Division Contest Ice Breaker by Lynette Bunei

Tough Times
There was a little hiccup with my travel documents, and I was forced to defer my trip. That sunny
Friday morning I headed for the Industrial laid back city of Townsville, via Cairns airport. I was
warmly welcomed by the beautiful sights of the Great Barrier Reef and the warm smiles of Area
Governor for Area 2, Allan Carr and his lovely wife Carmillea.
Saturday morning was a little nerve wrecking; participating for the first time in a Divisional
Contest against experienced speakers, and more importantly: the impromptu speeches, which
leave you in suspense, causing your mind to wander far and wide.
There at Last
The conference began with the Table Topics Contest; being the first speaker of 6 speakers in total
was an advantage because I had the pleasure of learning from other experienced speakers. The
tact used as well as the coordination of humor in their mini speeches.
The conference proceeded with Evaluation Contest where one of our very own Area 38
toastmaster Ginia Siaguru took out first place. The Humorous Speech Contest then followed
where Issac Wangatau of Westpac Vaigana took out 2nd place. The highlight of the program was
the International Speech; the room was filled with shy excitement and was quite tense, with only
the sound of the clock ticking.
What I learnt
The exposure was truly a valuable experience and an advantage to building my public speaking
skills. Speaking to Advanced Gold Communicators and being encouraged by them has positively
impacted my zeal for Toastmasters.

Election of Club Officials

A Quiet Affair
The recent election for Officials was a very quiet affair held outside of the official club meeting. On
the 27th of February 2013, 10 members of the Kingstons Corporate Toastmasters club met at the
Manufacturing Toktok Room where Club President Julie Sugoho presided over the event. The
event saw the election of the Vice President Education, Vice President Membership, Vice
President Public Relations, Treasurer and Secretary. The elections ran smoothly where each
official was nominated, nominations closed upon acceptance by the member and each member
was then elected into office by total consensus.

CLUB GOALS

And so we begin
The new Club Officials are Vice President Education Grengnen Giok, Vice President

committee they would like to be a part of. Please contact the sub-committee heads who

Club Officials Training by Julie Sugoho

Improve program to make meetings more
interesting

Training Helps
Training is a vital part in any learning process. Whether it is in a classroom, on a sporting
field or in your workplace, everyone needs training to enhance their skills. As president
of Kingstons Corporate Toastmasters Club, i recently attended a Toastmasters Officer
Training in Port Moresby, hosted by the Westpac Niugini club for area 38. The training
was one of two that was put up by the area for club officers. I was privileged to attend
this training as it was delivered by District 69 Governor, Charlie Starett with the
assistance of David Burston, District 69 Public Relations Officer, who provided a very
informative training on effective speech evaluations.
