IEC 60068-3-5

Title is Confirmation of the Performance of Temperature

Chambers.
Applies
to
temperature
chambers
used
for

environmental conditioning or environmental testing.

environmental conditioning or environmental testing

means exposure to environments under which
components or equipment are to be assessed.

Scope of IEC 60068-3-5

To provide a uniform and reproducible method for

testing temperature chambers.
Test to be conducted under no load condition.

Some Definitions

Temperature Test Chamber

Enclosure where required temperature condition can be achieved

Temperature Set Point

Desired temperature set in chamber

Achieved Temperature
Temperature in working space after chamber becomes stable

Temperature Stabilisation
Temperature in working space maintained within a tolerance from
the set point

Working Space

Portion of the chamber where the required condition can

be kept within the tolerances.

Temperature Fluctuation

After temperature inside chamber becomes stable.

The difference between the maximum and minimum

temperature at any point within the working space
measured for a specified time period.

It is a measure of the stability of the chamber with

respect to time.

Test should be performed under standard atmospheric

conditions.

Chamber not exposed to direct sunlight

Chamber not exposed to EMI

Chamber should be leveled

Chamber should be free from vibrations

Manufacturers advice on power and environmental

conditions should be noted.

Measurement Period

Due to the design of the temperature controller, the

temperature of a chamber will exhibit cyclic behaviour.
There will be some up and down temperature fluctuation
around the set point. The measurement period should
be adequate to cover at least two cycles.
