Luke Breigenzer rejects the shot of North Countrys

Wrangler Jones as the Scotty defense was tenacious in
their impressive win over the Mavericks 66-33 this past
Friday night at the GHS Gymnasium. It was Glasgows
first victory of the season and a much needed one at that.
A balanced scoring attack had Ethan Etchart leading all
scorers with 15 points with Chase Hughes adding 11. Tyler
Hersom, Zach Miller and Cade Myrick had eight points
apiece, Trent Herbert and Bryce Legare seven points

each, and Breigenzer had one bucket. For the Mavericks,

Wrangler Jones knocked down four three-pointers for 12
points, Cache Younkin had nine points, Logan McColly
five, Channing Mavencamp four points, and John McColly
three points. Pictured with Breigenzer and Jones are
Hersom (#5), Myrick (#41) and North Countrys John
McColly. Both of these teams are young; the Scotties
have a pair of seniors in Etchart and Hughes while the
Mavericks dont have a senior on their roster.

The Inaugural Christmas Classics, featuring the

movie Its a Wonderful Life at Valley Cinemas, had
approximately 60 movie-goers in attendance, many of
who were wearing their ugly sweaters.

A total of $315.50 was raised with proceeds going
to the Glasgow Soroptimist Club, and congratulations
to the winner of the ugly sweater contest, Tarin Vandall.

We would like to thank everyone that joined us for
our first annual Christmas Classics event and we look
forward to seeing you all again next year when we bring
you another Holiday Classic to share with you and your
family and friends, said Becky Sallee, adding that next
years Christmas Classic will probably be something
more suited to the kids. Special thanks to Valley Cinemas,
KLTZ/KLAN, BS Buzz, Paul Sallee, and Bob Potter.

When the sun stands still

Winter officially begins tonight at 9:48 P.M. The

word solstice comes from the Latin words for sun and
to stand still. In the Northern Hemisphere, as summer
advances to winter, the points on the horizon where the
Sun rises and sets advance southward each day; the high
point in the Suns daily path across the sky, which occurs
at local noon, also moves southward each day.
At the winter solstice, the Suns path has reached
its southernmost position. The next day, the path will
advance northward. However, a few days before and
after the winter solstice, the change is so slight that the
Suns path seems to stay the same, or stand still. The Sun
is directly overhead at high-noon on Winter Solstice
at the latitude called the Tropic of Capricorn.

Question: Why is there such a time lag between
the shortest day of the year (shortest amount of daylight
hours) and the lowest average daily temperature of the
year?

Answer: This is the shortest day of the year,
meaning the one in which we experience the least
amount of daylight in 24 hours; it is also the time when
the Sun reaches its southernmost point in the sky.
Although this part of Earth is cooling, its great thermal
mass still retains some heat from the summer and fall.
As the gradual cooling process continues over the next
two months, temperatures will continue to fall, and the
coldest temperatures will be recorded. The same pattern
holds true for the summer solstice in June, as the years
highest temperatures are recorded later, in July and
August.

A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.
Steve Martin

Mavs edge Scotty girls

Trailing by double digits late in the first half and

behind 17-8 heading into the third quarter, the Scotty
girls clawed their way back into the ball game and
were behind the North Country Mavericks 30-29 with
37 seconds left in the game with possession of the
basketball.
But the Mavericks held on to win 32-29, thanks
much to Tatum Moore who hit her free throws down
the stretch, connecting on 6-8 in the fourth quarter and
had a game-high 15 points.

For the Scotties, Abbi Kolstad was the flame of that
fourth-quarter comeback that fell just short as she had
nine of her 11 points in the final frame.

Thats all for 2015 as Christmas break is upon us. The
Scotties will be back in action on Saturday, January 2nd
when they host the Poplar Indians. This also happens to
be one of the games Nemont.tv will be covering live.
