The Gathering
• Ephesians 1.10 “ That in the dispensation of the fullness of 
times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, 
both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in 
him:
• The Sound
• What Does Unity Accomplish?
• Acts 2.1,42‐ 44  “And when the day of Pentecost was fully 
come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
• “ And they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine 
and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and 
signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were 
together, and had all things common;

• Acts 4.32‐34a “ And the multitude of them 
that believed were of one heart and of one 
soul: neither said any of them that ought of 
the things which he possessed was his own; 
but they had all things common. And with 
great power gave the apostles witness of the 
resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace 
was upon them all. Neither was there any 
among them that lacked:”

• Acts 5.12‐14 “ And by the hands of the 
apostles were many signs and wonders 
wrought among the people;( and they were all 
with one accord in Solomon’s porch. And of 
the rest durst no man join himself to them: 
but the people magnified them. And believers 
were more added to the Lord, multitudes both 
of men and women.)

• Acts 8.4‐8 “ Therefore they that were scattered 
abroad went every where preaching the word. 
Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and 
preached Christ unto them.
And the people with one accord gave heed unto 
those things which Philip spake, hearing and 
seeing the miracles which he did.” For unclean 
spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many 
that were possessed with them: and many taken 
with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 
And there was great joy in that city.”

Personal Unity
• Spiritual Confusion and the Origin
• Our Understanding
• Based on Two Things
• 1. Holy Spirit draws people unto Jesus, then we make 
a decision whether or not we are going to listen, the 
characterization of His sheep is that they hear His 
voice.  John 10 “ One Shepherd, One Flock”
• 2. Gathering unto Whom? We have found that 
people are rallying around many causes, and some of 
them worthy, but they will never supplant the eternal 
plan of God through Christ Jesus.

Personal Unity
• Several week ago we talked about choosing, we 
decide what we are going to do, there are many 
influences in our lives, and even our own desires 
that are outside the will of God. However if we 
are going to be a part of this “gathering” we are 
left with the choice of being Spirit led and Spirit 
filled. 
• James 4.5 “ Do you think that the scripture saith
in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to 
envy.” 
• Dependence vs. Independence

Personal Unity
• We are learning to walk and live in the Spirit, our 
measure determines our flow. God created us for 
relationship with Him. We need understanding or 
revelation to know that it is His will or His way.
• How we measure is very important to unity
• You see you have discern the nature of this 
gathering for your position to be intact. It must 
be vertical before it can ever be horizontal. It 
starts with me.

• Ephesians 4.13‐15 “ Till we all come in the unity 
of the faith (doctrine), and of the knowledge of 
the Son of God (by the Holy Spirit), unto a perfect 
man, unto the measure of the stature of the 
fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more 
children, tossed to and fro, and carried about 
with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of 
men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in 
wait deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may 
grow up into him in all things, which is the head, 
even Christ:

Personal Unity
• Fact: If you are not in this process, you are 
vulnerable to deception. You see you can’t figure 
it out on your own. You see how unstable we are 
inside of natural spiritual growth, envision trying 
to navigate without the Holy Spirit.
• Fact: Your responsible for your position and your 
position only. When you are in position you are in 
unity with the body. This is why you can’t 
compare yourself with others, they are not the 
measure.

Personal Unity
• Fact: No matter what you say, if your body life 
relationships and not in line with the Word, 
you are having vertical problems which will 
bring disaster to your horizontal relationships.
• God and I are getting along great, but it is all 
these other people that you created and 
called that are messing things up.

Personal Unity
• To have personal unity in the spiritual realm, 
we must have substantial healing inside of the 
church and then healing that has scars behind 
to remind us that the past is real. 
• I hate what sin and the effects of sin has done 
to people. We become products of our 
environment, and the emotional damage that 
people have endured is life long until the 
saving and forgiving grace of God intervenes.

Personal Unity
• When conflict and hurt or controversy comes, if 
we aren’t “filled” we automatically revert back to 
what or who hurt us. We begin to bring that hurt 
back to substantiate our reaction in the now. 
• The original cause of our fear, pain, anger, 
security and grief is dealt with at the cross. 
• Consider the amount of material that our world 
has published on relationships and then ask the 
question, why are they so important.

Personal Unity
• The failure in our world to resolve conflict and 
hurt has left a society that is now becoming 
individualistic and isolated.
• The definition of love has been so distorted 
and defined that the religious world and 
evangelicalism is now using that term as an 
ecuminical term to embrace diversity.
• Diversity is the miracle of the body of Christ
