President’s Message
A tradition of Learning
A history of Caring
At Orange Children & Parents Together, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to
succeed and dream of a brighter tomorrow. We know that strong families lead to healthy and
productive communities, and, with a little guidance and support, every parent can become their
child’s first teacher and role model.
Now, more than ever, we need your help to restore a sense of magic and wonder in the lives of
vulnerable young children and families in our community. Working together, we can restore a
child’s hopes and dreams for a promising tomorrow!

Our Mission & Vision
Introduction
»
We believe all
children should have the
opportunity to succeed.
Since opening in 1967, Orange Children & Parents Together, Inc. (OCPT) has grown from a small
classroom in a church basement to six child development centers serving 480 children and their
families annually.
Investments in comprehensive school readiness and family programs can help make the American
dream a reality for millions of young people. Our former preschoolers are now teachers, librarians,
hard working individuals and loving parents who support their communities and are living
meaningful and productive lives.
Together, we can provide every child with the foundation needed to grow, learn, thrive and
achieve– making a positive difference for their future and ours.
Our Mission
Orange Children & Parents Together is committed to providing family‐friendly, community‐
based programs that enhance children’s growth, strengthen families and build healthy
communities.
Our Vision
We believe that all children should have the opportunity to succeed in school and in life.
By providing high‐quality school readiness and family support programs to the most
vulnerable children in our community, we are ensuring that all children begin school healthy
and ready to learn.
Children who attend high‐quality early education programs are:
• Better behaved in class
• Less likely to need special education or be held back a grade
• More likely to graduate from high school and attend college
• Less likely to be involved in crime
• More likely to earn a higher income as adults

Program Summary
A tradition of learning
» Play is often talked about as if it were relief from serious
learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really
the work of childhood.
Fred Rogers
Founded in 1967 as one of the first
Head Start preschool programs in
Orange County, Orange Children &
Parents Together has established a
long tradition of learning. We have
made a lasting impact on tens of
thousands of children and their
families through the following
programs:
School Readiness
We begin preparing children for kindergarten the day they begin in our high quality preschool
classrooms. Teaching staff use Creative Curriculum which focuses on building children’s skills
especially in the areas of cognitive development, language and literacy, social‐emotional
development, and physical development. Throughout the year, our teachers hold home visits
and conferences with parents to discuss how their child’s skills are progressing.
We work closely with Orange Unified School District’s School Readiness Program to coordinate
curriculum and promote Kindergarten readiness. Four of our preschools are located in
elementary schools, which facilitates a smooth transition to Kindergarten. All our children visit
Kindergarten classrooms each spring as part of our School Readiness Program.
Health & Nutrition
In October 2008, we launched a CavityFree
Campaign that encouraged all 480 children
to visit their dentist and follow up on dental
treatment. Within six‐months, all our
children were free of cavities or were in
treatment.
All 480 children received health screenings
for early intervention, and participate in a
daily health program that included dental
care and health checks.

As a continuation of the annual health
screenings, OCPT adopted the Healthy
Beginnings Program into our health
and nutrition services. This program
focuses on growing healthy through
physical activity and nutrition as a way
of preventing childhood obesity.
Family Support
We strengthened families by
supporting and empowering parents as
primary educators and nurturers of
their children. We provided
comprehensive family support services
through the Tustin Family Resource
Center, funded by a grant from the
County of Orange Social Services
Agency.
Literacy Programs
At OCPT, we believe that strong reading skills set the foundation for all future learning. In our
classrooms, every learning activity encompasses a component of literacy and language development.
OCPT had two literacy and language development programs that carry classroom learning into the
home:
• RaisingaReader encouraged
parents to read with their child
at home. Each child has the
opportunity to take a bright red
bag containing age‐appropriate
books home so that parents
could read with their children
every day for one week.
• Reading is Fundamental (RIF)
promoted early literacy and
language development by
celebrating the joy of reading.
The RIF program promotes
reading in the classroom and at
home, and each child received a
»
new book to keep and enjoy.
We believe that strong reading skills
set the foundation for all future learning.

Program Quality
All six of our child development centers are fully accredited by the National Association for the
Education of Young Children. On April 23, 2009, OCPT received the Commitment to Excellence in Child
Care Award from the Orange County Child Care and Development Planning Council and Certificate of
Congressional Recognition from Congressman Ed Royce and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.
Parent Involvement Activities
Our comprehensive child and family development programs are designed to respect and honor
parents and families as the primary educators of their children. Our goal is to strengthen families by
providing thoughtful guidance and helpful resources in a safe environment where children and
families can come together to learn, grow, and connect. Our bilingual/bicultural staff is uniquely
qualified to support parents in their efforts to actively be involved in their child’s education. We
strongly encouraged parents to volunteer in the classroom, to participate in parent site meetings, on
the Policy Committee and on the Board of Directors. We know that by working together, we can
empower families and ensure that each child leaves healthy and ready to learn upon entering
kindergarten.
