AND HOW!
Dans appetite for rare sneakers, hip hop and collecting cookbooks is
only surpassed by his passion for everything from fast food to ne dining.
Growing up in the suburbs of Sydney with a food-obsessed family
and a mother who fell into owning a Vietnamese restaurant by chance,
Dan went on to become a critically acclaimed chef. He is the inspiration
behind several of Australias most dynamic restaurants, including Sydneys
Mr Wong, Ms Gs and El Loco.
Its Dans potent mix of proud heritage, technical skill and boundless
enthusiasm for experimenting with big, bold, fresh avours that makes
his approach to food unique.
Mr Hong is as much an exploration of Dans colourful path through
life as it is a beautifully illustrated book of more than 100 punchy recipes
Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican all re-imagined and re-invigorated for
a new generation of food obsessives.

Donuts
Tracey Meharg
The humble donut has developed
a serious attitude lately. Its not
just Mexican churros and Italian
zeppole that are turning up on
the caf tables and menus of
some of the worlds premier
establishments. Croissant-donut
hybrids, lemon meringue donuts
and almost-good-for-you paleo
baked donuts are taking the
world by storm. These hot, sticky
delicacies are not hard to make at
home when you know how (no,
you dont need a deep-fryer!).
Featuring recipes for baked and
fried donuts, fancy and simple
(like the basic cinnamon-rolled
delights of your youth), this book
of donuts offers the very best of
tried-and-tested recipes with fifty
mouth-watering variations. Get
them whiletheyre hot!

Colour of Maroc
Rob & Sophia Palmer
Colour of Maroc unveils a
Moroccan cuisine, both traditional
and contemporary, brimming with
flavour. For photographer Rob,
Colour of Maroc is a sketch of
colour and light that captures the
essence of a country far from the
urban beach life of Bondi that he
isfamiliar with. For his wife, Sophia,
it is a journey of rediscovery of her
heritage. Food is their gateway
into the heart of Morocco. Their
passion for Morocco is a delight
to share as they are guided by
Sophias friends and family through
overflowing cities and remote
dusty villages, exploring this
country of vitality and contrasts.
Through their eyes, Morocco
dazzles with life and colour and
offers up an inspiring collection
ofrecipes bursting with flavour.

Byron: Cooking
and Eating
Steven Snow
Byron: Cooking and Eating is a
lavish book about the food and
lifestyle of the iconic Australian
coastal town, Byron Bay, as seen
through the eyes of one of its
favourite chefs and inhabitants.
Join Steven Snow as he immerses
himself in Byrons relaxed way
of life: whether hes chilling out
with friends at Possum Creek, or
lazing in the grass with a beachside picnic. Steven has drawn
inspiration from his extensive
travels to create food that is
nutritious and fresh and, in Byron:
Cooking and Eating, he presents all
of his signature recipes, as well as
the more casual fare that he whips
up at home for friends and family.

tradition that have shaped some of the worlds most popular cuisines. They take the reader into the behind-thescenes world of growers, artisans and chefs, revealing how their passion for their work helps maintain and reinterpret
the traditions and flavours of a nations cuisine. More than a hundred recipes are featured, selected to best reflect
the unique characteristics of each countrys food. Lavishly illustrated with location photographs as well as images
offinished dishes and authentic cooking techniques, the World Kitchen series is a source of inspiration for the cook
and an evocation of places many people will remember from their travels and others will yearn to savour.

Brett Hilder
A distillation of the visual and
written notebooks kept during
a lifetime of travel by Australian
photographer Brett Hilder, this
book is a poetic journal and
philosophical travelogue. It is an
evocation of a journey through
lands of Spanish culture in the
Mediterranean and Latin America,
and to Eritrea in Africa, as well as
a meditation on the ties that bind
him to his homeland. Hilders
words form a background to
astonishing images of people
and landscapes.

Still Life
Jane Ussher & Nigel Watson
Still Life is a unique, hauntingly beautiful photographic
study of the Antarctic huts that served as expedition
bases for explorations led by Captain Robert Falcon
Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton. At the turn of the
twentieth century, Antarctica was the focus of one
of the last great races of exploration and discovery.
In an era known as the heroic age, from 1895 to 1917
Antarctic explorers set off from their huts in search of
adventure, science and gloryalthough some, such as
Scott, were never to return. The World Wars intervened
and the huts were left as time capsules of Edwardian
life. Jane Ussher was invited by the Antarctic Heritage
Trust to record the unusual, the hidden and minutiae
of these sites. The Executive Director of the Trust,
Nigel Watson, provides a fascinating introduction to the
history and description of the atmosphere of each hut.

garden
at Wychwood, at the foot of the

GreatWestern Tiers in northern Tasmania, is one
of the worlds most magical places. It combines
Scandinavian design sensibilities with temperateclimate country-garden charm. Wychwood
commemorates a garden over 22 years in the
making, brought to life by a very special family
who dreamt of the simple life in Tasmania. The
book details the evolution of the garden from bare
paddock to world-class attraction, with its iconic
labyrinth, espaliered fruit trees, naturalistic planted
beds and curved, clipped lawns. It gives the reader
insight into the techniques and secrets that make
the design of this garden so successful, offering
inspiration and encouragement at every turn, and
for every level of gardener. Peter Coopers beautiful
and haunting photography captures how the garden
hastransformed with the changing seasons and
settled into its surroundings.

Myles Baldwin
Respected landscape designer
Myles Baldwin believes that for
the success of any period garden
design, consideration of both
architecture and garden to achieve
an integrated whole is vital.
InPeriod Gardens, he discusses
his approach by drawing on
examples of garden case studies
from the UK, Europe and Australia,
identifying the defining features
of the major design eras, from
theRenaissance and English Arts
and Crafts to Victorian, Art Deco
and Modernist.

Quilting
Sarah Fielke
Mastering the variety of quilting
techniques can be a challenge,
but this vibrant and beautifully
photographed book, brimming
with Sarahs insider tips, provides
the quilter with an accessible way
to try out new methods, textures
and colours, and in the process
build upon their skills. Sarah has
designed ten pairs of quilts that
each provide a lesson in quiltmaking. These beautiful quilts, big
and small, provide the opportunity
to practise traditional quilting
techniques, such as creating
wedges and flying geese blocks,
and experiment with new, less
conventional methods, such as
deconstructed piecing. Sarah also
shares her needle-turn appliqu
and hand-quilting techniques,
which give her quilts their
contemporary and unique style.

Baby Journal
Having a baby is one of lifes greatest adventures.
Every day theres something new to observe and enjoy
and its easy for time to pass without getting around to
keeping a record of the magic moments in an infants
development. Added to that, there are myriad tasks
for new parents to take on board and work into their
routine. This journal is both a book in which to record
significant events in the first year of a childs life and
a source of sound, practical advice about the day-today things that need to be done. Theres information
on basic topics such as nutrition, teething and babyproofing the home, with plenty of lists to keep track
of essential information. Plus there are beautiful craft
projects for the knitter and stitcher. This gorgeous
journal will become an important keepsake.

The Roots of
Civilisation
John Newton
They feed us, shelter us, cure us
and clean the air that we breathe.
The Roots of Civilisation takes
a closer look at the plants that
most of us take for granted, but
which have changed the world, for
better and for worse. The Roots of
Civilisation looks not only at the
better known world-changers like
opium, tobacco, cotton and the
orchid, but also at humbler flora
that have quietly but profoundly
shaped human civilisation.
