About us
Mechanical engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the need to
design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices. The role of a
mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. In order to accomplish
this, a broad range of skills are needed. The mechanical engineer needs to acquire particular
skills and knowledge.
The Department is offering four year Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering
from the academic year 2008 2009 with a present student intake of 240 and Master Degree
Programme in

Product Design and Development with a present student intake of 18. It came

into existence in the year 2008 as a supporting Department to cater to the needs of the students of
other disciplines.
Mechanical Engineering is the core branch of Engineering and Technology, which plays
an important role in the industrial growth of the nation. The department has well equipped
laboratories. Besides high quality teaching, the practical knowledge of students is enhanced
through Expert Lectures by eminent persons from Industry, Industrial visits, etc. Department has
a team of dedicated faculty members, who strive hard to give their 100%. The department adopts
flexible and innovative learning opportunities for students enabling them to enhance theoretical
and professional skills.
A group of extremely dynamic and active faculty and well experienced support staff, give the
department a breadth of research focus and wide range of technical expertise. All Our full time
experienced faculty members have a passion for teaching and recognized commitment to
research and development. We are continually striving to improve the quality of our programs by
finding new ways of structuring our curriculum and exploring new delivery methods.
We provide our students opportunities to engage in experiments, design work, project
work, industrial training, seminars, and team work to enhance the learning process that is so vital
for a holistic engineering education. They develop skills of inquiring and exploring new ideas on
their own. In essence, they are well prepared for the life-long learning that is vital for an
enriching career in engineering. Our students develop an ability to think, are able to innovate,
and acquire a strong foundation in technical knowledge.

To develop high quality technical education with a sound footing on basic Engineering
principles, Technical and managerial skills, innovative research capabilities, and exemplary
professional conduct to foster a close contact with the Industry blended with professional skills
and highest ethical values to lead and to use the technology for the progress of mankind,
adapting themselves to the changing technological environment with the inner strength.
Vision
The department is established, with the sole aim of carving technical graduates with right
blend of academic inputs like theoretical knowledge, practical orientation, and creating a
conducive environment to be an innovative leader and to meet the technological challenges and
to excel in the global industry. To emerge as a Centre for Excellence in technical education and
to fulfil Nehrus vision of providing scientists and technologists of highest caliber who would
engage in Research, Design and Technological Innovations and continue to play one of the
foremost role in the development of our nation.
Quality and Excellence
The college has made provisions to ensure quality both in its teaching, research and in the
administration. The college has invited many eminent scholars to deliver special lectures to the
students & staff. Teachers are regularly deputed to Seminars & Conferences to present paper in
National or International Conferences.

RIPPLES STUDENT ASSOCIATION

In the beginning of every academic year, the Mechanical Engineering Students

Association (MESA) is formally inaugurated by eminent personalities, preferably from the realm
of Industries named as RIPPLES. It carries out various technical activities throughout the
academic year which includes seminars, expert lectures, etc., in current trends and industry
related programmes on alternate Saturdays.
Besides these, mock interviews, quizzes, career guidance programs are also conducted for
final year students. It also organizes national level technical symposium every year for the
students, which brings students from different other colleges and of various facets under one roof
to discuss the recent trends in various fields.
MESA is managed by an experienced Staff advisor and three student representatives.
Membership on Professional Bodies
ISME
Mechanical Engineering Department has set up a students chapter of Indian Society of
Manufacturing Engineers (ISME) in the year 2015. All students of Mechanical Engineering are
student members of this chapter.
The main objective of ISME is to advance knowledge in the field of Manufacturing
Engineering and Management and provide means and methods for applying such knowledge in
practice and in education throughout the country. It provides channel of communication for allied
societies and institutions in the country and abroad.
ISME has a countrywide network of members comprising of industries, institutions and
individuals under various categories. It has to its credit an eventful professional standing of
around three decades. In the past, ISME has organized a number of National Seminars, Training
Programmes, Workshops, Industrial Visits and Technical Film Shows. Technical lecture meeting
on topics of interest are being held on a regular basis. ISME also brings out its own in house
publications with a view to disseminate technical information and maintain communication and
rapport with its members.

ISTE

ISTE CHAPTER was established in The Kavery Engineering College in 2013 Chapter
started with 14 staff members and is continued till date with all the staff members as registered
members. The purpose of this chapter is to inform its members regarding upcoming events of
ISTE Chapter TKEC, as well as some other events happening around the country at various other
institutes.
Whenever a new staff joins TKEC he/she is encouraged to become a member and take advantage
of the various benefits of the Chapter. Every year ISTE Chapter TKEC conducts various events
such as expert lectures, workshops, seminars, Industrial visits, etc. to assist staff and student for
updating their technical knowledge.
