PRAYERS AT MASS
I CONFESS to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and
sisters that I have sinned through my own fault (strike
breast) in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done
and in what I have failed to do. And I ask the blessed Mary
ever Virgin, all the angels and saints and you my brothers
and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
GLORY TO GOD in the highest and peace to his people on
earth. Lord God, heavenly King, Almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your
glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father. Lord God,
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have
mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you
alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus
Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
WE BELIEVE in one God, the Father, the Almighty maker
of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen. We
believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one
Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation He came down from
heaven, by the power of the Holy Spirit He became incarnate
from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He
was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and
was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance
with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at
the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to
judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no
end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the
Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has
spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic
and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We
look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world
to come. Amen.
MAY THE LORD ACCEPT the sacrifice at your hands, to
the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good
of all His Church.
P: The Lord be with you.
A: And also with you.
P: Lift up your hearts.
A: We lift them up to the Lord.
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
A: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, Lord, God of power and might.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest!
1.

Christ has died, Christ is risen,

Christ will come again!

2.
3.

4.

Dying you destroyed our death,

Rising you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory!
When we eat this bread and drink this cup
We proclaim your death, Lord Jesus,
Until you come in glory!
Lord, by your cross and resurrection,
You have set us free.
You are the Saviour of the world.

OUR FATHER who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us. And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
LAMB OF GOD, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
grant us peace.
LORD, I AM NOT WORTHY to receive you, but only say
the word and I shall be healed.
PRAYERS AT BENEDICTION
O God in this wonderful Sacrament you have left us the
memorial of your Passion, grant that we may so reverence
the Sacred Mysteries of your Body and Blood, that the taste
of the fruit of your redemption may ever be within us. Who
lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

CONSECRATION OF THE HUMAN RACE TO THE

SACRED HEART OF JESUS
Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down
upon us humbly prostrate before Your altar. We are Yours
and Yours we wish to be, but to be more surely united with
You, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself
today to Your Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never
known You, many too, despising your precepts have
rejected You. Have mercy on them all, most merciful
Jesus, and draw them to Your Sacred Heart.
Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never
forsaken You, but also of the prodigal children who have
abandoned You. Grant that they may quickly return to their
Fathers house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.
Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions,
or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the
harbour of truth and unity of faith so that there may be but
one flock and one shepherd.
Grant, O Lord, to Your Church assurance of freedom and
immunity of harm. Give peace and order to all nations, and
make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry:
Praise the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation, to it be
glory and honour for ever and ever. AMEN.
CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART
OF MARY
Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, Queen of Heaven and
Earth, Refuge of Sinners, we consecrate ourselves and our
Parish of St. Marys in a very special way to your
Immaculate Heart.
With this act of consecration, we promise to live with You
and through You fulfill our Baptismal Vows. We promise
to convert ourselves according to the teaching of the Holy
Gospel and to dedicate ourselves to the Holy Will of GOD;
We place into your hands, O sweet and most merciful
Mother, our whole life and our Christian vocation. Under
your protection we wish to be apostles and be united in
prayer. We promise to love the Holy Father on whom we
beg your special protection.
We promise to the best of our abilities, to lead all those we
come in contact with, towards this great devotion to You.
We raise our hearts to you our merciful and powerful
Mother, O Clement, O Loving, O sweet Loving Mother.

Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary, etc.
And the Word was made flesh:
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, etc.
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our
hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son
was made known by the message of an angel, may by His
Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His
Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
May the divine assistance remain always with us. Amen.
And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
ACT OF CONTRITION
O My God, I am sorry and beg pardon for all my sins, and
detest them above all things, because they deserve Thy
dreadful punishment, because they have crucified my
loving Saviour Jesus Christ, and most of all, because they
offend Thine infinite goodness. And I firmly resolve, by

the help of Thy grace, never to offend Thee again, and

carefully to avoid the occasions of sin.
THE MEMORARE
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it
known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored
thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence I fly unto thee. O Virgin of
virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer
me. Amen.
THE HOLY ROSARY
In the name of the Father, etc.
V. O God, come to my assistance.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, etc.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! hail our life, our
sweetness, and our hope! To Thee do we cry, poor
banished children of Eve; to Thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then,

most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;

and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of
Thy womb, Jesus: O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin
Mary.

Lamb of God who takest away the sins of the world
have mercy on us.
We fly to your patronage, O Holy Mother of God: despise
not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always
from all dangers, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray

Defend, we beseech You, O Lord by the intercession of the

Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, this your family from all
adversity: and being prostrate before You with our hearts,
mercifully protect us from the snares of the enemy.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

in the occasion of falling, I should cease to call thee and so

should lose my soul. This then is the grace I seek from
thee, and I beg of thee, as far as I know how and can, to
obtain it for me, namely, the assaults of hell, always to have
recourse to thee and to say to thee: O Mary help. Mother
of Perpetual Succour, suffer me not to lose my God. Amen

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit. Amen.
ANIMA CHRISTI
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me.
And bid me come to Thee,
That with Thy Saints I may praise Thee
For all eternity. Amen.
PRAYER TO THE INFANT JESUS
Dear Infant Jesus in the Manger, by virtue of Your Holy
Name, I beg of You to grant my petition.
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son
of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight
in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. For the merits of that hour,
vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my
desires, through the merits of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ,
and of His Blessed Mother Amen. Infant Jesus, I trust in
You!

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and
enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your
Spirit and they shall be created.
And Thou shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray, O God, who has taught the hearts of the
faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift
of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever
rejoice in His consolation.
NOVENA PRAYER TO MOTHER OF PERPETUAL
HELP
O Mother of Perpetual Succour, behold me a miserable
sinner at thy feet. I have recourse to thee and put my trust
in thee, O Mother of Mercy, have pity upon me. I hear
thee call by all, the refuge and hope of sinners; be then my
refuge and my hope, Succour me for the love Jesus Christ;
stretch forth thy hand to me, a poor sinner, who recommend
and dedicate myself to thee as thy perpetual servant. I
bless and thank God for having in His Mercy given me this
confidence in Thee, the pledge, as I believe of my eternal
salvation. Alas, too often in past times have I miserably
fallen because I had not recourse to thee. I know that thou
wilt help me, if I recommend myself to thee, but I fear lest

NOVENA PRAYER TO ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA

Remember, O Saint of miracles, that you have never failed
to help and to console anyone who has ever sought you in
his need. I, too come to thee who are so rich in graces and
who are the favoured friend of the infant Jesus, confident
that I do not pray in vain.
Eloquent preacher of the infinite mercy of God, refuse not
my prayer, but take my petition before the throne of God,
so that I may have help and strength in my present trial, and
necessity.
Listen, together with my voice, to those countless numbers
who trust in you and appeal to you in their need. Amen

A NEW COMMANDMENT

A new commandment I give unto you

That you love one another as I have loved you (2)

1.

All over the world the Spirit is moving

All over the world, as the prophet said it would be
All over the world, theres a mighty revelation
Of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea

2.

Deep down in my heart...

3.

All over the land...

[In the verses the first beat of each bar is given in italics]
1.

2.

By this shall all know that you are my disciples

If you have love one for another.

You are my friends if you do what I command you. 2

Without my help you can do no-thing.

3. I am the true Vine, my Father is the Gard'ner 2

Abide in me: I will be with you.

ALL OVER THE WORLD

6
1.

ALL THAT I AM
All that I am, all that I do,
All that Ill ever have, I offer now to you
Take and sanctify these gifts for your honour, Lord
Knowing that I love and serve you is enough reward
All that I am, all that I do,
all that Ill ever have I offer now to you.

ABBA FATHER
Abba, Father! (3), we love you.

1.

You sent your Son to save the world, (3) We thank you.

Serve you the Lord, hearts filled with gladness

Come into His presence singing for joy!

2.

Know that the Lord is our Creator,

Yes, He is our Father, we are His own.

Swift to its close ebbs out lifes little day;

Earths joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

3.

We are the sheep of His green pasture,

For we are His people, He is our God.

4.

Enter His gates bringing thanksgiving

O enter His courts while singing His praise

2.

3.

Hold Thou Thy Cross before my closing eyes

Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies
Heavns morning breaks and earths vain shadows
flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

ALL THE EARTH PROCLAIM THE LORD

All the earth proclaim the Lord, sing your praise to
God (2)

Mother of Christ, Mother of mine,
present them to my Lord.

Colours of day dawn into the mind
The sun has come up, the night is behind
Go down in the city, into the street
And lets give the message to the people we meet
So light up the fire and let the flame burn
Open the door, let Jesus return
Take seeds of His Spirit, let the fruit grow
Tell the people of Jesus, let His love show.

2.

Go through the park, on into the town

The sun still shines on, it never goes down
The light of the world is risen again;
The people of darkness are needing a friend

3.

Open your eyes, look into the sky

The darkness has come, the sun came to die

The evening draws on, the sun disappears

But Jesus is living and His Spirit is near

and rejoice when youve found what was lost

EVRY MORNING
Evry morning when the day's begun,
I thank the Lord for all He has done
Ev'ry evening I kneel to say:
Thank you, Lord for another day.

1. Thank you for the sun, my Lord, thank you for the
moon,
Thank you for the days and nights,
mornings and afternoons
2.

Thanks for my companions, Lord,

who cheer me when I'm low,
Thanks for those who criticize,
who tell me where I'm slow

3.

36

Thank you for the work we have,

the road we journey thru'
Even for the pain, my Lord, we all must suffer too.

39

GLORY AND PRAISE TO OUR GOD

Glory and praise to our God
Who alone gives light to our days
Many are the blessings He bears
To those who trust in His ways.

FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS

Faith in God can move the mountains
Trust in Him can calm the sea
Hes my fortress, Hes my stronghold
Hes the rock who rescues me

1.

We the daughters and sons of Him

Who built the valleys and plains,
Praise the wonders our God has done
In every heart that sings.

1.

Lord, you are my refuge, never let me be ashamed

In your justice rescue me, turn to me and hear my
prayer

2.

In His wisdom He strengthens us

Like gold that's tested in fire.
Though the power of sin prevails,
Our God is there to save.

2.

You are my salvation, from oppression set me free

Ever since my childhood, you have been my only hope

3.

Every moment of every day

Our God is waiting to save,
Always ready to seek the lost
To answer those who pray.

3.

Glory to God, glory to God, glory to the Spirit.....

Father, forgive them, they know not what they do (2)

1.

They see me lying in the street and never lend a hand

the night goes by while theyre asleep

and I cry each night for their blinded eyes
that never, never seem to see

41
2.

3.

38
1.

They call me friend when theyre in need

I know its all a sham
for when my sufferings make me weep
they simply wash their hands
and Im left alone in despair to mourn
theyll never, never understand
We crucified your Son in shame,
His message we ignored
Though time has passed were still the same
indifferent as before
and He dies each day in our hearts of clay
O Father, teach us how to love

GO IN PEACE
Go in peace to be Christs Body
Go in peace, proclaim His Word
You have shared His dying and His rising
Go in peace, Christ lives in you

1.

But our treasure is in earthen vessels

proving we are weak and need Gods strength
Carrying in our flesh the death of Jesus
We must show His life at work in us.

2.

Though our outer nature may seem wasted

daily is the inner man renewed
For the love of Jesus Christ controls us,
Since we know that one man died for all.

GIVE ME OIL
Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning
Give me oil in my lamp, I pray
Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning
Keep me burning till the end of day

42
1.

Go the mass is ended, children of the Lord

Take His Word to others
As youve heard it spoken to you
Go the Mass is ended, go and tell the world
The Lord is good, the Lord is kind
And He loves everyone.

2.

Go the Mass is ended, take His love to all

Gladden those who meet you
Fill their hearts with hope and courage
Go the Mass is ended, fill the world with love,

(Come on and) sing hosanna(3) to the king (of kings)

2.

Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising

3.

Give me love in my work, keep me serving

4.

Give me peace in my heart, keep me happy

GO THE MASS IS ENDED

And give to all what you received

The peace and joy of Christ.

1.

GOD IS GOOD TO ME
God is good to me, Oh! what love I see
Jesus as a Lamb was slain
He delivered me, cleansed and set me free
Lord of all He rose again.
Now I live, yet not I: Jesus is alive in me
Sending the Spirits flame into my heart again
God has poured His love on me.

Jesus Christ to save the world
Life abundantly through His death He brought,
I believe that God is love.

GOD'S SPIRIT IS IN MY HEART

Gods Spirit is in my heart
He has called me and set me apart,
This is what I have to do, what I have to do.
He sent me to give the good news to the poor
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more
Tell blind people that they can see
And set the downtrodden free, and go tell evryone
The news that the kingdom of God has come
And go tell evryone
The news that Gods kingdom has come.

GOD OF MERCY
God of mercy and compassion, Look with pity upon
me;
Father, let me call Thee Father,
Tis Thy child returns to Thee.

2.

Jesus Lord, I ask for mercy, let me not implore in vain

All my sins I now detest them, never will I sin again

47 GREAT INDEED ARE YOUR WORKS O LORD

See our Saviour, bleeding, dying, on the cross of

Calvary;
to that cross my sins have nailed Him,
yet He bleeds and dies for me.
By my sins I have deserved death and endless misery;
Hell with all its pains and torments, and for all eternity.
GOD STILL LOVES THE WORLD
Evry tiny star that twinkles in the night sky,
Evry drop of morning dew
Evry spark of fire blazing in the furnace,
Evry captivating view
Evry rainbow in the sky, Evry pretty butterfly
Tells the fascinating news to those who dare to hope
And the message is:

Ch. God still loves the world! God still, still loves the
world
So throw your life into His hands;
Day by day discern His plan;
God is passionately busy loving you and me!
2.

Evry little new born child

Evry voice in favour of a needy neighbour
Evry radiating smile
Evry hand that offers love, Evry surging flow of
blood
Tells the fascinating news to those who dare to hope
And the message is:

Evry ocean wave that breaks upon the seashore,

Evry stalk of golden wheat,
Evry silver stream that gushes down the mountain,
Evry drop of honey sweet,
Evry eagle flying high, Evry worm that wriggles by
Tells the fascinating news to those who dare to hope
And the message is:
Evry man and woman pledged in love forever

Just as the Father sent me, so Im sending you out to be

my witnesses throughout the world,
the whole of the world

Great indeed are your works, O Lord 2

now and ever more!

1.

The universe, night and day, tells of all your wonders,

You are our light and our life, we shall praise you
always
2. You are the path which we tread, you will lead us
onward
From ev'ry corner of earth all the nations gather.
3.

48

You lead us all by the hand to your heav'nly kingdom

Then at the end of all time you will come in glory.
GREAT THINGS HAPPEN
Great things happen when God mixes with us (2)
Great and beautiful, wonderful things,
Great things happen when God mixes with us.

1.

Some find life, some find peace,

Some people also find joy,
Some see things as they never could before
And some people find that they can now begin to trust.

2.

Some find health, some find hope,

Some people also find joy,
Some see themselves as they never could before,
And some people find that they can now begin to live.

3.

Some find peace, some are disturbed,

Some people also find joy,
Some see their lives as they never could before

And some people find that they must now begin to

change.

HAIL QUEEN OF HEAVEN

Hail Queen of heavn, the ocean star
guide of the wandrer here below
thrown on lifes surge, we claim Thy care
save us from peril and from woe
Mother of Christ, star of the sea
pray for the wanderer, pray for me (2)
O gentle, chaste and spotless maid
we sinners make our prayers through Thee;
remind Thy Son that He has paid,
the price of our iniquity.
Virgin most pure, star of the sea,
pray for the sinner, pray for me (2)
And while to Him who reigns above,
in Godhead One, in Persons Three,
the source of life, of grace, of love,
homage we pay on bended knee
do Thou, bright Queen, star of the sea,
pray for Thy children, pray for me (2).

52

Happiness is where you are and what you want to be,

If you look you're sure to find the rainbow of your
dreams
Tomorrow's fuller than a thousand yesterdays
With the vision of a new day in your heart.

HAVE THINE OWN WAY LORD

Have thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way,
Thou art the potter, I am the clay
Mould me and make me after Thy will
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

2.

Have thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way,

Search me and try me, Master, today
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now
As in Thy presence humbly I bow
Have thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way,
Hold over my being, absolute sway;
Fill with Thy Spirit, till I shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.

HE IS LORD

1.

Have this mind among yourselves, the mind of Jesus

Even though He was eternally God's Son,
He emptied himself to be the servant of all,
He was humble and obedient unto death.

2.

He is seated at the right hand of the Father,

God put ev'rything He made under His feet.
He has given to Him the highest name that can be
named
And in all believing hearts He reigns supreme.

3.

May your inward eye, your vision be illumined,

May you know what is the hope that waits for you;
For the glory God offers you as your inheritance
Was displayed when He raised Jesus from the dead.

53
1.

If the clouds should darken you may

turn your hopes on high
Sorrow isn't meant to shake you from your way of life,
Just keep on looking for the answer to it all
With the vision of a new day in your heart.
Happy those who make the Word of God their very
own,
Truth and sincerity will be their only home.
Look to the stars and find a reason to believe
With the vision of a new day in your heart.

Have thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way,

Wounded and weary, help me, I pray
Power all power, surely is Thine
Touch me and heal me, Saviour Divine.

He is Lord, (2) He is risen from the dead and He is

Lord!
Ev'ry knee shall bow, ev'ry tongue confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord.

HAPPINESS IS WHERE YOU ARE

1.

3.

4.

HE IS MY EVERYTHING
He is my everything, He is my all
He is my everything both great and small
He gave His life for me, made everything new
He is my everything, now, how about you?
Like honey in the rock, sweet honey in the rock
For He tastes like honey in the rock
Oh taste and see, that the Lord is good
For He tastes like honey in the rock.

2.

54

Some folks may ask me, some folks may say

Who is this Jesus, you talk about everyday
He is my Saviour, and He sets me free
Listen, I'll tell you now, what He means to me.
HEAR MY CRY
Hear my cry, O Lord, my God, listen to my prayer;
From the earth's end I call to you, when my heart is
faint.

1.

Set me high on a rock, you are my refuge, O Lord.

2.

Let me stay in your tent, safe in the shade of your wings

3.

I will echo your praise, pay my vows day after day.

55

HERE I AM LORD

1.

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry.

All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save!
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright,
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

58
1.

Here I am, Lord! Is it I, Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me,
I will hold your people in my heart.
2.

3.

56

I, the Lord of mist and rain, I have borne my people's

pain.
I have wept for love of them, they turn away!
I will break their hearts of stone
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?
I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and
lame
I will set a feast for them, my hand will save
Finest bread will I provide, till their hearts are satisfied
I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?

Holy Virgin, by God's decree you were called eternally,

That He could give His Son to our race.
Mary, we praise you, hail, full of grace!
Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! (2)

2.

By your faith and loving accord

As the handmaid of the Lord,
You undertook God's plan to embrace,
Mary, we thank you, hail, full of grace!

3.

Refuge for your children so weak,

sure protection all can seek
Problems of life you help us to face
Mary, we trust you, hail full of grace.

4.

To our needy world of today

love and beauty you portray
showing the path to Christ we must trace
Mary, our Mother, hail full of grace.

59

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD

HIS NAME IS HIGHER

His name is higher than any other 2
His name is Jesus, His name is Lord

1.

His name is Wonderful, His name is Counselor,

His name is Prince of Peace, the Mighty God.

2.

He is the plan of God, He is the Mystery.

In Him we live and move and have our being.

3.

O you of little faith, why do you doubt Him?

His yoke is easy, His burden light.

4.

In Him is victory, in Him redemption,

In Him salvation, He sets us free.

57

HOLY GOD WE PRAISE THY NAME

1.

Holy God we praise Thy name

God of all we bow before Thee
All on earth Thy rule acclaim,
All in heaven above adore Thee.
Infinite Thy vast domain, everlasting is Thy reign (2)

2.

Hark the loud celestial hymn,

Angel choirs above are raising
Cherubim and seraphim
In unceasing chorus praising.
Fill the heavens with sweet accord: 2
"Holy, holy, holy, Lord".

3.

HOLY VIRGIN BY GOD'S DECREE

Holy Father, Holy Son,

Holy Spirit, three we name Thee,
While in essence only one:
Undivided God we claim Thee
And adoring bend the knee, 2
while we own the mystery . .

How great is our God, how great is His name!

How great is our God, forever the same!
1.

He rolled back the waters of the mighty Red Sea

And He said: Ill never leave you,
put your trust in me.

2.

He sent His Son, Jesus, to set us all free

And He said Ill never leave you,
put your trust in me.

3.

He gave us His Spirit and now we can see

And He said: Ill never leave you,
put your trust in me.

60
1.

HOW GREAT THOU ART

Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
consider all the works Thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

2.

3.

And when I think that God His Son not sparing

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burdens gladly bearing
He bled and died, to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation

and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
and there proclaim, My God, how great Thou art.
61
IM WALKING ON MY WAY

1.

Im walking on my way to the Lord,

to my Lord, Lord, Lord, to my Lords house
Im walking on my way to the Lord,
to my Lord whos waiting there for me
So lets all join hands and praise our Lord
Yes, love our Lord, Lord, Lord, go to our Lords house
So lets all join hands and praise our Lord
go to our Lord whos waiting patiently

2.

3.

62
1.

Im singing on my way to Lord

to my Lord, Lord, Lord, to my Lords house
Im singing on my way to the Lord,
to my Lord whos waiting there for me
Im clapping on my way to the Lord
to my Lord, Lord, Lord, to my Lords house
Im clapping on my way to the Lord,
to my Lord whos waiting there for me
IVE GOT A RIVER OF LIFE
I've got a river of life flowing out of me,
Makes the lame to walk and the blind to see,
Opens prison doors, sets the captives free
I've got a river of life flowing out of me.
Spring up, O well, within my soul,
Spring up, O well, and make me whole.
Spring up, O well, and give to me that life abundantly.

2.

63
1.

There's a fountain flowing from the Saviour's side,

All my sins forgiven in that precious tide,
Jesus paid the ransom when for me He died,
There's a fountain flowing from the Saviour's side.

1.

ch Oh the joy of the Lord is my strength, my strength,

Oh the joy of the Lord is my help, my help
For the power of His Spirit is in my heart
And the joy of the Lord is my strength.
2.

I give my eyes to see the world

And everyone in just the way you do
I give my tongue to speak your words
To spread your name and freedom-giving truth.

65

I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS

1.

I have decided to follow Jesus, (3) [no turning back (2)]

2.

The world behind me, the cross before me...

3.

I will take nothing, no bread or money...

4.

And when I see Thee, so poor and hungry...

5.

And should my road seem too long and weary...

6.

I know that Mary will guide my footsteps...

66

I NOW NO LONGER LIVE

I now no longer live, Christ, my Lord, lives in me,
Christ for ever my joy. I will walk in His love.

1.

Christ in my mind, my life, my heart,

Christ to the world with joy I must bring.

2.

Christ on my right, my left, around,

Christ to the world with joy I must bring.

3.

Christ is my Way, my Peace, my Light,

Christ to the world with joy I must bring.

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE

I am the bread of life
He who comes to me shall not hunger
He who believes in me shall not thirst
No one can come to me unless the Father draws Him.

I give my hands to do your work

And Jesus Lord, I give them willingly
I give my feet to go your way
And every step I shall take cheerfully.

And I will raise Him up (3) on the last day!

2.

3.

The bread that I will give

Is my flesh for the life of the world;
And He who eats of this bread,
He shall live forever (2)
Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man
And drink of His blood (2)
You shall not have life within you.

4.

I am the resurrection, I am the life,

He who believes in me, even if he die,
He shall live for ever,

5.

Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ,

The Son of God who [has come into the world! (2)]

64

I GIVE MY HANDS

67

I REJOICED WHEN I HEARD

Ch. I rejoiced when I heard the people saying:

Let's go to the temple of the Lord.
And now at last our feet are standing
Within your gates, O Jerusalem.
1.

Jerusalem, O fairest city,

So strongly built as one united whole,
It is there that the tribes now gather,
All the tribes to worship the Lord

2.

For the peace of Jerusalem pray:

Prosperity to all your dwelling places.
Let there be peace everywhere within your ramparts,
Let there be safety within your towers.

3.

For love of my family and my friends,

This is my prayer: May lasting peace be yours

For the sake of the house of the Lord,
I shall plead and pray for your good.
68
1.

2.

69

I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU

I will never forget you, my people,
I have carved you on the palm of my hand
I will never forget you, I will not leave you orphaned,
I will never forget my own!

71

Does a mother forget her baby?

Or a woman, the child within her womb?
Yet even if these forget, yes even if these forget,
I will never forget my own!

1.

Show your justice in * pleading my cause,

Let me walk in the * way of your laws.

2.

Lead me on with your * power and strength

And my courage will * never be spent.

I WILL SING OF THE MERCIES

3.

Fill my heart with your * truth and your light

As I enter with * joy in your sight.

4.

Holy praises to * God will I sing,

I will trust and will * hope in my King.

5.

Glory be to the *Father and Son

And the Spirit while *ages are run.

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,

I will sing , I will sing
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
1.

With my mouth will I make known

Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness
With my mouth will I make known
Thy faithfulness to all generations.

2.

I have found David, my servant,

And with my oil anointed Him
My arm shall make Him strong
My hand shall be with Him for generations.

3.

My truth and love shall be with Him

And by my name His might exalted
He will say, "You are my Father,
My God, my rock, the fortress who saves me".

70

Ill sing a hymn to Mary, the Mother of my God,

the Virgin of all virgins, of Davids royal blood.
O teach me, holy Mary, a loving song to frame,
when wicked men blaspheme Thee,
to love and bless Thy name.

2.

O noble Tower of David of gold and ivory

the Ark of Gods own promise,
the gate of heavn to me, to live and not to love Thee,
would fill my soul with shame;
when wicked men blaspheme Thee,
Ill love and bless Thy name.

4.

The Saints are high in glory with golden crowns so

bright;
but brighter far is Mary upon her throne of light.
O that which God did give Thee, let mortal neer
disclaim;
when wicked men blaspheme Thee, Ill love and bless
Thy name.
But in the crown of Mary there lies a wondrous gem,

I'LL TURN MY STEPS TO THE ALTAR

I'll turn my steps to the altar of God,
I'll turn my steps to the gladness of my life.

72

IN BREAD WE BRING YOU LORD

1.

In bread we bring you, Lord, our bodies labour

In wine we offer you our spirits grief
We do not ask you, Lord, who is my neighbour?
but stand united now, one in belief,
Oh we have gladly heard your Word, your holy Word,
and now in answer, Lord, our gifts we bring.
Our selfish hearts make true, our failing faith renew,
Our lives belong to you, our Lord and King.

2.

The bread we offer you is blessed and broken,

and it becomes for us our spirits food
Over the cup we bring your Word is spoken;
make it your gift to us, your healing blood
Take all that daily toil, plants in our hearts poor soil
take all we start and spoil, each hopeful dream,
the chances we have missed, the graces we resist,
Lord, in Thy Eucharist, take and redeem.

I'LL SING A HYMN TO MARY

1.

3.

as Queen of all the angels which Mary shares with

them;
No sin hath eer defiled Thee so doth our faith
proclaim.
when wicked men blaspheme Thee, Ill love and bless
Thy name.

73

IN HIS TIME

1.

In His time, in His time:

He makes all things beautiful in His time,
Lord, please show me everyday
As you're teaching me your way
That you do just what you say in your time.

2.

In your time, in your time:

You make all things beautiful in your time.
Lord, my life to you I bring
With its winter and its spring.
May I fathom everything in your time.

3.

There's a time, there's a time

Both for sowing and for reaping there's a time.

Time for losing, time for gain,

Time for joy and time for pain,
Ev'ry purpose under heaven has a time.
4.

74

There are times, there are days:

Weeks and months we cannot understand God's ways.
If for years we fail to scan,
What is His eternal plan,
We'll remember that He CAN, all the time.

2.

3.

75

3.

O hope of every contrite heart,

O joy of all the meek,
to those who fall, how kind Thou art,
how good to those who seek!

4.

But what to those who find? Ah, this

nor tongue nor pen can show;
the love of Jesus, what it is
not but His lovers know.

5.

Jesu, our only joy be Thou,

as Thou our prize wilt be;
Jesu, be Thou our glory now,
and thru eternity.

INTO YOUR HANDS

Into your hands we commend our Spirit, O Lord,
Into your hands we commend our hearts.
For we must die to ourselves in loving you,
Into your hands we commend our love.

1.

nor can the memory find,

a sweeter sound than Thy blest name,
O Savior of mankind.

O God, my God, why have you gone from me,

Far from my prayers, far from my cry?
To you I call and you never answer me,
You send no comfort and I don't know why!
You've been my guide since I was very young,
You show'd the way, you brought relief;
But now I'm lonely, nobody's by my side:
Take heed, my Lord, listen to my prayer.
I will proclaim your name to all my friends,
Thou art our God and our Father too
Your praise shall sound from every voice, O Lord,
Soon every heart will worship you.

77

Jesus, meek and humble of heart,

make my heart like Yours.
1.

Come to me, you who are heavily laden

and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke and learn from me;
Im meek and humble of heart.

2.

Come to me, you who are thirsting for water

and I will give you drink.
Come and stay beneath my cross,
from my heart flow living streams.

3.

Follow me! Why do you walk in the darkness

when Im the light of life?
Come to where my Father dwells,
Im the Way, the Truth and the Life.

IT TAKES COURAGE
It takes courage to answer a call,
It takes courage to give your all.
It takes courage to risk your name,
It takes courage to be true.

1.

2.

3.

76

JESUS MEEK AND HUMBLE OF HEART

It takes courage to dare what no other would share,

To be standing alone, one whom no one will own,
To be ready to stake, to be loyal not fake,
It takes courage to be true.
It takes courage to say what you know will not pay,
To give each one a share though there'll be less to spare,
To be seeking no more than the neighbour next door,
It takes courage to be true.
It takes courage to leave what good fortune can give,
And to go to a land where the poor need a hand
To be spending one's days in less leisurely ways,
It takes courage to be true.
JESU THE VERY THOUGHT OF THEE

1.

Jesu the very thought of Thee

with sweetness fills my breast;
but sweeter far Thy face to see
and in Thy presence rest.

2.

Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame,

78
1.

JESUS, MY LORD, BEHOLD AT LENGTH

Jesus, my Lord, behold at length the time
When I resolve to turn away from crime,
Oh, pardon me Jesus, Thy mercy I implore
I will never more offend Thee No, never more

2.

Since my poor soul Thy precious Blood hath cost,

Suffer me not, forever to be lost.

3.

Kneeling in tears, behold me at Thy feet,

Like Magdalene, forgiveness I entreat.

79.
1.

JESUS, MY LORD, MY GOD, MY ALL

Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,
how can I love Thee as I ought?
And how revere this wondrous gift
so far surpassing hope or thought?
Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore;

Oh, make us love Thee more and more (2)

2.

Had I but Marys sinless heart

to love Thee with, my dearest King,
Oh, with what bursts of fervent praise
Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!

3.

Ah, see! within a creatures hand

the vast Creator deigns to be,
reposing, infant-like, as though
on Josephs arm, or Marys knee.

4.

Thy body, soul, and Godhead, all;

O mystery of love divine!
I cannot compass all I have,
for all Thou hast and art are mine.

5.

Sound, sound, His praises higher still,

and come, ye angels, to our aid;
tis God, tis God, the very God
whose power both man and angels made.

As we bring to God each other's needs.

82

Lay your hands gently upon us,

Let their touch render your peace.
Let them bring your forgiveness and healing,
Lay your hands, gently lay your hands.
You were sent to free the broken hearted,
You were sent to give sight to the blind.
You desire to heal all our illnesses
Lay your hands, gently lay your hands.
Lord, we come to you through one another,
Lord, we come to you in our need,
Lord, we come to you seeking wholeness
Lay your hands, gently lay your hands.
83

80

1.

2.

Let's sing to our mother as we would sing to our love,

Mother in heaven, yet Mother with us on earth.

Jesus, you are my salvation,

Jesus, you're my inspiration,
Jesus you're the treasure of my life.

1.

Jesus, you offer new sight to the blind

Healing the crippled, the deaf and the mute,
Cleansing the leper and banishing ills,
Raising the dead to life.

Mary, we love you, Mary we praise you:

You are the joy of the earth.
Angels revere you, saints gather near you,
Heaven rejoiced at your birth.

2.

Jesus, you nurture the hungry with bread,

Stilling the tempest and calming the sea,
Turning life's water to glittering wine,
Shedding your blood for me.

Fairest of creatures, purest of Virgins,

You are our pride and our boast;
Bringing the Saviour, conquering evil
Guiding the sinner when lost.

3.

Virgin most prudent, daughter of Zion,

Bride of the Spirit of Love;
Reigning triumphant, leading your children
Homeward to heaven above.

84

LET US BOW IN ADORATION

Jesus, my refuge, in you do I trust,

Jesus, my Saviour, in you I rejoice,
Jesus, my way and my truth and my life,
Jesus who sets me free.

4.

Jesus, the wisdom and pow'r of the Lord,

Jesus, our high priest, our Passover Lamb,
Jesus, the brightness and image of God,
Jesus, the King of Peace.

1.

Let us bow in adoration to this Sacrament so great

Here is new and perfect worship,
All the old must terminate.
Senses cannot grasp this marvel,
Faith must serve to compensate.

2.

Glory, honour, adoration: let us sing with one accord

Praised be God, Almighty Father,
Praised be Christ His Son our Lord
Praised be God the Holy Spirit,
Triune Godhead be adored.

JOY WAS IN MY HEART

Ch. Joy was in my heart when I heard the people say,

Let us go up to the temple of the Lord.
And now we are at last in the presence of the Lord
Alleluia, alleluia.
1.

2.

LETS SING TO OUR MOTHER

JESUS YOU ARE MY SALVATION

3.

81

LAY YOUR HANDS

The temple of the Lord will never be destroyed:

How beautiful and strong it stands.
It is here that all will come to praise and worship God,
Singing songs that fill the heart with joy.
May blessings come upon us who are gathered here.
Prosperity to all our homes,
May true security and peace fill ev'ry heart

85

LET US OPEN UP OURSELVES

Let us open up ourselves to one another
Without fear of being hurt or turned away.
For we need to confess our weaknesses,
To be covered by each other's love,
To be real and learn our true identity.

86

2.

3.

Change this bread into your body

and this wine into your blood;
Change our lives, make us united, Lord,
to spread the love of Christ, the Lord.

89

LORD, I'M COMING HOME

LIBERATION
The world stands in need of liberation, my Lord,
It still has to feel your power.
The blind and the deaf, the dumb and the maimed
All need to feel your healing touch
The world stands in need of liberation, my Lord,
It still has to learn to love.

1.

2.

There are those who have eyes but refuse to see

Their inhumanity to some
There are those who have ears but refuse to hear
The cries of those in agony.
There are those who have mouths but refuse to speak
Against injustice done to some.
There are those who have hands but refuse to reach
Them out in love and charity.

1.

Ch. Coming home (2) never more to roam.

Open are thine arms of love, Lord I'm coming home.
2.

I've wasted many precious years,

Now I'm coming home
I now repent with bitter tears,
Lord I'm coming home

3.

Ive sinned against my brother too,

Now Im coming home
By hurting him, Ive tortured you,
Lord Im coming home

There are those who have talents they do not use

To build a true community;
And we know that we all have the talent to love
But leave it buried in ourselves.

1.

LISTEN
Listen let your heart keep seeking,
Listen to His constant speaking,
Listen to the Spirit calling you.
Listen to His inspiration,
Listen to His invitation,
Listen to the Spirit calling you.
He's in the sound of the thunder,
In the whisper of the breeze.
He's in the might of the whirlwind,
In the roaring of the seas.
He's in the laughter of children,
In the patter of the rain.
Hear Him in cries of the suffering
In their moaning and their pain.
He's in the noise of the city
In the twitter of the bird
And in the night-time the stillness
Helps you listen to His word.

I've wandered far away from God,

Now I'm coming home
The paths of sin too long I've trod,
Lord Im coming home

LORD, MAKE ME LIKE YOU

Lord, make me like you, please make me like you.
You are a servant, make me one, too.
O Lord, won't you give me your strength everyday
To build a community, to follow your way?

1.

Whoever among you desires to be great

Must be the servant of all
For even the Son of Man came to serve
And give His life for the world.

2.

You call me your Master and Lord, so I am!

Behold, your feet I have washed
To set an example for all of you of service and of love.

3.

The Spirit anoints me and calls me by name

To bring good news to the poor
Release to the captives and sight to the blind,
To set the prisoner free.

91

LORD, WE PRAY FOR GOLDEN PEACE

1.

Lord, we pray for golden peace, peace all over the

land,
may all men dwell in liberty, all walking hand in hand.

He speaks through all your companions

Through the friendly, through the foe;
Therefore give ear to the Spirit
Wheresoever He may blow.

Banish fear and ignorance, hunger thirst and pain.

Banish hate and poverty, let no man live in vain,
let no man live in vain,

LORD ACCEPT THIS BREAD AND WINE

Lord, accept this bread and wine;
Take our hearts and make them Thine.
Take our work and our anxiety,
Give us life and liberty.

2.

Keep all men forever one, one in love and in grace

And wipe away all war and strife,
give freedom to each race

3.

Let your justice reign supreme,

righteousness always done,

Let goodness rule the hearts of men and evil overcome.

92

is filled to endless day.

5.

Magnificat, magnificat,
magnificat, praise God!
Praise God, praise God, praise God,
praise God
magnificat, praise God.

95

MAKE ME A CHANNEL

LORD, YOU HAVE TOUCHED MY HEART

Lord you have touched my heart and left me speechless
Silence is all I need to sing your praise.

1.

Lord, it is you who are my cup and portion,

Lord, it is you yourself who are my prize.

2.

So I will bless the Lord, who gives me counsel

And who directs my heart all thru' the night.

3.

And so my heart is glad, my soul rejoices,

Even my body shall in safety rest.

4.

Your presence makes my life on earth a heaven,

Your steadfast love and care fills me with joy.

93

2.

3.

94

Make me a channel of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me bring your love,
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
and where theres doubt , true faith in you.

2.

Make me a channel of your peace,

Where theres despair in life, let me bring hope,
Where there is darkness, only light
and where theres sadness, ever joy.
Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved, as to love with all my soul.

3.

Make me a channel of your peace

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving to all men that we receive,
and in dying that were born to eternal life.

LOSE YOURSELF IN ME
Lose yourself in me and you will find yourself
Lose yourself in me and you will find new life
Lose yourself in me and you will find yourself
And you will live, yes, you will live in my love.

1.

1.

Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground

It still remains a grain of wheat;
But if it falls and dies, then it bears much fruit,
So its with those who lose themselves in me.

96

MAKE ME A SERVANT
Make me a servant, humble and meek
Lord, let me lift up those who are weak,
And may the prayer of my heart always be:
Make me a servant (3) today.

Though foxes have their dens, birds a little nest,

The Son of Man no pillow for His rest.
Whoever loves His life or strives the world to gain
Will only find that life was lived in vain.

1.

If we have died with Him, we shall live with Him

If we endure we'll also reign with Him.
Though faithless we may be, faithful He'll remain,
For how can Christ be false unto himself?

Even though you were in the form of God

you took the form of a slave.
You accepted death even on a cross,
so God exalted your name.

2.

Ere you formed me in my mother's womb,

you called me by my name.
And you touched my mouth and appointed me
a prophet to the world.
May I heal the sick and the crippled bind,
Bring back the sheep that stray.
May I seek the lost and the weak make strong
With justice feed the poor.

MAGNIFICAT

1.

My soul proclaims the Lord my God,

my Spirit sings His praise !
He looks on me, He lifts me up
and gladness fills my days.

3.

2.

All nations now will share my joy

His gifts He has outpoured;
His little one He has made great;
I magnify the Lord.

97 MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE

3.

4.

For those who love His holy name

His mercy will not die
His strong right arm puts down the proud
and lifts the lowly high.
He fills the hungry with good things
the rich He sends away
The promise made to Abraham

1.

Make me an instrument of your peace:

Where there is hatred, let me bring love,
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

2.

Make me an instrument of your peace:

Where there's discouragement, let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, let me bring your light
And where there's sadness, let me bring joy.

3.

Make me an instrument of your peace,

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned

It is in giving that we do receive
And it's in dying, we're born to life.

MARY MOST HOLY

Mary most holy, from you hands falling
are heavens blessings. Hear us now calling
Teach us to pray, and work for Gods glory

He brings me life that will reach past the end of time.

4.

My God loves me His faithful love endures.

And I will live like a child held in love secure.

5.

The joys of love are offerings now we bring.

The pains of love will be lost in the praise we sing.

102

Ave Maria, ave.

Help us to witness Christ is still living
service to others cheerfully giving.
Teach us to pray, and work for Gods glory
Through joy and sorrow, each days condition
ever, dear Mother, hear our petition
Teach us to pray, and work for Gods glory
MORNING HAS BROKEN
Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

My heart's like a flute and I want to play all day

Jesus Christ is my music Master.
Deep from my heart flows a simple melody:
Great is His love, love without end! (2)
1.

Once I met the Lord on the way:

Deep was His gaze, kind was His smile,
True were His words, gentle His touch,
He brought me peace and freedom.

2.

He's my shepherd, He is my guide,

Dark be the night, Christ is my light,
Nothing I fear, Jesus is near,
He leads me to the kingdom.

3.

T'wards the land of promise we walk,

There to find peace, there to find joy,
There to find love: God has prepared
A banquet for His people.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,

Born of the one light Eden saw play!
Praise with elation, praise ev'ry morning
God's re-creation of a new day.
103

100

Mother of God, plead with your Son

Pray for us sinners, Mary most pure.
1.

May God pour cleansing streams over us,

Washing our souls from ev'ry stain.

Sing alleluia! The Lord is risen! 2

He is risen indeed, Alleluia!

2.

May He remove our stony hearts,

Give us a heart of flesh in its stead.
May He incline our minds to His voice,
That we may bend our hearts to His will.

4.
5.

101

May He renew the strength of the weak

And be the hope of wavering wills.

1.

MY LORD, HE DIED FOR A KINGDOM

My Lord, He died for a kingdom
to redeem the hearts of men
Now my people, don't you weep
He has risen from His sleep,
He lives again, alleluia

3.

MOTHER OF GOD, PLEAD WITH YOUR

SON

MY HEART'S LIKE A FLUTE

2.

My Lord came forth like the morning

with the splendour of the sun,
came triumphant from the womb,
from the darkness of the tomb,
The victory won, alleluia

3.

My Lord united the mountains

with the everlasting hills,
Now the seasons and the sea
sing His song of victory,
the rocks and hills, alleluia

4.

My Lord renewed all creation

that had waited late and long,
Now we all with one accord
live and love the risen Lord
This is our song, alleluia.

That He may wipe away ev'ry tear

And make His light to shine on our face.
MY GOD LOVES ME

1.

My God loves me, His love will never end.

He rests within my heart for my God loves me.

2.

His gentle hand He stretches over me

Though storm-clouds threaten the day
He will set me free.

3.

He comes to me in sharing bread and wine

104

NEARER MY GOD TO THEE

1.

Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee,

E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me.
Still all my song shall be, while anguish presseth me
Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee

2.

Deep in Thy Sacred Heart, let me abide,

Thou who hast bled for me, sorrowed and died.
Sweet shall my weeping be, grief surely leading me.
Nearer my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee

3.

Friends may depart from me, night may come down

Clouds of adversity, darken and frown
Still through my tears Ill see, Hope gently leading me
Nearer my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee

105

NEW LIFE

No one can give to me that peace

2
Which my risen Lord, my risen King can give

1. When I look around and see all the things that trouble
me
And I seem to lose my peace in a world that's not at
ease.
2. Says my risen Christ to me, "My true peace I give to
thee,
But not as the world doth give
is my peace that makes thee live.
3.

His true peace in me will stay, as I live from day to day

And His joy will never end, and in heaven it will extend.

4.

Christ has risen from the dead,

triumphed over sin & death
And He'll never die again but as
Lord He'll live and reign

New life! New life, you came to bring us new life

New life! New life, we find such joy in your abundant
life.
1.

2.

106
1.

You are the source of our great joy, the fountain of all
life
You give us living water, you bid us come and drink
*(We come to you, we bless you, Lord
We glorify your name!
We praise you, Lord, we worship you,
we thank you for your gift of new life!)
You are the source of our new life:
in your Light we see light
You show to us your goodness; you bid us taste and
see *

Be with us, Mary, along the way,

guide ev'ry step we take.
Lead us to Jesus your loving Son
Come with us Mary, come.
1. When Jesus met with rejection,
Mary stood by the cross;
How can a mother desert her Son?
She'll also stand by us.
3.

Help us, O star of the ocean, be with us in our strife,

When we are faced with temptation,
toss'd by the storms of life.

4.

Often enough in life's banquet

we shall run short of wine
Then as at Cana, request your Son
to make our life divine.

107

108
1.

2.

NO MAN CAN LIVE AS AN ISLAND

No one can live as an island
journeying through life alone
Since we're most loved by a mother,
Jesus gave us His own.

NO ONE CAN GIVE TO ME THAT PEACE

3.

109

O CROSS ERECTED ABOVE THE WORLD

O cross erected above the world, 2
Cross of our Saviour King!

Fount from which gushed the waters

Straight from the wound in His side
Filling our lives with His gift of grace
Cross of our Saviour King
O cross sublime and refulgent tree,
Cross of our Saviour King!

Jesus through thee has saved us,

Great was the price that He paid
Thou art the folly of love divine,
Cross of our Saviour King!
O cross, Thou channel of grace divine,
Cross of our Saviour King!
Tree on which death was conquered
Thou the first altar of love
Jesus, the Lamb gave His life on thee,
Cross of our Saviour King!

O GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD

O give thanks to the Lord for He is good (3)
Yes, eternal is His love!

1.

I will sing to my God never ceasing,

All my life I will tell of His wonders,
He's the Maker of all, earth and heaven,
Of the oceans, the seas and all they hold.

2.

The Almighty is faithful for ever,

He is just to the poor and the outraged,
It is He who gives bread to the hungry,
Who delivers the captives from their chains.

110

O GOD, MY GOD, FOR YOU MY SOUL IS

THIRSTING

3.

Onward through life we journey as seekers of the truth

Building each day a new world of justice, peace and
love.

O God, my God, for you my soul is thirsting!

1.

O God, you are my God for you I long,

For you my soul is thirsting.

2.

Like a dry, weary land without water,

My body pines for you, O Lord.

3.

So I gaze on you in the sanctuary

To see your strength and your glory.

4.

111
1.

114
1.

O perfect love, all human thought transcending,

lowly we kneel in prayer before Thy throne
that theirs may be the love which knows no ending,
whom Thou for ever more dost join in one.

2.

O perfect life, be Thou their full assistance

of tender charity and steadfast faith,
of patient hope, and quiet, brave endurance,
with childlike trust that fears not pain nor death.

3.

Grant them the joy which brightens earthly sorrow,

grant them the peace which calms all earthly strife;
and to lifes day the glorious unknown morrow
that dawns upon eternal love and life.

For your love is better than life itself,

My lips will loudly speak your praise.
O LET THE SON OF GOD ENFOLD YOU
O let the Son of God enfold you
with His Sprit and His love
let Him fill your heart and satisfy your soul
O let Him have the things that hold you,
and His Spirit like a dove
will descend upon your life and make you whole.

115

112

O come and sing this song with gladness,

As your hearts are filled with joy
Lift your hands in brave surrender to His name
O give Him all your tears and sadness,
Give Him all your years of pain
And youll enter into life in Jesus name.

116

O SALUTARIS
O salutaris Hostia, Quae caeli pandis ostium:
Bella premunt hostilia, Da robur, fer auxilium.
Uni trinoque Domino Sit sempiterna gloria:
Qui vitam sine termino Nobis donet in patria. Amen

O LORD FURNACE OF LOVE

117
O Lord, furnace of love,
Set our hearts on fire with charity.

1.

Where there is hatred, let's sow His love,

Where there is injury, let us show pardon,
Where there is strife, let us bring His peace,
Where there is error, truth.

2.

Where there is doubt, let's kindle faith,

Where there's discouragement, let's bring assurance,
Where there is sadness, let's awaken joy,
Where there is darkness, light.

113

O SACRAMENT MOST HOLY

O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine
All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment
Thine.

Jesus, we thank you for your word of truth

Jesus, we thank you for the bread of life
2.

O PERFECT LOVE

1.

1.

Take this and eat my body and drink my saving blood,

Poured out for your redemption: a symbol of my love.

2.

Called to be God's New People,

made one in Christ the Lord
Let us with hearts united, bear witness of your love.

O sing to the chief musician,

O sing from the depths of your hearts,
Lift up your voice and praise His name
With songs of thanksgiving His love proclaim
O sing to the Chief Musician a glorious song:
Hallelujah! Jesus gave us a new song to sing,
Hallelujah! He gave us a new song to sing: Hallelujah!

2.

O LORD, I'M NOT WORTHY

O Lord, I'm not worthy, yet you come to live in me,
So speak your word of comfort,
By your touch strengthen and heal me.

O SING TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN

118

O sing to the chief musician,

O sing from the depths of your hearts,
Lift up your voice and praise His name
His song of salvation our favourite refrain
O sing to the Chief Musician a glorious song:
O VIRGIN FAIR
O Virgin fair, star of the sea 2
my dearest Mother, pray for me

1.

O lady, full of Gods own grace,

whose caring hands the child embraced,
who listened to the Spirits word,

believed and trusted in the Lord.

1.

With this bread and wine we come

to the Eucharistic feast.
*(On this day of joy, on this day of hope,
We come to you in love.)

O lady, who bore livings pain

but still believed that love would reign,
who on a hill watched Jesus die
as on the cross they raised Him high.

2.

Bread to be your body, Lord,

Wine to be your saving blood *

O lady, who, on Easter day

had all your sorrow wiped away
as God the Fathers will was done
When from deaths hold He freed your Son.

123

2.

O lady, who felt daily joy in caring for the holy boy,
whose home was plain and shorn of wealth,
yet was enriched by Gods own breath.

3.

4.

119

OH, HOW GOOD, HOW WONDERFUL IT IS

Ch. On we go to Jerusalem the city of the house of God.

Pilgrim people, we seek the Lord:
The Lord of the house of Rock.
1.

Age on age proclaim His praises,

Each declares Him Lord of all.
Countless millions sing His glory,
Answering His pilgrim call.

2.

Peace He promised to our fathers

In the ancient desert land
Peace He offers in abundance
To His faithful pilgrim band.

3.

All we have is offered to Him

As we come to sing His praise.
Blessed is the Lord of heaven,
Mighty God of all our days.

Oh, how good, how wonderful it is 2

When brothers and sisters live as one
1.

It is as fragrant as pure oil, the ointment of the Lord,

Flowing down as on Aaron of old, anointing everyone.

2.

It is as refreshing as the dew

Upon the mountain of the Lord
For there the favour of the Lord remains,
The blessing of everlasting life.

120

OH, I LOVE THAT MAN OF GALILEE

Oh, I love that man of Galilee, Galilee

for Hes done so very much for me;
He has taken all my sin, placed the Holy Ghost within,
Oh I love that man of Galilee.

124
1.

Down on my knees, I found my Saviour

Down on my knees, I found the Lord.
Not on a mountain, or in a valley,
But on my knees, I found the Lord.
121
1.

On the paten with the host I offer up my lowly heart

All my life, my deeds, my thoughts,
thine shall be as mine Thou art.
In the chalice let me be a drop of water mingled there
Lost, O Jesus, in Thy love, Thy great sacrifice I share.

3.

All today and everyday, O Jesus, let me live in Thee

So that I no longer live, but that
Thou mayst live thru me
ON THIS DAY OF JOY
On this day of joy, on this day of hope,
We come to you in love, O Lord.
On this day of joy, on this day of hope,
We come to you in love.

ONE DAY AT A TIME

I'm only human, I'm just a man/woman
Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am
Show me the stairway I have to climb
Lord for my sake, teach me to take, one day at a time
One day at a time sweet Jesus,
that's all I'm asking from you
Give me the strength, to do every thing that I have to
do
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus,
tomorrow may never be mine
Help me to take, show me the way one day at a time.

ON THE PATEN

122

ON WE GO TO JERUSALEM

2.

Do you remember, when you walked among men

Jesus you know, if you're looking below
It's worse now than then, cheating and stealing
violence and crime, Lord for my sake
teach me to take, one day at a time.

At dusk I tremble, As darkness sets in

Well Jesus you know
I'm weak to the core & I'm burdened with sin
Cleanse me with your love, I'll change my ways
I'll turn around, with the light that I've found
One day at a time
Sometimes I wonder, bout the choices we make
Lord Jesus you know
With the love that you show, I rise up again
And when Im wounded, I turn to you

Let it flow through me, let it flow through me 2

Let the mighty peace of God flow out through me

Gain strength from your love

From heaven above, One day at a time
125

OPEN OUR EYES LORD

Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch Him, and say that we love Him,
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen,
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.

126
1.

2.

3.

127

His love is flowing like a river,

flowing out of you and me,
Flowing out into the desert, setting all the captives free

Flowing out into the desert, setting all the captives free

Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends
Peace, perfect peace is the gift of Christ our Lord.

God has spoken to His people, Alleluia

And His words are words of wisdom, Alleluia.

2.

Israel comes to greet the Saviour

Judah is glad to see His day
From East and West the peoples travel
He will show the way.

3.

He who has ears to hear His message;

He who has ears, then let him hear,
He who would learn the way of wisdom
let him hear Gods words.

Love, perfect love, is the gift of Christ our Lord

Love, perfect love, is the gift of Christ our Lord
Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends
Love, perfect love, is the gift of Christ our Lord.
Faith, perfect faith, is the gift of Christ our Lord
Faith, perfect faith, is the gift of Christ our Lord
Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends
Faith, perfect faith, is the gift of Christ our Lord

4.

Hope, perfect hope, is the gift of Christ our Lord

Hope, perfect hope, is the gift of Christ our Lord
Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends
Hope, perfect hope, is the gift of Christ our Lord

OUR HEARTS WERE MADE FOR YOU

LORD

5.

Joy, perfect joy, is the gift of Christ our Lord

Joy, perfect joy, is the gift of Christ our Lord
Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends
Joy, perfect joy, is the gift of Christ our Lord

Ch. Our hearts were made for you, Lord,

Our hearts were made for you.
They'll never find, never find, never find rest
Until they find their rest in you.

130

PRAISE GOD, PRAISE GOD

1.

When you call me I will answer,

When you seek me you will find.
I will lead you back from exile
And reveal to you my mind.

Praise God, Praise God

Let His love remind us of the power of His name.
Praise God, praise God!
All creation sings its song of praise.

2.

I will take you from the nations

And will bring you to your land
From your idols I will cleanse you
And you'll cherish my command.

1. I will praise you, God and King each and every day.
My mouth shall never cease to sing
And I will bless your name for ever.

3. I will put my law within you,

I will write it on your heart
I will be your God and Saviour,
You, my people set apart.
128
1.

2.

The splendour of your majesty is joyfully retold,

The fame of your abundant good
And justice, we will sing for ever.

3.

The Lord is kind and merciful, His anger slow to rise.

The Lord is good in all His works,
His graciousness remains for ever.

PEACE IS FLOWING LIKE A RIVER

Peace is flowing like a river, flowing out of you and me,
Flowing out into the desert, setting all the captives free

131

PRECIOUS LORD

1.

When my way groweth drear Precious Lord linger

near.
When my life is almost gone hear my cry, hear my call,
hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand, Precious Lord, lead me on.
Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, let me stand,
Im tired, Im weak, Im worn
Thru the storm, thru the night
lead me on to the light
Take my hand Precious Lord, lead me on.

2.

132

Blessed your great and glorious holy name

Glory and praise for ever more!
2.

136
1.

When my work is all done and my race here is run

let me see by the light Thou hast shown
that fair city so bright where the Lamb is the light,
take my hand, Precious Lord, lead me on.

Let your loins be girt and your lamps alight,

Waiting for the day when the Master comes.
May He find you watching when He returns,
He'll come like a thief in the night.

2.

If we die with Him we shall live with Him,

If we now endure, we shall reign with Him.
If we are not faithful, He still keeps faith
For He can't be false to himself.
REJOICE EVER MORE

2.

Oh that old rugged cross, so despised by the world

has a wondrous attraction for me
for the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary.

3.

In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine

a wondrous beauty I see
For twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died
to pardon and sanctify me.

4.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true

its shame and reproach gladly bear.
Then Hell call me someday to my home far away
there His glory for ever Ill share.

137

Rejoice ever more, for this is the will of God (3)

In Christ Jesus concerning you.
Sing alleluia to the Lord, our God
Enter His courts with songs of praise

Pray without ceasing for this is the will of God.

3.

In everything give thanks for this is the will of God.

1.

SEEK YE FIRST
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His
righteousness
and all these things shall be added unto you
Allelu, alleluia.
Alleluia, allelu, alleluia, allelu, alleluia. (2)

2.

Ask and it shall be given unto you.

Seek and ye shall find.
Knock and it shall be opened unto you
Allelu, alleluia.

REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS

Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice (2)
Rejoice, rejoice, and again I say rejoice (2)
Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice (2)

135

1.

2.

134

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,

the emblem of suffring and shame;
and I loved that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

PUT ON THE ARMOUR

1.

1.

RUGGED CROSS

So Ill cherish the old rugged cross

till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
and exchange it someday for a crown.

Put on the armour of Jesus Christ,

Build up your strength in the Lord,
Gird yourself with His truth, carry faith as a shield,
The Good News a sword in your hand.

133

Blest in the temple of your glory, Glory...

Blessed are you who gaze into the depths, Glory...

138

SEND FORTH YOUR SPIRIT O LORD

Send forth your Spirit, O Lord,
That the face of the earth be renewed.

RING OUT YOUR JOY

1.

Ring out your joy, give glory to God,

Lift up your hearts and sing.
Let all creation tell of His name,
Praise Him for ever more!

O my soul, arise and bless the Lord God,

Say to Him: My God, how great you are!
You are clothed with majesty and splendour
And light is the garment you wear.

2.

You have built your palace on the waters,

Like the winds the angels fly before you.
You have set the earth on its foundations,
So firm to be shaken no more.

Blessed are you God of our fathers,

Glory and praise for ever more!

So praise Him now for ever more, glory, halleluia.

3.

139
1.

2.

3.

All your creatures look to you for comfort,

From your open hand they have their fill.
You send forth your Spirit and revive them,
The face of the earth you renew.

3.

SHOWERS OF BLESSING
There shall be showers of blessing
This is the promise of love
There shall be seasons refreshing
Sent from the Saviour above

142

Showers of Blessing, showers of blessing we need

Mercy drops round us are falling
But for the showers we plead

1.

There shall be showers of blessing

Send them upon us O Lord
Grant to us now a refreshing
Come and now honour Thy word

I will give thanks to you, my Lord,

You have answered my plea,
You have saved my soul from death,
You are my strength and my song.

2.

This is the day that the Lord has made

Let us be glad and rejoice.
He has turned all death to life
Sing of the glory of God.

There shall be showers of blessing

O that today they might fall,
Now as to God were confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call.

1.

Yahweh's people dance for joy, O come before the Lord

And play for Him on glad tambourines
And let your trumpet sound.

2.

Rise, O children from your sleep

your Saviour now has come
He has turned your sorrow to joy
And filled your heart with love.

3.

Glad my soul, for I have seen the glory of the Lord.

The trumpet sounds, the dead shall be raised,
I know my Saviour lives.

1.

1.

Sing we now in praise of Mary,

Sing with joy her praises due,
Imitate her ev'ry virtue
As a loyal child and true.
In her womb she moulded Jesus,
In her heart God's Word did stay.
Into other Christs she'll change us
In a mother's gentle way.

2.

Sing of Jesus, Son of Mary,

In the home at Nazareth.
Toil and labour cannot weary
Love enduring unto death.
Constant was the love He gave her,
Though He went forth from her side,
Forth to preach and heal and suffer,
Till on Calvary He died.

SING PRAISES TO THE LIVING GOD

Sing praises to the living God, glory, halleluia.
Come adore the living God, glory, halleluia
Though sun and moon may pass away
His words will ever stay
His power is for ever more, glory, halleluia.

144

And to the living God we sing, glory, halleluia

Let our love and praises ring, glory, halleluia
To all His sons He always gives
His mercy and His love.

SOUL OF MY SAVIOUR

1.

Soul of my Saviour, sanctify my breast

Body of Christ, be Thou my saving guest;
Blood of my Saviour, bathe me in Thy tide
wash me with water flowing from Thy side.

2.

Strength and protection may Thy Passion be;

O Blessed Jesus, hear and answer me;
deep in Thy wounds Lord, hide and shelter me;
so shall I never, never part from Thee.

3.

Guard and defend me from the foe malign

In deaths dread moments make me only Thine;
Call me and bid me come to Thee on high,
when I may praise Thee with Thy saints for aye.

Glory to the Trinity, the undivided Unity

the Farther, Son and Spirit one,
from whom all life and greatness come.
2.

SING WE NOW IN PRAISE OF MARY

SING A NEW SONG UNTO THE LORD

Sing a new song unto the Lord,
Let your song be sung from mountains high
Sing a new song unto the Lord, singing alleluia.

141

SING TO THE MOUNTAINS

Sing to the mountains, sing to the sea,
Raise your voices, lift your heart,
This is the day the Lord has made,
Let all the earth rejoice.

143
140

And to the God who cannot die, glory, halleluia

To the living God we cry, glory, halleluia
He promised to be with us and
He lives in every one
We love Him now for ever more, glory, halleluia

In songs of love and heart-felt praise

Sweet Sacrament divine (2)

SPIRIT OF GOD IN THE CLEAR RUNNING
WATER
1.

Sweet Sacrament of Peace! dear home for every heart,

Where restless yearnings cease and sorrows all depart
There in Thine ear, all trustfully,
We tell our tale of misery,
Sweet Sacrament of Peace (2)

3.

Sweet Sacrament of Rest! Ark from the oceans roar,

Within Thy shelter blest soon may we reach the shore.
Save us, for still the tempest raves;
Save, lest we sink beneath the waves,
Sweet Sacrament of Rest! (2)

Spirit of God in the clear running water,

Blowing to greatness the trees on the hill
Spirit of God in the finger of morning:
Fill the earth, bring it to birth and blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But breath of the Spirit, blowing in me.

2.

2.

Spirit of God, everyones heart is lonely,

Watching and waiting and hungry until,
Spirit of God, we long that you only: fulfill the earth...

SWEET HEART OF JESUS

Sweet heart of Jesus font of love and mercy
today we come Thy blessings to implore
Oh touch our hearts so cold and so ungrateful
and make them, Lord, Thine own for ever more.
Sweet heart of Jesus, we Thee implore
Oh make us love Thee, more and more (2)

2.

Sweet heart of Jesus make us know and love Thee

unfold to us the treasures of Thy grace
that so our hearts from things of earth uplifted
may long alone to gaze upon Thy face.

3.

Sweet heart of Jesus make us pure and gentle

and teach us how to do Thy blessed will
to follow close the print of Thy dear footsteps
and when we fall Sweet heart, oh, love us still.

Sweet heart of Jesus bless all hearts that love Thee

and may Thine own heart ever blessed be;

1.

SWEET SACRAMENT DIVINE

Sweet Sacrament divine! Hid in Thine earthly home
Lo! round Thy lowly shrine,
With suppliant hearts we come
Jesus, to Thee our voice we raise

Take and receive, O Lord, my liberty

Take all my will, my mind, my memory.
Do Thou direct and govern all and sway,
Do what Thou wilt, command and I obey.
Only Thy grace and love on me bestow, 2
Possessing these, all riches I forego

3. Spirit of the living God, teach us how to pray (2)...

147

TAKE AND RECEIVE

All things I hold, and all I own are thine,

Thine was the gift, to Thee I all resign.
Do Thou direct and govern all and sway,
Do what Thou wilt, command and I obey.

150 TAKE MY HANDS

1.

Take my hands and make them as your own

and use them for your kingdom here on earth
Consecrate them to your care,
anoint them for your service where
you may need your gospel to be sown.

2.

Take my hands, they speak now for my heart

and by their actions they will show their love.
Guard them on their daily course
be their strength and guiding force
to ever serve the Trinity above.

3.

Take my hands, I give them to you, Lord

Prepare them for the service of your name
Open them to human need
and by their love theyll sow your seed
so all may know the love and hope you give.

151

TAKE OUR BREAD

Take our bread, we ask you,
Take our hearts, we love you,
Take our lives, O Father, [we are yours (2)]

1.

Yours as we stand at the table you set,

Yours as we eat the bread our hearts can't forget.
We are the sign of your life with us yet
We are yours, we are yours!

2.

152

Your holy people standing washed in your blood

Spirit-filled yet hungry we await your food
We are poor, but weve brought ourselves
the best we could; we are yours, we are yours.

3.

You have brought us out of darkness

To the kingdom of your Son
In whom all things hold together,
By whose cross we are made one.

4.

Lord, we thank you for your Spirit,

Whom you send to us to stay,
For He helps us in our weakness
When we know not how to pray.

TAKE THIS AND EAT IT

Take this and eat it for this is my body,
Take this and drink it for this is my blood.

1.

Taste and see that the Lord is all goodness

Happy those who take refuge in Him.

2.

Come to me, you who are heavy laden,

Take my yoke, for my burden is light.

3.

When you eat and you drink at this table

Jesus' death you proclaim till He comes.

156
THANK YOU LORD, FOR SAVING MY
SOUL
Thank you Lord, for saving my soul
Thank you Lord, for making me whole,
Thank you Lord, for giving to me,
Thy great salvation, so rich and free.
157 THE BELLS OF THE ANGELUS

153

TAKE THOU THE OFFERING

1.
Take Thou the offering Thy children make
all united for Thy names sake.

The bells of the Angelus calleth to pray

In sweet tones announcing the sacred Ave:
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! (2)

1.

Heavenly Father, Almighty God

we offer Thee this sacrifice
show to us Thy mercy, oh Lord,
forgive us the sins of all our life.

2.
158

2.

154

To Thee, oh Lord, our joy we give

our weariness, our work and woe,
the anxious moments that we live,
lighten our burden as we go.

THE KING OF GLORY

Ch. The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices

open the gates before Him, lift up your voices.
1.

Who is the King of glory, how shall we call Him ?

He is Emmanuel, the promise of ages.

2.

In all of Galilee, in city and village

He goes among His people, curing their illness.

3.

Sing then of Davids Son, our Saviour and brother;

in all of Galilee, was never another.

4.

He gave His life for us, the pledge of salvation

He took upon himself, the sins of the nation.

5.

He conquered sin and death; He truly has risen

and He will share with us His heavenly vision.

TANTUM ERGO
Tantum ergo sacramentum, Veneremur cernui;
Et antiquum documentum, Novo cedat ritui;
Praestet fides supplementum, Sensuum defectui.
Genitori, Genitoque, Laus et jubilatio:
Salus, honor, virtus quoque, Sit et benedictio:
Procedenti ab utroque, Compar sit laudatio. Amen

155

Immaculate Mary, Thy praises we sing,

Who reignest with Christ, our Redeemer and King.

THANK YOU, LORD, FOR ALL

YOU'VE DONE
Thank you, Lord, for all you've done,
Things both great and small,
And for Jesus Christ your Son,
Thank you most of all.

1.

You forgive us when we falter,

You bring healing when we sin,
You redeem our life from bondage
And renew us deep within.

2.

As the rain comes down from heaven

And it makes the earth yield fruit,
So the Word that you once planted
In our heart has taken root.

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want
Fresh and green are the pastures
Where He gives me repose
Near restful waters He leads me
To revive my drooping Spirit.
The Lord is my shepherd
There is nothing I shall want. Yes the...

2.

He guides me along what He knows to be right.

If I walk in the darkness, no evil would I fear,
I know that He will be there

With His crook and with His staff.

4.
3.

160

The Lord has prepared such a banquet for me.

Surely goodness and kindness shall follow after me.
In the Lord's own house shall I dwell
All the days of my life.

163

2.

He will guard your coming and your going,

He will be the one to guard your life
The sun will not harm you in the daylight
And the Lord will watch you through the night.
He has seen a thousand years go past Him
Swiftly as the morning fades to night.
So come let Him fill you with His wisdom
To number all your days aright.

Therefore we before Him bending,

this great sacrament revere
Types and shadows have their ending,
for the newer rite is here,
Faith our outward sense befriending,
makes the inward vision clear.

2.

Glory let us give and blessing

to the Father and the Son,
Honour, might and praise addressing,
while eternal ages run, ever to His love confessing
Who from both with both is one. Amen.

THE LORD'S MY SHEPHERD

1.

The Lords my shepherd, Ill not want

He makes me down to lie
in pastures green, He leadeth me
the quiet waters by.

2.

My soul He doth restore again,

and me to walk doth make
within the paths of righteousness
een for His own names sake.

3.

Yea, though I walk in deaths dark vale,

yet will I fear none ill.
For Thou art with me, and Thy rod
and staff me comfort still.

4.

My table Thou hast furnished

in presence of my foes.
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
and my cup overflows.

5.

162
1.

Goodness and mercy all my life

shall surely follow me.
And in Gods house for ever more
my dwelling-place shall be.
THERE IS A RIVER

2.

Wash me with the water, and then I shall be clean;

White as the new snow, if you remove my sin.

3.

Plunged in the water the tomb of our rebirth

so may we rise up, to share in Christs new life.

THEY'LL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTIANS

We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord (2)
And we'll pray that all unity may one day be restored
And they'll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love.
Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

2. We will walk with each other, 2

we will walk hand in hand

And together we'll spread the news

That God is in our land

3. We will work with each other, 2

we will work side by side

And we'll guard each one's dignity

and save each one's pride.

THIS WORLD YOU HAVE MADE

170 WE ARE GATHERING TOGETHER UNTO HIM
This world you have made is a beautiful place,
It tells the pow'r of your love.
We rejoice in the beauty of your world
From the seas to the heavens above.

1.

The morning whispers of purity,

The evening of your peace.
The thunder booms your exuberance
In the awesome pow'r you release.

2.

The tenderness of a newborn child,

The gentleness of the rain,
Simplicity in a single cell
And complexity in a brain.

3.

Your stillness rests in a silent pool,

Infinity drifts in space;
Your grandeur straddles the mountain tops
And we see your face in each face.

We are gathering together unto Him (2)

Unto Him shall the gathering of the people be.
We are gathering together unto Him
We are singing together unto Him (2)
Unto Him shall the singing of the people be.
We are singing together unto Him
We are praying together unto Him (2)

Walk in the light (3)

We celebrate this festive day with prayr and joyful song

Our Fathers house is home to us:
we know that we belong
The bread is broken, wine is poured, a feast to lift us up!
Then thank the Lord
who gives himself as food and saving cup!

WALK IN THE LIGHT

Lets all join together in communion sweet,
walk, walk in the light
and love one another till our Saviour we meet
walk, walk in the light.

WE CELEBRATE THIS FESTIVE DAY

2.

The door is open, enter in and take your place by right.

For youve been chosen
as His guest to share His love and light.

3.

We come together as the twelve

came to the Upper Room.

Our host is Jesus Christ the Lord,
now risen from the tomb.
172

Our love proclaim with evry breath

To Christ our King and Lord of Lords,
We will be faithful unto death.

WE HAIL THEE SAVIOUR AND LORD

We hail Thee, Saviour and Lord,
Thy cross ever be adored

O cross Thou art the fountain of love and of liberty,

Shine down upon the millions
who search for the light of truth.

2.

Look down upon the needy

confirm them in strength and grace.
Thou art our true salvation,
In Thee all our hope we place

173
1.

2.

3.

174
1.

What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

2.

Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3.

Are we weak and heavy laden

Cumbered with a load of care
Precious Saviour still our refuge
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Do thy friends despise forsake thee
Take it to the Lord in prayer
In His arms Hell take and shield thee
Thou will find a solace there.

Be Thou our sign of vict'ry

Redeem us from sin and strife;
Renew in us Thy passion And grant us eternal life.
WE HAVE COME INTO HIS HOUSE
2

We have come into His house

and gathered in His name to worship Him
We have come into His house
and gathered in His name
to worship Christ the Lord,
worship Him, Christ, the Lord.

So forget about yourself

2
and concentrate on Him and worship Him

So forget about yourself and concentrate on Him

and worship Christ the Lord
worship Him, Christ, the Lord.
Let us lift up holy hands
2
and magnify His name and worship Him

Let us lift up holy hands and magnify His name

And worship Christ the Lord,
worship Him, Christ, the Lord.
WE STAND FOR GOD
We stand for God and for His glory,
The Lord supreme and God of all
Against His foes we raise His standard,
Around the cross we hear His call.
Strengthen our faith, Redeemer,
Guard us when danger is nigh.
To Thee we pledge our lives and service
Strong in a trust that ne'er shall die

2.

We stand for God, Jesus our Master

Has saved the world with love untold
His law divine and truth unchanging
In this our land their place must hold!

3.

We stand for God, let us be loyal,

WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

1.

1.

4.

175

176 WHAT A JOY, WHAT A JOY

What a joy, what a joy for us to say
We're on our way to the house of the Lord

1.

Thro' your gates we'll enter in, open wide the door.
Here we'll find a welcome place, and peace for ever
more.
2.

Coming to Jerusalem, on His holy ground,

City mounted on a hill, its houses all around.

3.

All the tribes of Israel, countless caravans,

Ev'ryone is going there, to where the Temple stands.

177

WHAT THANKS, O LORD

What thanks, O Lord, can I render Thee
For all the gifts Thou hast show'red on me?
Each day I'll sing of your praise and glory
Allelu, alleluia!

1.

Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp,

With a ten-stringed lute sing Him songs,
O sing Him a song that is new,
Play loudly with all your skill.

2.

O sing to the glory of His name.

Say to God: How great are Thy deeds!

Burnt offering to Thee I will bring
To Thee I will pay my vows.
3.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good,

Yes, eternal is His love
Though I walk in the midst of affliction
He stretches His hand to save.

*(Lord to whom shall we go,

You alone have the words of eternal life!)
2. Lord, you abide in this Sacrament of love
For it is your delight
Thus to dwell with your people on earth*
181

178

WHATSOEVER YOU DO

YES I SHALL ARISE

Yes, I shall arise and return to my Father.

Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers

That you do unto me.
Whatsoever you do to the least of my sisters,
That you do unto me.

1.

1.

When I was hungry you gave me to eat,

When I was thirsty you gave me to drink,
Now enter into the home of my Father.

3.

Do not withhold your goodness from me

O Lord, may your love be deep in my soul.

4.
2.

When I was weary you helped me find rest.

When I was anxious you calmed all my fears.
Now enter into the home of my Father.

Mercy I cry, O Lord, wash me clean

And whiter than snow my Spirit shall be

5.

Happy are they forgiven by God,

Their sins blotted out, their guilt is no more.

When I was homeless you opened your door,

When I was naked you gave me your coat.
Now enter into the home of my Father.

182

3.

4.

179

When I was laughed at you stood by my side,

When I was happy you shared in my joy.
Now enter into the home of my Father.

As a Church, we belong to Christ's Body.

We're a kingdom of love and charity,
We're a city, a light to the nations
Yes, the people of promise are we.

2.

As a Body, we grow strong together,

When we focus our hearts on others' needs,
When we hold up the banner for justice
When we love, not by words but deeds.

3.

As a People were rooted in Jesus

As a nation, united we stand!
But its only thru grace we are worthy
To inherit and enter our land.

180

1.

He is the highest ruler

With authority over every other power,
He is the highest ruler over every other power.

2.

Look for the things of heaven

You have died to sin, you have risen with the Lord.
When Jesus comes in glory,
You'll appear in glory too!

183

1.

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands (3)
While you go out with joy!

2.

And all the birds of the sky will chirp and sing (3)
While you go out with joy!

3.

And all the angels of heaven will flap their wings (3)
While you go out with joy!

184
1.

1. Blessed is he who will listen to your Word,

He shall never see death for by you he's heir to new life

YOU SHALL GO OUT WITH JOY

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace
The mountains and the hills will break forth before you.
There'll be shouts of joy and all the trees of the field
Will clap, will clap their hands.

WITHOUT SEEING YOU WE LOVE YOU

Without seeing you we love you,
without seeing we believe,
And we sing, Lord, your glory: we believe in you!

YOU HAVE EVERYTHING

You have everything when you have Christ (2)
You are filled with God through your union,
Through your union with Christ.

WHERE TWO OR THREE ARE GATHERED

Where two or three are gathered in my name:
there am I, there am I,
Where two or three are gathered in my name,
There am I in their midst ever more.

1.

2.

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul,

In you, O my God, I place all my trust.
Look down on me, have mercy, O Lord,
Forgive me my sins, behold all my grief.

ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains,
And the mountains in reply

Echo still their joyous strains

Gloria in excelsis De-o! (2)
2.

3.

Shepherds, why this jubilee,

Why your rapturous strain prolong?
Say, what may the tidings be,
Which inspire your heavenly song?
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing:
come, adore on bended knee
the infant Christ, the new-born King.

Gloria, hosanna in excelsis !

2.

Een so here below, below, let steeple bells be swungen

and io, io, io, by priest and people sungen.

3.

Pray you, dutifully prime, your matin chime, ye

ringers;
may you beautifully rhyme, your evetime song, ye
singers.

188
1.

4.

185
1.

See within a manger laid,

Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth!
Mary! Joseph, lend your aid
to celebrate our Saviour's birth.
AWAY IN THE MANGER
Away in the manger, no crib for a bed,
the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay
the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

2.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,

but little Lord Jesus no crying He makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
and stand by my side until morning is nigh.

3.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay

close by me for ever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
and fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there.

186

1.

He lies 'mid the beasts of the stall

Who is Maker and Lord of us all.
The wintry wind blows cold and dreary,
See, He weeps the world is weary.
Lord, have pity and mercy on me.

2.

He leaves all His glory behind

To be born and to die for mankind
With grateful beasts His cradle chooses
Thankless man His love refuses.
Lord, have pity and mercy on me.

187
1.

2.

Christ, by highest heaven adored,

Christ, the everlasting Lord
late in time behold Him come,
offspring of a Virgin's womb!
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
hail the incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel.

3.

Hail the heaven-born Prince of peace!

Hail the Son of righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
risen with healing in His wings;
mild He lays His glory by,
born that man no more may die,
born to raise the sons of earth,
born to give them second birth.

189

IT CAME UPON THE MIDNIGHT CLEAR

1.

It came upon the midnight clear,

that glorious song of old,
from angels bending near the earth
to touch their harps of gold;
Peace on the earth, goodwill to men,
from heavens all-gracious King!
The world in solemn stillness lay
to hear the angels sing.

2.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife

the world has suffered long;
beneath the angel-strain have rolled
two thousand years of wrong;
and man, at war with man, hears not
the love-song which they bring:
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
and hear the angels sing!

3.

For lo, the days are hastening on,

by prophets seen of old,

DING DONG MERRILY ON HIGH

Ding dong! merrily on high, in heavn the bells are
ringing.
Ding dong! verily the sky, is rivn with angels singing.

Hark, the herald angels sing glory to the new-born King

Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled.
Joyful all ye nations rise join the triumph of the skies
With th'angelic hosts proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem

Hark the herald angels sing Glory to the new-born

King.

COME, COME, COME TO THE MANGER

Come, come, come to the manger
Children come to the children's King.
Sing, sing, chorus of angels,
Stars of morning, o'er Bethlehem sing.

HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING

when with the ever-circling years

shall come the time foretold,
when the new heaven and earth shall own
the prince of peace their king,
and all the world send back the song
which now the angels sing.
190

lo! He abhors not the Virgin's womb;

very God, begotten not created:
4.

JOY TO THE WORLD

193

1.

2.

3.

191
1.

Joy to the world, the Lord has come!

Let earth receive her king.
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing (2)
And heaven and heaven and nature sing.
Joy to the world, the Saviour reigns!
Let all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks hills and plains,
Repeat the sounding joy (2)
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
He rules the world with truth and grace!
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love (2)
And wonders, and wonders of His love.
LONG TIME AGO IN BETHLEHEM
Long time ago in Bethlehem
In a manger, poor and small
Mary's boy child Jesus Christ
Was born to die for all.
Hark, now hear the angels sing
A saviours born today
*(That we may live for ever more
because of Christmas Day).
Trumpets sound and angels sing
Listen to what they say*

2.

Now shepherds heard the angels say:

I bring good news of great joy
for unto you a child is born
Marys little baby boy.

3.

King Herod of Jerusalem made the holy city stir

For wise men brought the little child
gold, frankincense and myrrh.

192
1.

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee,

born this happy morning,
Jesus, to Thee be glory given;
word of the Father, now in flesh appearing:

1.

2.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation

Sing all ye citizens of heaven above
Glory to God in the highest:

3.

God of God, light of light,

O come, O come, Emmanuel,

and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appears
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel, shall come to Thee, O
Israel.

2.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free

Thine own from Satans tyranny;
from depths of hell Thy people save
and give them victry oer the grave.

3.

O come, though dayspring, come and cheer

our spirits by Thine advent here;
disperse the gloomy clouds of night
and deaths dark shadows put to flight.

4.

O come, Thou key of David, come

and open wide our heavenly home;
make safe the way that leads on high,
and close the path to misery;

5.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might

who to Thy tribes on Sinais height
in ancient times didst give the Law
in cloud of majesty and awe;

194

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

1.

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see Thee lie!

Above Thy deep and dreamless sleep
the silent stars go by.
Yet in Thy dark streets shineth, the everlasting light;
the hopes and fears of all the years
are met in Thee tonight.

2.

O morning stars, together, proclaim the holy birth

and praises sing to God the King
and peace to men on earth;
for Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above
while mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wondering love.

3.

How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given!

So God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming; but in this world of sin
where meek souls will receive Him, still
the dear Christ enters in.

4.

Where children pure and happy, pray to the blessed

Child,

O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
come and behold Him, born the King of angels:
O come, let us adore Him, (3) Christ the Lord.

O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL

where misery cries out to Thee, Son of the mother

mild;
where charity stands watching
and faith holds wide the door
the dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
and Christmas comes once more.
195
1.

2.

Son of God, love's pure light

radiant beams from Thy holy face,
with the dawn of redeeming grace:
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth (2).
4.

ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID'S CITY

Once in royal Davids city, stood a lowly cattle shed
where a Mother laid her baby, in a manger for His bed;
Mary was that Mother mild, Jesus Christ her little
child.
He came down to earth from heaven
who is God and Lord of all.
And His shelter was a stable, and His cradle was a
stall;
With the poor, and mean and lowly
lived on earth our Saviour holy.

197
SOMEWHERE FAR FROM TOWN AND
PEOPLE
1.

And through all His wondrous childhood

He would honour and obey
love, and watch the lowly maiden
in whose gentle arms He lay;
Christian children, all must be,
mild, obedient, good as He.

5.

6.

196
1.

2.

3.

For He is our childhoods pattern,

day by day like us He grew;
He was little, weak and helpless;
tears and smiles like us He knew;
and He feeleth for our sadness
and He shareth in our gladness;

198
1.

And our eyes at last shall see Him

thru His own redeeming love;
for that child so dear and gentle
is our Lord in heaven above;
and He leads His children on
to the place where He is gone;
Hot in that poor lowly stable,
with the oxen standing by
we shall see Him; but in heaven
set at Gods right hand on high;
when like stars His children crowned
all in white shall wait around.

Silent night, holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight,
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah!
Christ, the Saviour is born. (2)
Silent night, holy night

Did you hear the angels' tiding? You can hear it still
If you bend His cave to enter, if you're of good will.
THE FIRST NOEL
The First Noel the angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay a-keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel , Noel , Noel
Born is the King of Israel

2.

They looked up and saw a star,

shining in the east, beyond them far,
and to the earth it gave great light,
and so it continued both day and night.

3.

Then let us all with one accord

sing praises to our heavenly Lord,
that hath made heaven and earth of nought,
and with His blood mankind hath bought.

SILENT NIGHT
Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant, so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace! (2)

In the midst of noise and tumult can His voice be heard?

No, we'll live in peace and silence, eager for His Word.

3. In the hungry, sick and homeless, Christ himself

conceals
To the lowly, meek and humble, He himself reveals.
4.

4.

Somewhere far from town and people in a stable poor,

Jesus Christ was born of Mary in a cave obscure.
To seek Him don't trouble to Bethlehem to go,
In silence you'll find Him and in the poor next door.

2.
3.

Silent night, holy night

Bethlehem sleeps yet what light
Floats around the Holy pair
Songs of angels fill the air
Strains of heavenly peace (2)

199
1.

WE THREE KINGS
We three kings of Orient are
bearing gifts we traverse afar;
field and fountain, moor and mountain
following yonder star.
Oh, star of wonder, star of night
star with royal beauty bright
westward leading, still proceeding,
guide us to Thy perfect light.

Born a King on Bethlehem plain,

gold I bring to crown Him again
King for ever, ceasing never,
over us all to reign.
Frankincense to offer have I,
incense owns a Deity nigh.
Prayer and praising, all men raising
worship Him, God most high.
Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
Glorious now behold Him arise,
King and God and sacrifice;
Alleluia, alleluia
earth to heaven replies.
WHILE SHEPHERDS WATCHED THEIR
FLOCKS
While shepherds watched their flocks by night
all seated on the ground
the Angel of the Lord came down,
and glory shone around.
Fear not, said He, (for mighty dread
had seized their troubled mind)
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
to you and all mankind.

And wine to cheer the heart

Which will soon be filled for us
With the life of your son
2

Take this drop of water, too

Sign of our weakness, yet symbol of our love
By its mingling may we share your divinity

Please accept our sacrifice

Offered to honour the glory of your name
Sinners all we bring to you humble contrite hearts

202

ALL GLORY LAUD AND HONOUR

Ch. All glory laud and honour to thee Redeemer King

To whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring
1

Thou are the King of Israel, thou Davids royal son

Who in the Lords name comest,

The company of angels, are praising thee on high

And mortal men and all things created make reply

3.

The people of the Hebrews,

with palms before thee went
Our praise and prayer and anthems
before thee we present

To thee before thy passion,

they sang their hymns of praise
To thee now high exalted our melody we raise
Thou didst accept our praises,
accept the prayers we bring
Who in all good delightest,
Thou good and gracious King

3.

To you in Davids town this day

is born of Davids line
a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord;
and this shall be the sign.

4.

The heavenly Babe you there shall find

to human view displayed
all meanly wrapped in swathing bands
and in a manger laid.

203

5.

Thus spake the Seraph; and forthwith

appeared a shining throng
of angels praising God, who thus
addressed their joyful song;

At the dawn of Easter morning,

when the stone was rolled away
Then from the darkness rose in glory
Jesus Christ true risen light
Brightning all the earths dark night

6.

All glory be to God on high,

and on the earth be peace,
goodwill henceforth from heaven to me
begin and never cease.

From the depths of weary bondage

Man and God has risen too
All eyes are opened from their blindness
To the Light of heavnly view
And with Christ they rise a new

Now the heart of every creature,

Fill with hope and with gratitude
They rise resplendent from their bondage
For their Lord has set them free
From the powr of deaths decree

As long as the azure shall keep its bright hue

Sing gaily in chorus, the bright angels oer us

Re-echo the strains we begin upon earth
Their harps are repeating, the notes of our greeting
For Mary herself is the cause of our mirth

Evry bird, evry tree helps me know, helps me see
Helps me feel God is love and loves around
From each river painted blue to the early morning dew
This is love, God is love, loves around
Evry prayer, evry song, makes me feel I belong
To a world filled with love thats all around
From each daybreak to each night
Out of darkness comes the light
This is love, God is love, loves around
Evry mountain, evry stream,
evry flower, evry dream
Comes from God, Gos is love and loves around
From the every-changing sky, to a new-born babys cry
This is love, God is love, loves around

And in Your presence rest

For we know, we always can trust you.
4

Father I want to be with you

And do the things you do.
Father I want to speak the words

FILL MY HOUSE UNTO THE FULLEST

Fill my house unto the fullest
Eat my bread and drink my wine
The love I bear is held from no one
All I own and all I do, I give to you

Faith of our fathers living still

In spite of dungeon, of dungeon, fire, and sword
Oh how our hearts beat high with joy
When eer we hear that glorious word

Take my time unto the fullest

Find in me the trust you seek
And take my hands to you outreaching
All I own and all I do, I give to you

Faith of our fathers holy faith

We will be true to thee till death
We will be true to thee till death

Christ our Lord with love enormous

From his cross his lesson taught
To love all men as I have loved you
All I own and all I do, I give to you

Join with me as one in Christ-love|

May our hearts all beat as one
And may we give ourselves completely
All I own and all I do, I give to you

FAITH OF OUR FATHERS

Our fathers chained in prisons dark

Were sill in heart and conscience free
How sweet would be their childrens fate
If they, like them could die for thee

215

FOLLOW ME, FOLLOW ME

Follow me, follow me, leave your home and family
Leave your fishing nets and boats upon the shore
Leave the seed that you have sown,
Leave the crops that youve grown
Leave the people you have known and follow me

Faith of our fathers we will love

both friend and foe in all our strife
And preach thee too, as love knows how
By kindly words and virtuous life
1

The foxes have their holes

And the swallows have their nests
But the Son of man has no place to lay down
I do not offer comfort, I do not offer wealth
But in me will all happiness be found

Father I place into your hands

My friends and family.
Father I place into our hands
The thinks that trouble me
Father I place into our hands
The person I would be
For I know, I always can trust you.

If you would follow me

You must leave old ways behind
You must take my cross and follow on my path
You may be far from loved ones
You may be far from home
But my father will welcome you at last

Although I go away you will never be alone

For the Spirit will be there to comfort you
Though all of you may scatter
Each follow his own path
Till the Spirit of love will lead you home

Father we love to seek Your face

We love to hear Your voice
Father we love to sing Your praise
And in Your name rejoice
Father we love to walk with you

216

FATHER I PLACE INTO YOUR HANDS

Father I place into your hands
The things that I cant do

GOD FORGAVE MY SIN IN JESUS NAME

God forgave my sin in Jesus name

Ive born again in Jesus name

And in Jesus name, I come to you
To share his love as He told me to
He said freely, freely you have received
Freely, freely give
Go in my name, and because you believe
Others will know that you live
2

217

All powr is given in Jesus name

In earth and heavn in Jesus name
And in Jesus name I come to you
To share his powr s he told me to

While shepherds kept their watching

Oer wandring flocks by night
Behold from out of heaven there shone a holy light

And lo, when they had seen it

They all bowed down and prayed
They travelled on together to where the babe was laid

When I was a seeker, I sought both night and day

I asked my Lord to help me
And he showed me the way

218
1

King whose name creation thrills

Rule our minds, our hearts our wills
Till in peace each nation rings
With thy praises, King of Kings

King most holy, King of truth

Guide the lowly, guide the youth
Christ thou King of glory bright
Be to us eternal light

Shepherd-King oer mountains steep

homeward bring the wandering sheep
shelter in one royal fold
states and kingdoms, new and old

GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN

Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and evry

where
Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.

GOING HOME
Going home, going home, Im a going home
Quite like, some still day, Im just going home
Its not far, just close by, through an open door
Work all done care laid by, going to fear no more
Mothers there expecting me, fathers waiting too
Lots of folk gathered there, all the friends I knew
All the friends I knew

220

Hark a herald voice is calling

Christ is nigh, it seems to say
Cast away the dreams of darkness
O ye children of the day

Startled at the solemn warning

Let the earth-bound soul arise
Christ, her sun, all sloth dispelling
Shine upon the morning skies

Lo! The Lamb so long expected

Comes with pardon down from heaven
Let us haste, with tears of sorrow
One and all to be forgiven

Honour, glory, virtue, merit

To the father and his Son
With the co-eternal Sprit
While unending ages run

221

Morning star lights the way, restless dreams all done

Shadows gone, break of day, real life just begun
Theres no break, theres no end, just a living on
Wide awake, with a smile, going on and on
Going home, going home, Im a going home
Im just going home, Its not far, just close by
Through an open door, Im just going home

LORD JESUS THINK OF ME

Lord Jesus think on me, and purge away my sin

From earth-born passions set me free
And make me pure within

Lord Jesus think on me, with care and woe oppressed

Let me thy loving servant be
And taste thy promised rest

Lord Jesus think on me, amid the battle strife

In all my pain and misery

Be thou my health and life
4

Lord Jesus think on me not let me go astray

Through darkness and perplexity
Point thou the heavenly way

Lord Jesus think on me when flows the tempest high

When on doth rush the enemy
O Saviour, be thou nigh

Lord Jesus think on me that when the flood is past

I may the eternal brightness see
And share thy joy at last

234

Majesty, worship his majesty

Unto Jesus be glory honour and praise
Majesty, kingdom, authority
Flow from his throne unto his own, his anthem raise
So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the King
Majesty, worship his majesty,
Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all Kings

232
LORD WHO THROUGHOUT THESE 40
DAYS
1

MAJESTY, WORSHIP HIS MAJESTY

Lord who throughout these forty days

For us didst fast and pray
Teach us with thee to mourn our sins
And at thy side to stay

MANY TIMES HAVE I TURNED

Many times I have turned from the way of the Lord
Many times I have chosen the darkness
In the light of the day, when the shadows are gone
All I see is my sin in its starkness
Jesus came to bring us mercy
Jesus came to bring us life again
He loves us, he loves us, he loves us

As thou with Satan didst contend

And didst the victory win
O give us strength in thee to fight
In thee to conquer sin

I confess I have sinned in the sight of the Lord

Through my pride, through my malice and weakness
Ive rejected the promise that comes from the cross
Where the Lord hung above us in meakness

As thirst and hunger thou didst bear

So teach us gracious Lord
O die to self and daily live
By thy most holy word

With a word, with a deed with a failure to act

With thought that was evil and hateful
I confess to you, brothers and sisters of mine
|I have sinned and been proven ungrateful

And through these days of penitence

And through thy Passiontide

Through my fault, though my fault,

I confess to you, Lord all my sinning
But look down on me,
Lord grant your pardon and peace
With your help, Ive a new life beginning

LOVE IS HIS WORD

Love is his word, love is his mark
Feasting with men, fasting alone
Living and dying, rising again
Love only love is his way

236

Mary from thy sacred image

With those eyes so sadly sweet
Mother of Perpetual Succour
See us kneeling at thy feet
In thy arms thy Child thou bearest
Source of all thy joy and hope
What thy bliss, how deep thy sorrows
Mother, thou alone canst know

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord

Better than splendour and wealth
2

Love is his way, love is his mark

Sharing his last Passover feast
Christ at the table, host to the Twelve
Love only love is his mark

MARY FROM THY SACRED IMAGE

237

MORE LOVE, MORE POWER

Love is his way, love is his mark,

Bread for our strength, wine for our joy
This is my body, this is my blood
Love only love is his sign

More love, more power, more of You in my heart

More love, more power, more of You in my heart
1

Love is his sign, love is his news

Do this, he said, lest you forget
All my deep sorrow, all my dear blood
Love, only love, is his news

And I will worship You with all of my heart

And I will worship You with all of my mind
And I will worship You with all of my strength
For You are my Lord, for You are my Lord.

And I will seek Your face with all of my heart

And I will seek Your face with all of my mind
And I will seek Your face You with all of my strength

For You are my Lord, for You are my Lord

241

O SACRED HEAD SURROUNDED

O sacred head surrounded by crown of piercing thorn

O bleeding head so wounded reviled and put to scorn
Our sins have marred the glory of thy most holy face
Yet angel hosts adore thee, and tremble as they gaze

The Lord of every nation was hung upon a tree

His death was our salvation our sins his agony
O Jesus by the Passion, thy life in us increase
Thy death for us did fashion
Or pardon and our peace

242

ON JORDANS BANK

Mary help in pain and sorrow

Soothe those rackd on bed of pain
May the golden light of morrow
Bring them health and joy again

On Jordans bank the Baptists cry

Announces that the Lord is nigh
Come then and hearken for he brings
Glad tidings from the King of Kings

Help our priests, our sisters lowly

Help our Pope, long may he reign
Pray that we who sing their praises
May in Heavn all meet again

Then cleansed be every Christian breast

And furnished for so great a guest
Yea let us each our hearts prepare
For Christ to come and enter there

Mary help the absent loved ones

How we miss their presence here
May the hand of Thy protection
Guard and guide them far and near

For thou are our salvation Lord

Our refuge and our great reward
Without thy grace our souls must fade
And wither like a flower decayed

4.

All praise eternal Son to thee

Whose advent sets thy people free
Whom with the Father we adore
And Holy Ghost for evermore

O COME O COME EMMANUEL

And ransom captive Israel
That mourn in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice, rejoice Emmanuel

From depths of hell thy people save
And give them victry oer the grave

Our spirits by thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night

Send forth your messengers O Lord,

They will spread your light
To all the world around
They will sing of Your glory, Alleluia

REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE DUST

1

You choose us from all time, Your messengers to be

To raise our light aloft for all the world to see

Today we hear Your voice, we hearken to Your call

And joyously we come to bring Your Word to all

Give us Your grace, O Lord to follow where You trod

And thus to spend our days in service to our God

Remember man, dust indeed you are

And it is to dust you shall return
1

SEND FORTH YOUR MESSENGERS

Let us rend our hearts not our garments

And return to the Lord our God
For gracious and merciful is He
Spare your people O Lord,
Give heed to the cry of your priests
Do not silence those who sing your praises

249

SHEPHERD OF SOUL
252

Shepherd of souls, refresh and bless,

Your chosen pilgrim flock
With manna in he wilderness, with water from the rock

2 We would not live by bread alone,

But by the word of grace
In strength of which we travel on, in our abiding place
3 Be known to us in breaking bread. But do not then
depart
Saviour abide with us and spread Your table in our
heart,
4

250
1

Lord dine with us in love divine,

Your Body and your Blood
That living bread that heavenly wine.
Be our immortal food
SHINE JESUS SHINE
Lord the Light of Your love is shinning
In the midst of the darkness shining
Jesus, Light of the World shine upon us
Set us free by the truth You bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Fathers glory
Blaze Spirit blas, set our hearts on fire
Flow river flow, flood the nations with grace and
mercy
Send forth Your word, Lord and let there be light

Lord I come to Your awesome presence

From the shadows into Your radiance
By the blood I may enter Your brightness
Search me, try me consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on Your kingly brightness

So our faces display Your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell Your story
Shine on me, shine on me.

1.

SING OF THE BRIDE

Sing of bride and sing of the groom
And the wine that was flowing free
When the Lord was a guest at the wedding feast
In a town in Galilee
Fill the pots with water and raise the glasses high
For the Lord has come to Cana
And changed water into wine.

2.

Sing of the bride and sing of the groom

And the feasting all night and day
With the wine running short at the wedding fest
To the stewards sad dismay

SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me (2)
Melt me, mould me, use me and fill me
Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me

253

THE ANGEL GABRIEL

The angel, Gabriel from heaven came

His wings as drifted snow his eyes as flames
All hail said he thou lowly maiden Mary
Most highly favoured lady Gloria

For know a blessed Mother thou shall be

All generations laud and honour thee
Thy Son shall be Emmanuel by seers foretold
Most highly favoured lady Gloria

Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head

To me be as it pleaseth God she said
My soul shall laud and magnify his holy name
Most highly favoured lady Gloria

Of here Emmanuel, the Christ was born

In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn
And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say
Most highly favoured lady Gloria

THIS DAY GOD GIVES ME

This day God gives me, strength of his heaven,

Sun and moon shining, flame in my hearth
Flashing of lightning, win in its swiftness
Deeps of the ocean, firmness of earth

This day God sends me, strength in my steersman

Might to uphold me, wisdom as guide
Your eyes are watchful, your ears are listening
Your lips are speaking friend at my side

Gods way is my way, Gods shield is round me

Gods host defends me, saving from ill
Angel of heaven, drive from me always

All that would harm me, stand by me still

4

256

Oh sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble,

tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord

Rising, I thank you mighty and strong One,

King of creation giver of rest
Firmly confession, Threeness of Persons
Oneness of Godhead, Trinity blest
TILL THE END OF MY DAYS O LORD
Till the end of my days O Lord, I will bless your name
Sing your praise, give you thanks, all my days

You have made me little less than a God

And have lavished my heart with your love
With dignity and honour youve clothed me
Given me rule over all

Were you there when they nailed him to a tree (2)

Were you there when they pierced him in the side (2)

Were you there, when the sun refused to shine (2)

Were you there when they laid him in the tomb (2)

Were you there you there when he rose from he tomb

260

WHEREVER YOU GO (Ruths Song)

You have blessed me with good things and plenty

And surround my table with friends
Their love and their laughter enrich me
Together we sing your praise

Wherever you go, I shall go

Wherever you live, so shall I live
Your people will be my people
And your God will be my God too

Your sun and your moon give me light

and your stars show the way through the night
Your rivers and streams have refreshed me
I will sing your praise

Wherever you die, I shall die

And there shall I be buried beside you
We will be together forever
And our love will be the gift of our life

How great is your love O Father

That you sent us your Saviour Son
His death and his rising will heal us
And draw us all unto you

257

261

And it is our love rising from our hearts

Everything within us cries, Abba Father
Help us now to give you
Pleasure and delight
Heart and mind and will that says
I love you Lord
258

WE OFFER YOU O LORD DIVINE

We offer you O Lord Divine,
Our humble gifts of bread and wine
We place them on your altar, Lord today
Make them worthy of your love
Send your blessings from above
Sanctify these gifts O Lord we pray

Redeemer
When will we see him,
when, oh when will se see, him, the
Redeemer

Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel

2.

Long years awaiting,

many years here awaiting the Redeemer!
Ready to greet him,
Always ready to meet him the Redeemer!

3.

from the clutches of evil, O Redeemer!
Though we are sinners
we have known your forgiveness, O
Redeemer!

262

Take all we have make them Thine O Lord
Take all we have O Lord
259

1.

WE ARE HERE TO PRAISE YOU

We are here to praise you, lift our hearts and sing
We are here to give You
The best that we can bring

WERE YOU THERE

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

(2)

WHEN IS HE COMING

WHAT CHILD IS THIS

What child is this, who laid to rest
on Marys lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
while shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Come, greet the infant Lord,
the Babe, the Son of Mary!

2.

3.

263

Why lies he in such mean estate,

Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear: for sinners here
the silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear, shall pierce him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you:
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
the Babe, the Son of Mary!
So bring him incense, gold and myrrh,
come peasant, king, to own him.
The King of kings salvation brings,
let loving hearts enthrone him.
Raise, raise the song on high
The Virgin sings her lullaby:
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
the Babe, the Son of Mary!
HOW GLAD THE SOUND

1.

How glad the sound! The Saviour comes

The Saviour promised long
Let every heart prepare a throne
And every voice a song

2.

He comes the prisoner to release

the captive to set free
to preach the good news to the poor
to make the blind to see

3.

He comes the broken heart to bind

The bleeding soul to cure
And with the treasure of his life
To grace the humble poor

4.

How glad hosannas, Prince of Peace

Your advent shall proclaim
We long for the Parousia
When you will come again

264
1.

2.

3.

So wait with courage and new hope

For Christs Parousia

265
1.

We rise again from ashes,

from the good weve failed to do.
We rise again from ashes, to create ourselves a new.
If all our world is ashes, then must our lives be true,
An offering of ashes, an offering from you.

2.

We offer you our failures, we offer you attempts

The gifts not fully given, the dreams not fully dreamt.
Give our stumbling direction,
give our visions wider view
An offering of ashes, an offering from you.

3.

Then rise again from ashes, let healing come to pain

Though spring has turned to winter,
and sunshine turned to rain.
The rain well use for growing,
and create a world a new
From an offering of ashes, an offering from you.

4.

Thanks be to the Father, who made us like himself

Thanks be to the Son, who saved us by his death.
Thanks be to the Spirit, who creates a world a new
From an offering of ashes, an offering from you.

THIS ADVENT WE AWAIT

This Advent we await Gods reign
when greed and hate shall cease
and kindness dwells in human hearts
and all of us find peace
O god of holiness and grace, illuminate this hour
With hope that we shall see Christs face
When he returns with powr
Awake, my soul and with the sun
Shake off your sloth and rise
Your daily work and duty done
Will be your sacrifice
Redeem your mis-spent time thats past
Improve yourself with care
And live this day as though your last
For Christs return prepare
Rise up, rise now for Jesus Christ:
The strife will not be long
This day the noise of battles heard
The next the Victors song
If sin and self we conquer now
The crown will not be far

1.

O HOLY NIGHT
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Saviors birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Ch. Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!

O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!
2.

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our friend!

3.

Truly He taught us to love one another;

His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!

BORN TO BE A KING

In the town of Bethlehem a child was born

Of the line of David, born to be a king.
An angel came to shepherds in the fields nearby
And this is what he said,
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord.
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord
This will be a sign to you youll find the child
In a humble setting wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Suddenly a host appeared all praising God,
And this is what they said,
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
The shepherds hurried to the site and found the child
With his loving parents lying in the hay.
They told all of their friends about the joy theyd found.
And how the angels said,

For unto you is born this day,

A Savior who is Christ the Lord.
For unto you is born this day,
A Savior who is Christ the Lord
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.
Sing glory to God in the highest,
Peace on earth and goodwill to men.(2)
In the town of Bethlehem a child was born
Born to be our king.
