1. INTRODUCTION
The design serves for manufacturing and registration of 10 tons mobile Explosive
storage D-10. For the storage the technical description of construction is given, and
attached to this design are certificates for installed materials. Manufacturing of D-10
warehouse is done in facilities of company Dorsan Makina Trml Sanayi Sitesi 63198
Sok. AF-1 Blok No: 46 Mersin / Turkey, fully according to design documents.
2. DESIGN
Design of the D-10 type magazine is realized according to articles of Regulation
87/12028 Regulation on procedures and principles for production, importation,
transportation, preserving, storing, sales, usage, demolition and supervision of
non-monopoly explosive products, hunting materials and similar. of Republic of
Turkey.
According to regulation 87/12028, which is based on the provisions of United Nations
rules and regulations on explosives usage, handling and storage, mobile magazines are
required to be constructed strong enough to securely eliminate any theft or criminal act
and safe and light construction enough to prevent any accidents from the flying particles
in case of an accident. These precursory rules are also followed with instructions about
construction materials to be used which are against fire propagation, with high
resistance to burning (flame resistant) and high capacity of heat isolation and adequate
protection from atmospheric and environmental conditions.
During the design and construction of D-10, above mentioned rules are strictly followed
to comply with the regulation in concern, as explained in the following technical details.

3. DESCRIPTION
10 ton Mobile warehouse D-10 is intended to use for storage of explosive materials for
civil use, danger class 1, in highest quantity of 10 tons. Mobile storage D-10, according
to field possibilities, is installed as near as possible to place of usage, on safe distance
where it will be protected from blasting impacts, and on safe distance from nearby
objects.
Outside dimensions of warehouse dimensions are (L x W x H) 6.660 mm x 2.560 mm x
2.680 mm. It is consisted of two rooms, one for storage of explosive materials, and
second for storage of initiating means, electric or nonelectric detonators.

Frame construction is done from 40x60x3mm rectangular profile, made from stainless
steel. Corners and main body are made of 2.50 mm metal sheet with special folding with
ST-37 arm. External shell is made by ST-37 1.5 mm special metal sheets.
Room for explosives has a volume of 33 m3 (5.500 mm x 2.400 mm x 2.500 mm), which
entirely fulfills conditions for storage of 10 tons of packed explosive materials for civil
use. Way of storage of packages and allowed height of storage charges with explosives
are given on drawing, which is part of this design document. Internal joints between
walls and floor are done in the way that prevents entry of granulated or powder
explosives inside. This way of joints also makes cleaning of interior easier and safe for
the user. Room has two doors dimensions 800x2.000 mm, with trailer type door handle
and locking mechanism. On doors and frames special angled hermetical folding are
installed.
Room for detonators has volume of 6m3 (1.000 mm x 2.400 mm x 2.500 mm), which
entirely fulfills conditions for storage up to 5.000 pieces of electric or nonelectric
detonators, with detonating cap No.8 strength. For storage of detonators wooden
prepared shelves are mounted inside the room. Room has one door dimensions
800x2.000 mm, with trailer type door handle and locking mechanism. On doors and

4.1.

Fire resistance

Mobile storage D-10 is made outside of steel material and from outside there are no
materials that can burn or support fire. Frame is to be be cleaned from oils and dirt in
acid bath prior to painting and will be painted with flame resistant paint. Finishing paint
will again be done with by fire resistant paint.
Doors are made of 2,5mm steel sheet on outer layer and with non-burning plywood
material from inside, to prevent any spark producing metal usage inside the Magazine
compartments. Inside of door are filled with thermal isolation material again with nonburning type.
Inside lining on internal side walls and ceiling will be covered with 8 mm thickness, floor
18mm thickness special non burning material. All joints will be closed with fire resistant
special silicon. Any iron material inside the storage will not be used. All the screws will
be counter ink type and will be covered by special material. Internal painting will be done
with water based painting. Trailer type doors handles and locking mechanisms will be
plastic covered. Explosion resistant door hinges will be used. Walls will be internally
filled with 5cm thick 600 C
heat resistance stone wool, which is pressed to 4 cm. Internal
covering material will be TSE EN 12467 Standard Category A product (Asbestos free,
A1 fire reaction according to EN 13501-1(non-burning, non-melting, stops spreading of
fire), density 1.350 kg/m3, bending resistance 15 N/mm2, chemical and freeze
resistant, waterproof).
To additionally improve fire resistance of storage it is necessary to take measures on
location where storage is installed on the site. In area 5m around storage ground must
be without any plants and graveled with sand, and in area of 10 meters it must be
regularly maintained, mowed and cleaned from any dry and flammable objects.
In close distance near the storage there must be the space for appropriate fire
extinguishers or high pressured firefighting apparatus with foam.

4.2.

Lightning protection grounding

The sole construction of D-10 mobile explosive storage is done in the way that outside
steel cover is the most important protection from atmospheric discharge lightning, but
beside that additional lightning protection is provided. All movable parts (doors) and
protection nets which are not connected to outer steel shield, have additional galvanic
connection with that part of construction. Additionally, four copper antistatic electricity
plates for connection to grounding installations will be installed on bottom corners of the
frame.
Grounding will be done by the copper strips which will be mounted at the perimeter of
the magazine. These copper strips than will be connected from proper locations to the
grounding spikes to ensure effective release of the static electricity.
In addition, there will be copper plated located near the doors of the magazine for
releasing the static electricity before responsible personnel enters to the magazines.
Upon installation of storage, grounding installation must be examined by authorized
institution, before warehouse is putted into operation, and proper minute must be made.

4.3.

Protection from theft and unauthorized entry

Mobile explosive storage D-10 is equipped with three doors dimensions 800 x 2.000
mm, and 3 windows dimensions 500x500 mm located on the doors and protected with
counter grilles to improve safety of ventilation.
Doors outer cover is made from 2,5mm steel plate, and inside lining is chosen to be nonburning plywood to prevent from metal to explosive contact.
Each doors are equipped with trailer type locking arms which should be secured by
heavy duty type padlocks, with copy protected keys.

4.4.

Protection from weather conditions

Explosive storage D-10 is made as a closed box, with outside steel walls of 1,5mm. Roof
is designed in a way that does not allow staying of rain water on top side. Magazine is
also equipped with two rain water discharge pipes located inside two diagonal corners.
Magazines walls internally filled with 5cm thick 600 C
heat resistance stone wool, which
is pressed to 4 cm to increase the density and effectiveness. Internal covering material
will be TSE EN 12467 Standard Category A product (Asbestos free, A1 fire reaction
according to EN 13501-1(non burning, non melting, stops spreading of fire), density
1.350 kg/m3, bending resistance 15 N/mm2, chemical and freeze resistant,
waterproof). This kind of walls and ceiling inner lining is providing temperature insulation,
which is preventing increased heat inside the warehouse, when exposed to high outside
temperatures and direct sunlight.

4.5.

Ventilation

To ensure that ventilation and vapors disposal is done in proper way, on Mobile
explosive storage D-10 ventilation air flow is designed to be done diagonally. D-10
storage is equipped with two units of entry grills and also two units of ventilation
chimneys on the roof will be placed. Doors are equipped with emending system to
provide hermetical closure. Ventilation opening are done in the way that it is not possible
to see the inside of warehouse thru them or not possible to intervene inside the
magazine through these ventilation openings and steel nets are installed to prevent any
fire exposure of explosive materials. In the same time, a second adjustable grill is placed
inside the magazine at the ventilation point to prevent entry of any small animals inside,
such as bugs and cockroaches. On the chimney openings protection is done in the
same way with nets, with additional protection against rainfall.

4.6.

Possibility of displacement

Outside dimensions and weight of D-10 explosive storage are adjusted for transport with
trucks, trailers and semitrailers. For this purpose it will be utilized 40cm height steel legs
of the magazine as connection points which will be used for loading and unloading of
magazines to transportation vehicle, since magazine construction is designed to ensure
secure storage of explosives and prevention of heavy metal pieces to fly away in case of
a possible explosion, load carrying structure of the magazine is enforced at the bottom
frame of the magazine.

5. REQUIREMENTS FOR STORAGE INSTALLMENT ON SITE

10 tons Mobile explosive storage D-10 is intended for temporary storage of explosive
material on appropriate location. Storage can be used on location when responsible
state authorities approve location for temporary storing of explosive materials. To plan
and place temporary storage on location certain minimal safety distance must be
respected. For obtaining approval on full 10 tons capacity, storage must be placed on
following minimal distances:
-

From schools, hospitals, shopping malls, residence buildings, main roads,

railways, airports and places with mass presence of people 478 meters
Village and forest roads 200 meters

Note: safety distance may vary from country to country, because of different regulations.
With installment of barrier made by gravel, safety distances may be reduced up to half.
