TheNarratorassignstheconditiondependingonthenatureoftheattack.Forexample,ablowtotheface
mayresultina[DislocatedJaw]whichwillaffectactionssuchastalkingandeating.Asprayofacidmay
cause[ChemicalBurns]whichwillirritatethecharactersskin.Astronginsultwillmakethecharacter
[Enraged],whichwillimpairhisorherjudgment.ConditionscanalsobeplaceduponacharacterbytheGM
whenthesituationcallsforit,evenoutsideofcombat.Theseconditionsalsocountasdamage,sobecareful
nottoletthemlinger.

AconditionreducestheUrgencyofarollbythenumberofranksontheconditioniftheconditionisinvolved
intheroll.Forexample,acharacterwith[ChemicalBurns2](rank2)mayhurtandhampermovementwhen
heorsheisintightspaces.MovementrollsintightspaceswillhavetheirUrgencyreducedbytwo(2).

REMOVINGCONDITIONS:
Charactersinthisgameareexceptionallydurable,abletorecoverfromsituationswhichwouldtakeoutmost
otherpeople.Allacharacterneedsisalittleresttostaveofftheeffectsofacondition.Foreachrankofa
conditionthatyouwanttoremove,thecharactermustskiphisorherturn.Oncealltheranksofacondition
areremoved,thentheconditionitselfisremoved.

Sometimes,acharacterwillreceiveawoundthatwontjustdisappear(alargegash,aremovedlimb,and
thelike).Youcanstillremovethecondition,astheshockandtraumaofthesituationwontbesevere
enoughtoaffecttheUrgencyofanaction.However,thelastingwoundcanbeaddedasan

Traitscanaffect
charactersinthelongtermratherthantemporarilyinthecaseofconditions.

ADVANTAGES:
TheGMcanalsorewardcharacterswith
advantages
,whichworklikeinvertedconditions,increasing
Urgencyratherthanreducingit.TheGMalsoassignstherankfortheadvantagedependingonthesituation.
Forexample,acharactermanagestocounterattackSOhardthatheorshegetsan[AdrenalineRush+2].
RollsregardingmovementandstrengthhavetheirUrgencyincreasedbytwo(2).

Advantagescanalsobeusedtobufferagainstfurtherconditionsbeingplacedontoacharacter.Theplayer
canchoosetoassignconditionsrankstoanexistingadvantage.Thatadvantageisreducedanumberof
ranksequaltothatoftheconditionthatwasgoingtobeplacedontothecharacter.Leftoverranksfromdoing
thisareplacedasaconditiononthecharacter.

Forexample,theenemyanswersthestrongcounterattackwithashotthroughthecharactersshoulderthat
couldcausehimto[Bleed3].Theplayerdecidestolessenthedamagebyremovingthe[AdrenalineRush
+2]advantagetomakethecharacter[Bleed1].Itsonlyaglancingblow,buttheshotsnapsthecharacter
outofhisorherreverie.

DIFFICULTY:
OneofthemostimportantthingsforaNarratortodoistoadjustthedifficultyforchangingsituations.

UsingUrgency:
ThedifficultycanusuallybeadjustedthroughtheUrgencyofasituation.Thelowerthe
Urgency,themoredifficultitwillbeforacharactertosucceedinanactionduetoafewernumberofrolls
allowed.Inparticularlydire,snapjudgmenttypesituations,youcanassignanUrgencytothewholepartyto
