selects a particular theme for the church to think about, pray about, become more aware
of, and talk about as a concentrated effort for growth in our parish communities. This Jubilee Year of Mercy (50th
anniversary of the closing of Vatican ll) begins December 8th. Following are some of the themes Pope Francis asks
us to reflect on this year:
*Jesus is the face of the Fathers mercy
Jesus of Nazareth is the face of the Fathers mercyhe reveals the mercy of God by his words, actions, and
person. We follow Jesus example when we open ourselves to the Fathers mercy by looking sincerely into the eyes
of our brothers and sisters, including those who are denied their dignity.
Personal reflection: How have you experienced the Fathers mercy in your own life? How might Jesus be
calling you to look sincerely into the eyes of those who are denied their dignity?
*Mercy is the beating heart of the Gospel
It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her message that she herself live and testify to
mercy. Mercy is the beating heart of the Gospel. To live mercy, we must rediscover both the spiritual works of mercy
and the corporal works of mercy.
Personal reflection: Which spiritual works/corporal works of mercy are you especially called to practice?
*Mercy demands justice
True mercy, the mercy God gives to us and teaches us, demands justice, it demands that the poor find the way to
be poor no longerIt asks us--- the Churchall of us, to ensure that no one ever again stand in need of a soupkitchen, of makeshift-lodgings, of a service of legal assistance in order to have his legitimate rights recognized to live
and to work, to be fully a person.
Personal reflection: In your own life, and in your faith community, how do you work for justice? Do you
seek to address the root causes of problems that affect those who are vulnerable?
And of course---Mercy should begin firstin our personal relationships with each other.
Deo Gratias,

Barbara M. Harrison

Church Cleaning, November 30-Dec. 6, Mary Schleich & Mary Kavanaugh

YEAR END GIVING

A common theme I have read in many church bulletins is that stewardship is
NOT just about giving. It is also a spiritual way of living within the church
community, part of discipleship and giving of our time, talent and treasure. We
as a parish have been very fortunate over the years with the amount of time
that has been put into fundraisers, childrens liturgy, cleaning the church and
numerous other activities. This is very much appreciated. As we will have
celebrated Thanksgiving with our families and friends, we all have blessings in
our lives. We can share our blessings with our parish community and one
example of this is to provide a year-end gift to the parish. There are many
ways to accomplish this. The Archdioceses Stewardship and Development
office is very helpful in assisting with year-end and Estate/Planned Giving.
Please consider a year-end gift at this time, no matter the amount, as every
gift helps St. Philip Neri parish. With the year- end closely approaching, it is
always beneficial to review your expenditures for tax purposes as there are
ways to give and you can benefit from the gift, a win-win for both the donor
and the parish. For more information, you can speak with Fr. Charlie or
contact Jeanne at the office, 503-231-4955, ext. 103. Thank you for your
consideration and for all that you do for the parish. As each one has received

a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of Gods varied grace.
(1 Peter 4:10)
