Guided since our founding in 1912 by the missionary vision of the Paulists, committed to the mission of
Jesus, and dedicated to be welcoming to all, we, the community of St.
Philip Neri, strive to reach out, to reconcile and to promote unity for all
Gods creations through worship, education, and service toward the
common good.

SECOND COLLECTION TODAY
PAULIST APPEAL
We welcome Fr. Frank Desiano this weekend to deliver
the annual Paulist Appeal. The Paulist Appeal is the
annual fund drive to support the core ministries of the
Paulist Fathers. Your donation to the Appeal enables the
Paulists to evangelize to North America, especially those
who are searching for a Church home. Please be as
generous as you can to say thank you for the work of the
Paulist Fathers to our community and Portland for over
100 years and for their continued ministry in the years to
come.

ADULT ED SURVEY
Please take a few moments to complete and return the
Adult Ed survey that was in the bulletin a couple weeks
ago. This will help know what you are interested in to
plan programs. Extra copies are on the counter in the
back of the church.

SEAFOOD DINNER MEETING

Our first meeting will be held after the French Toast
Breakfast today, Jan. 17 in Carvlin Hall. We are
excited to begin planning for St. Philips' 2nd Annual
Seafood Dinner. We are looking for a team for set-up and
tear-down, kitchen help, food prep, greeters, etc. If you
have any questions please feel free to contact Tina Marie
Jarvis at tinagattojarvis@gmail.com or Barbara Masvidal at
masvidal@spiritone.com.

FRENCH TOAST BREAKFAST TODAY

Our monthly French Toast Breakfast is this weekend after
the 9:30am Mass. Join us for the wonderful French toast
and sausage and meet and greet old friends and make a
few new ones.

PEACE & JUSTICE MEETING TODAY

Peace & Justice will meet during the French toast breakfast
this weekend. We will be discussing homeless housing, the
prospects of welcoming a Syrian Refugee family into our
community, and the Popes encyclical on the environment

Pastoral Corner
Greetings!
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity throughout the world
January 18-24, 2016
The idea of a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity started in 1908. It has undergone many changes but continues to
be an Ecumenical priority for many of the mainline Christian religions. If you are interested in the history and support
of this effort you can find it at Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute (GEII.org) on the internet. Another
really good source worth your time: www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teaching/ecumenical-and-interreligious/on-the-pathtoward-christian-unity.cfm.
The theme for this year "Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord" is found in the First Letter of Peter.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, a people claimed by God for his

own, to proclaim the glorious deeds of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous
light. (2:9)

Baptism opens up an exciting new journey of faith, uniting each new Christian with Gods people throughout the
ages. From these particular verses, we hear of Gods calling us into salvation history---we have received mercy---we
have entered into a spiritual lifestyle of faithfulness with God---we have accepted a covenant to proclaim his love and
eternal life thru the Resurrection of Jesus. As Christians seeking the unity of the Body of Christ-- we are all called to
recognize the mighty acts of God in our own lives, in the life of our Church and in the faiths of other people.
During this coming week we might reflect on this Great Family of God and ask ourselves how we can promote the
Grace of Healing:
*Am I ready to share my experience of God with other people?
*How can I be more accepting of other peoples religions in my life?
*How can I actively support our Archbishop in being more involved in ecumenical experiences?
*How can I promote mutual hospitality (prayer opportunities, shared music gatherings, service to those in need,
common concerns of our neighborhoods. . .) amongst the churches in our parish area?
Deo Gratias,

Barbara M. Harrison

CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS CAMPAIGN

Next week, our parish will take up the Collection for the Catholic
Communications Campaign. This collection communicates the Gospel
through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through
television, radio, social media, podcasts, and print media. Half of all
proceeds remain in our archdiocese and support local needs, so please be
generous in this collection.

NEW YEARS WISH LIST

We have a short wish list of items needed by the parish. The wish list is: 1)
piano cover for the spinet that is now in Carvlin Hall; 2) hand rails for the two
side altars- tabernacle and Blessed Mother - to make them safer. If you are
interested in contributing to either of these items, please contact Fr. Charlie
or Jeanne McPherson in the business office, 503-231-4955.
We are waiting for a bid on the handrails and will let you know when we
have a price.

A WORD FROM SERVANT OF GOD ISAAC HECKER,

FOUNDER OF THE PAULIST FATHERS
They will give to the truths and underlying human reason an accentuation
which the one-sidedness of rationalists renders them incapable of giving. They
will encourage all investigations in the natural order. The torch of the natural
sciences, unfortunately snatched from the hands of the Church, will be
recovered. Religion, true Religion, alone nourishes the genius of true science
and art. [On the Mission of New Religious Communities, 1876]
If you have asked Father hecker to pray for you or another person who is ill, and you
believe something miraculous has happened, please phone Fr. Paul Robichaud, CSP at
202-269-2519 and tell him your story.

Please pray for:

Mary Ellen Doshas Meucci Louis Wolfe Sr. Eileen Brown
Chris Helvey Ly Do Paulist Seminarians
[Know someone we should pray for? Contact Rose in the office.]
