RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Research Approach and Method
This research describes the data than to calculate the data. This research did
not employ a statistical procedure. By description, the data will help the readers to
know the borrowing words are founds in the novel. Therefore, this research uses
qualitative method. Wilkinson (2000, p.7) stated qualitative method is participant
observation, unstructured interviews,or life histories are normally regarded as
qualitative research method. The resulting data is presented in the form of quotations
or descriptions, though some basic statistics may also present.
Based on the definition above, the writer can conclude that a descriptive
research is a method that is used to represent a range of activities or to obtain
information focuses on observation to indication, events, or situation. The writer uses
the descriptive qualitative research because of the problems formulation in this
research and the resulting data are presented in the form of descriptions.
3.2 Population and Sample
In doing a research, the writer needs a population and sample, the population
and sample in this research are:
3.2.1 Population
According to Arikunto (2010, p.108), Population is the entire subject of
research. Therefore, the population is a subject that is needed before doing an
analysis in research. The population in this research was taken from students
worksheet.
3.2.2 Sample
According to Levy and Lemeshow (2008, p.1), Sample is a subset of
individuals selected from a large population. From the definition above, it can be
meant that sample is taken from the population. The sample in this research is from
compounds and phrases which occur in student worksheet.
3.3 Instruments
Instrument is a tool in collecting data. The researcher is a key of the
instrumentation process in qualitative research. According to Fraenkel and Hellen
(2012, p.435) state, Qualitative researchers are especially interested in how thing
occur and particularly in the perspectives of the subject of a study. In addition,
Sugiyono (2006, p.15) states that where the researcher is as the key of instrument
