Orientation and Registration. Later that day there was a picnic up on Doi Sutep, the mountain at the western edge
of Cliiangmai.
Orientation began with an exhortation to the students by CBI President
Peter Sutjaibun. Walt Prevost, Academic Dean, explained various matters pertain
ing to classes. Jerry Headen spoke about scholarships. Poyon, Dean of Students,
helped the students understand the student rules. On Saturday 12 June, the
Orientation continued as Mary Parkhurst explained the procedures for using the
CBI library.
Our Student Body consisted of 23 students on the day we began classes, 14 June. All 23
showed up for the picture in front of the CBI building. From left to right you can identify
the ethnic groups among our students; four Lahu, five Hmong, three Lisu, one
Akha, one Karen, three Thai, three Rawang, three Ngochan. Some of them are
wearing their traditional clothing. Count themthere are eight different ethnic
groups! At the same time that we were taking the picture outside, Tom Love,
one of our fellow missionaries in Chiangmai, was helping Naisombaht, a new
student whom he had brought, to fill out his
apphcation to enroll in CBL He is Chinese and
Yao, bringing to ten the number of ethnic
groups in our student body. As of this
writing, a former student, Lisu, has arrived
and wants to resume his study with us. That brin^ to 25 the number of students,
including eight new students and two returnees. It is satisfying to have new stu

President Peter began the year with the new students by teaching Acts. At
the same time our advanced students were taught Evangelism by Teng Vang, a
Hmong visitor from CBS in Cincinnati. Karen Edwards, another visitor from CBS,
