To begin, Id like to explain why I believe so deeply in what I do and why

there is a need to change the way we view disease. It started with my
own chronic tonsillitis. When I was young, I often had swollen tonsils
and once swollen, I would be struck down by high fevers, headaches,
and earaches. When my condition got really bad, I was not able to
swallow. I received treatment at a number of hospitals and tried several
well-known drugs, but never saw significant improvement.

In Western medicine, the tonsils are not considered vital to the body and
removal is common as a way to prevent future infections. But something
inside me hesitated to take this step and when I entered the College of
Oriental Medicine at Kyung Hee University in Seoul in 1966, I began
searching through book after book for treatments. For years I chased
around an endless circle of ideas about cures without any clear answers.
After graduation, I opened my own Korean medicine practice but felt
ashamed. Here I was a legitimate doctor of Korean medicine, but I had
to visit a Western doctor for my own health problems. This shame

fueled my desire to find a cure, and out of pure desperation I spent late
nights researching, telling myself that I would have no regrets when I
died if I could only find a treatment. After nearly 10 years of trial and
error, I came up with the herbal formula that I now call PyunkangHwan. This formula reduced the inflammation in my tonsils, greatly
improved my immunity, and at one moment in 1972, I realized that I
had been cured. I began offering the formula to my patients and as the
number of successful cases piled up, I made Pyungkang-Hwan public. In
2006, the formula passed a toxicology analysis by an FDA-certified
institution and was confirmed
as safe.
Over the past 42 years, I have seen more than 155,000 patients cured
with this formula and certain systematic healing
protocols.

Medicine That Makes You Healthy

In Oriental medicine, the human body is considered to have all the
elements of the universe. So the starting point of Oriental doctors is that
while the body is mysterious, it is also regulated by profoundly logical
principles. Oriental doctors make different causal connections than
Western doctors, so complex chronic conditions often have traceable
causes and can be healed.
Although modern medicine has undeniably made extensive
contributions toward the treatment of disease, it is only just developing
the field of functional medicine, and by and large is not well equipped to
help patients overcome chronic conditions.
For example, lets look at patients with high blood pressure, diabetes,
and atopic allergies. Blood pressure, diabetes, and atopic medications
act definitively, accurately, and promptly to lower the blood pressure
and blood sugar levels, and stop asthma attacks.
However, while these synthetic drugs are good at alleviating specific
symptoms, they never fully cure the disease.
Once you start them, in the majority of cases, you have to take these
drugs for the rest of your life. After about 10 years, you will be taking
multiple drugs at a time because their results have become less effective
and your illness has been aggravated because its root cause has not
been addressed. As this cycle continues, your body will become
extremely fatigued. The continuation of such a state will markedly
degrade your enjoyment of life and your will to live.
That patients are gradually and incrementally led toward death from the
toxicity of chemical drugs is an undeniable aspect of modern medicine
that we cannot afford
to ignore.

Side Efects
This destructive cycle is perpetuated by a serious misconception about

how harmful synthetic drugs are. Modern medicine refers to damage in

the body arising from synthetic drugs as side effects. Patients accept
side effects as necessary evils because of their perception these are
incidental phenomenon that unavoidably occur when you take
prescription drugs and the damage they do is outweighed by the benefits
they bring.
However, side effects is a rather diminutive and simplistic term for
health conditions that range from mildly uncomfortable to life
threatening.
I believe the damage done by synthetic drugs would more accurately be
referred to as adverse reactions because this term makes clear that the
human body is in fact being harmed by the drug itself.
One can think of Western medicines side effects as the reactions of
people whose heads have been forced under water; well refer to them as
victims. As soon as their air is cut off, the victims will resist the person
forcing their heads under water by lashing out with their arms and legs.
Why? The victims are reacting against the force thats drowning them.
With all their might theyre trying to breath in order to live.
I liken the damage done to the body by synthetic drugs to the attempt to
drown the victim. The reactions our bodies have to them are the frantic
struggles to survive.
Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, our bodies are continuously
responding to the external environment, trying to maintain the
conditions it needs to survive. When an inappropriate synthetic drug,
which is artificial material unfamiliar to our bodies, is put into our
systems, our bodies become highly tense. The next time the same drug is
taken, it will elicit an even more severe rejection response.
The FDA reports that there are over 2 million serious adverse reactions
to medicinal drugs in the United States, and that 100,000 people die
every year due to these reactions.
I dont think we should accept these adverse reactions without objecting,
our bodies deserve and can have much better.
As I see it, many patients have become enslaved to synthetic drugs.
As a counterpoint to this cycle of dysfunction and enslavement, Id like to
propose the concept of a complete cure of body.
This is a concept Ive been studying for the past 42 years and using
systematic treatment principles Ive seen around 155,000 patients
become completely cured of skin, lung, and inflammation conditions,
some of which are considered incurable.
There are two key components to completely curing the body: One is
understanding the cause of disease, and the other is strengthening the
immune system.
When the body is treated with natural medicines that are optimized for
overall wellbeing, the body greets them with open arms as though

meeting a long-cherished friend. And though these medicines lack the

immediate magic of their synthetic counterparts, they can ultimately
restore vibrant health.
In this series I will share my secrets of Korean medicine, which I
learned and experienced over the 42 years of watching the curing
process unfold for more than a hundred thousand patients. In the next
article, I will discuss how the lungs are key to immunity and restoration
of the body.

The key for mankinds preparation for the coming era of viruses lies in
the lungs. Once this fact is acknowledged, it becomes surprisingly easy
to open the door to the once locked-up excellent health of mankind.
In taking care of our automobiles, we change the oil filters regularly. In
the lungs, we have organs that filter out the waste matter from the air we
breathe, preventing that waste from reaching the heart, which pumps

oxygen to all parts of the body. In overlooking the lungs, we have failed
to imagine the unlimited miracles possible when the lungs are cleansed.
I remember the words of Alonzo Clarke, a professor in the 19th century
at the New York College ofPhysicians and Surgeons. He said that all
drugs taken for the treatment of disease are toxins thatdegrade the
vitality of the body. Clarke believed that we are hurriedly sending many
patients, whoare likely to recover on their own when their health is left
in natures hand, to their graves.
Hippocrates, the father of medicine, said the real doctor is within our
body. According to him, diseases that the doctor within ourselves cannot
heal cannot be cured even by the most reputeddoctor. Hippocrates
believed disease is the process in which restoration, the healing ability
ofnature, is applied.
Why have these doctors come to such conclusions? What are the
implications behind their wordsfor the direction that modern medicine
should take?
When the functions of the lungs, the filters for the health of our bodies,
are fortified, it is possible to cleanly discharge all the toxic and waste
matter accumulated in our bodies. When the lungs are fortified, the
restoration function, which is the foremost function of the immune
system, will become fully activated.
Restoration refers to the force that seeks to return things to their original
state when an external force disrupts the equilibrium among all the
things in the universe. At the level of the body, when it loses normal
vitality and the internal balances have been damaged due to external
factors, the bodys disrupted balance can be restored by maximally
enhancing pulmonary function. This will raise the restoration function
of the immune system to its maximum level.
The functioning of the immune system at its maximum level results in
restoration of the innate state of health one is born with and enables the
complete cure of the diseases one is suffering. When the four major
immune functions of the body, namely, memory, defense, purification,
and restoration, are fully exercised, the body will be equipped with the
weapons it needs to combat and overcome the attack of any virus.

Throughout my past 42 years of clinical experiences, I have observed

countless cases in which people are inflicted with numerous diseases
when the pulmonary functions become degraded. I have also witnessed
the complete cure of these diseases when the pulmonary functions have
been restored to their original levels.
According to my clinical observations, only the improvement of the
pulmonary functions can make the arrhythmia that a patient has
suffered for more than a decade or the cause of strokeauricular
fibrillationdisappear. Then the patient could stop taking the angina
medication he had been taking for more than 10 years.
Although I had thought that only the lungs had become healthier, the
extensive improvements that followed the improvement in the lungs
health could indeed be called a miracle. All these were the results of the
amazing power of cleansing the lungs.
The key to eradicating and overcoming the virus that invaded your body
is not out there; it is already in your body and only needs to be realized.
However, mankind has lived throughout its entire history unaware of the
need to cleanse the lungs. We have been completely ignorant of the fact

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1890254-secrets-of-korean-medicine-part-2-a-simple-survival-strategy-for-mankind-in-the-era-of-viruses/[27/11/2015 22:23:11]

that the lungs in our bodies also need to be cleansed like we regularly
replace the oil filter in our cars. We urgently need to realize this now.
We can be graced with the maximum restoration power of our bodies, a
magnificent ability of life, when the pulmonary functions are
maintained at their best state. The true hidden capabilities of immunity
that we refer to as the restoration power will become a message of hope
to mankind confronted with the despair caused by arduously battling
countless diseases.
When the restoration capability of our bodies, which is the foremost
function of immunity, is enhanced through cleansing the lungs, it is
possible to attain longevity with excellent health that mankind has been
dreaming of. I have dedicated my entire life to research aimed at the
realization of such a dream. At last, I am declaring to all of mankind that
this dream can be realized through the power of natural medicine,
rather than through chemical drugs.

The skin is the single largest organ in our body with a total weight that is
two times that of the brain. As the first line of defense, it prevents the
penetration of pathogens into the body, helps adjust body temperature,
and is equipped with various sensors including tactile sensors, pressure
sensors, pain sensors, and hot and cold sensors.
And it also breathes! Close examination of the skin surface reveals that
there are a very large number of pores on the skin. When the skin is
spread out, its total area is on average around 194 square feet, and each
square inch contains on average 65 hair follicles, 100 sebaceous (oil)
glands, 650 sweat glands, more than 1,500 nerve receptors, as well as a
countless number of nerves. These are not just sitting there idle, on the

This waste matter can be categorized into two main types, namely, water
soluble and fat soluble waste. Water (aqueous) waste is discarded
through the sweat glands, while fatty (lipid) waste is discarded through
the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. The skin collects and discards
these two types separately, playing the role of an exhaust pipe that
ceaselessly discards accumulated waste.

When The Exhaust Pipe Is Blocked

What happens when ones exhaust pipe becomes blocked? When one is
stressed, the hair follicles close, and when one does not exercise or
sweat, the sweat glands dont fully discharge their waste. After a
prolonged period this waste and the toxic substances will accumulate
under the skin, which results in various skin diseases.
Water waste and fatty waste must both be discharged from the body, not
only to keep the skin clean but also to maintain the health of the body. If
they accumulate under the skin, body heat cannot be released and
increased temperature can become toxic. Accumulation of toxic heat will
manifest as eczema while accumulation of fat will result in acne.
Sedimentation of pigment will result in freckles or age spots.[Editors

How Healing the Lungs Heals the Skin

Although the manifestation of skin diseases takes various forms, I
believe there is only one causethe accumulation of waste and toxic
substances in the body.
Since the cause is the same, the principles for treatment are also the
same. We simply need to detox these substances by opening up the
blocked sweat glands and hair follicles.

To open up the sweat glands, you just need to take a sauna or steam
bath, or exercise strenuously enough to sweat. If this is not possible,
bathing of the lower body in warm water can do the trick.
The key to opening blocked hair follicles lies in the lungs. If we consider
the total quantity of breathing of the body to be 100 percent, the lung
accounts for 95 percent while the skin accounts for 5 percent of the total
breathing. Accordingly, the lung can be seen as the headquarters and
the skin as its branch offices. Improvement of the headquarters will
benefit the branch offices, therefore when the major respiratory organ,
the lungs, become healthier, then the minor respiratory organ, the skin,
will also become healthier and the blocked hair follicles will be opened.
The result of unblocking both the sweat glands hair follicles is not only
the restoration of healthy skin but also excellent health of the entire
body.

SLICE OF LIFE

Breathing is not simply the process of discarding carbon dioxide and

taking in oxygen, but also an important metabolic process of discharging
noxious matter from the body and taking in favorable substances.
Therefore, only when the lungs are healthy, will the body be able to
completely discharge waste matter.
Using these principles, I have managed to fully cure more than 40,000
eczema patientspatients of all ages, genders, and countries, over the
last 42 years. As a result, I am able to confidently state that, all skin
diseases including eczema can be only cured when the waste matter
accumulated underneath the skin is discarded.

Why Steroids Dont Help

The modern medical treatment for severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) is
steroids, and since sweating can temporarily inflame eczema, doctors
may tell you to avoid sweating too much.
But in my experience, steroids only temporarily pacify eczema and can
worsen it later on and sweating, although it may seem to make it worse
in the short term, will actually help heal it.
When steroids are used, skin that has been badly damaged due to
eczema will initially seem to heal. However, within a year the symptoms
will come back. Since the initial treatment was so effective, patients
assume it will work just as well again. But this is not the case because
steroids make sweat glands and hair follicles close tightly temporarily
stopping waste from being discharged from the body.
Since the itchiness of eczema is caused by the discharge of accumulated
toxins, and steroids prevent this discharge, they will stop he itching.
However, the underlying condition has not been improved.
As the dose of steroids isincreased, waste accumulates in enormous
quantities and will eventually penetrate deeper into the body.
When waste enters the bones, it kills cells necessary to form bones
(osteoblasts) resulting in osteoporosis. Steroid use can also cause
diabetes and high blood pressure.
If a person has been using steroids and has all three of these conditions,
I consider that they are addicted to steroids.
Although it is possible to fully cure a normal eczema patient within six
months through the herbal Pyunkang-Hwan medicine I developed, it
will take patients with severe steroid addiction more than three and half
years to cure their eczema completely. These patients often have very
severe detox symptoms and need hospitalization to help them cope. So,
I emphasize once again that steroids must not be used under any
circumstances whatsoever for eczema.
Those who use synthetic drugs are put at greater risk of developing
allergies because our bodies reject them.
When the immune system frequently rejects something, it will eventually
lose its discerning ability and come to react very sensitively to the

substance when it encounters it again.

There is an old saying in Korean, A child who has been burned dreads
fire, and due to repeated rejection of synthetic substances, the body will
end up rejecting even the natural substance that it encounters, thinking
it is also a synthetic drug.
When the function of the lungs and heart improve, the discerning ability
of the immune system improves markedly.
This in turn will produce healthy lymphocytes that seek and clean all the
toxic matter throughout the body, and nurture the ability to eradicate
harmful germs and viruses that invade the body. Once the immune
system is able to distinguish between self and foreign substances, it is
possible to overcome not only eczema, but also other various allergic
diseases with ease.

Today there has been rapid advancement in functional cosmetics, plastic

aimed at slowing the aging process and maintaining youthful skin is
currently growing rapidly at the rate of 11 percent per year. Moreover,
the medical skincare device market is expected to grow at the rate of 7.4

Many women are willing to pay high prices for the hope of firm, silkysmooth skin and as part of their daily skin care routines, use expensive
cosmetics that block UV rays, whiten, regenerate, and reduce wrinkles.
Many women also undergo procedures like filler injections, Botox, face

Since the symptoms of the skin diseases are highly visible, people have
the tendency to quickly resort to drugs and ointments in order to get rid
of them as fast as possible. With many of these treatments, the skin
appears to improve almost immediately but after several weeks can
become even more aggravated, causing the patient to seek higher doses
of the same medications.

Higher doses can again produce improvements but symptoms will

more blood.
Moreover, she obtained an unexpected benefit. Although she only
intended to cure her lung disease, the appearance of her skin improved
remarkably, to the point that her colleagues asked what her skin care
secret was.
And hers is not an isolated case. I have experienced countless patients in
my career whose skin improved when their pulmonary diseases were
properly treated. If this connection seems puzzling, youll see the reason
when you take a little bit deeper look into the principles of Korean
medicine.

Cause Versus Manifestation

When there is a problem in the body, it will manifest outwardly.
Symptoms that manifest on the skin indicate problems beneath and
thus are the results rather than causes of the problem. So it is
necessary to remove the causes in order to eradicate the problem at its
root.
An important fact is that areas of manifestation differ depending on the
part of the body where the problem occurs. In Oriental medicine the
lungs are one of the five major organs and the skin is the body part that
corresponds to them. From thisviewpoint, the skin is the mirror that
reflects the condition of the lungs so by cleansing the lungs you cleanse
the skin. [Editors note: Korean medicine draws its foundational
principles from Chinese medicine thus we use Oriental medicine when
a reference pertains to both.]
The lungs ensure harmonious circulation and communication between
the internal and external by fully opening tightly closed hair follicles and
sweat pores. A large part of this communication is the inhalation of
energy with the breath and the discharge of waste with the exhalation.
If there is excessive, repeated stress or irritation to the skin and scalp, it
will affect the lungs, resulting in degradation of pulmonary function.
As I said in article 3, I believe that although the symptoms of skin
diseases are different, they have the same fundamental cause. They
manifest due to the accumulation of waste and toxic substances
underneath the skin.
Since there is only a single cause, there also is a single treatment
method. Discharging this waste will cure skin diseases. Opening sweat
pores and the follicles of body hair will help this detox process.
To open sweat pores, exercising, taking a sauna or steam bath, and
bathing the lower body in warm water are effective methods. However,
this alone does not cure skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis,
which can only be eliminated when body hair follicles are also fully
opened for a prolonged period of time.

Healthy Tonsils for Healthy Skin

Breathing fresh air helps clean the lungs. (MISFIRE_ASIA)

When lung function is degraded, this will aggravate the tonsils, which
are the first line of defense of the body. When the tonsils are impaired,
an extensive range of pathological germs will be able to infiltrate the
body and induce various skin diseases and diseases of the respiratory
system.
Therefore, reinforcing pulmonary function in order to achieve healthy
tonsils is the key. When the tonsils are healthy, healthy lymphocytes (a
type of white blood cell) will be produced to fight off harmful germs.
Moreover, the immune ability and self-healing ability of the body will be
maximized, which will allow the body to fundamentally cure incurable
skin diseases like eczema and psoriasis.

The Road to Healing Can Be Rough

The process and appearance of the skin discarding the toxic substances
is extremely diverse. Cleaning is completed after the patients skin
undergoes various stages including itchiness, scaliness, sores, and

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1900214-secrets-of-korean-medicine-part-4-the-skin-is-the-mirror-of-the-lungs/[27/11/2015 22:24:07]

discharge from the sores. So there is a need for some measure of

endurance by the patient. However, patients should remember that
these stages are like a river to be crossed and a mountain to be climbed,
not easy to do but beautiful skin waits on the other side.
The principles Ive described above may seem very simple, however, it
took me a long time, and much research and clinical observation to
realize them.
In the course of my work I have seen several tens of thousands of
patients suffering from incurable skin diseases be completely cured
using them. So I can now say with certainty that it is possible to treat all
skin diseases by fully discarding waste under the skin and thus
restoring, the health of the lungs.
So imagine the complete disappearance of your age spots, acne, eczema,
psoriasis, and more after the lungs have been cleaned and the beauty of
your skin fully restored. How joyous this would be!

Our bodies naturally produce steroids that keep us healthy, but synthetic steroids push toxins deeper into our bodies.
(HALFPOINT/iStock)

In the last two columns, I explained the principles of treating and fully
curing skin diseases like eczema. In this column I will explain why
corticosteroids, which are widely used to treat skin problems, actually
degrade the health of many patients and never completely cure them.
First, its important to understand how corticosteroids work.
Corticosteroids mimic adrenal hormones, which reduce inflammation
by suppressing immune function.
The adrenals are two triangular glands that sit on top of the kidneys.
Each adrenal is divided into two distinct parts, an external part, the
cortex, and an inner portion, the medulla. The cortex is responsible for
regulating immune function and does this partly by producing cortisol,
an anti-inflammatory hormone, that is a natural corticosteroid.

Although the natural corticosteroids produced by our body have no side

effects, synthetic steroids are inevitably accompanied by side effects.

When the human body is put under stress, it responds by declaring a

state of emergency. First, adrenalin is released, followed minutes later
by cortisol. Cortisol helps maintain vital functions like blood pressure
but suppresses functions that are not immediately vital like immunity
and digestion. However, if your stress is chronic, the state of

emergencycontinues along with its powerful immune suppression and

anti-inflammation.
This powerful anti-inflammatory function is the reason why
corticosteroids are widely used as drugs for inflammatory skin
conditions like eczema.
But the problem is that majority of diseases induce inflammation as a
self-defense mechanism, and inflammation is what helps our body
combat pathogens. Synthetic corticosteroids excessively suppress the
inflammatory action of the immune system, which results in temporary
appearance of improvement in inflammatory conditions like rashes.
However, they also allow pathogens to go in deeper into the body
because the body counts on its normal defense mechanisms to eradicate
the pathogens.
Thus, continual use of steroids will stymie the function of the immune
system, promoting the proliferation of pathogens and aggravating
infection.
If steroids are used for prolonged periods, the body will be completely
wrecked due to a labyrinth of serious side effects, including increased
blood pressure, skin lesions and discoloration (atrophoderma), obesity,
facial swelling, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, cataracts,
osteoporosis, and more.

In the modern era, many people are very busy and impatient. They have
the tendency toseek drugs that work quickly and visit the hospital for
minor ailments. Pain reduction, symptom pacification, antibiosis, and
anti-inflammation are four major aims of modern medicine, and
steroids are the most powerful anti-inflammatory drugs mankind has
developed thus far.
Accordingly, steroids are prescribed extremely broadly for inflammatory
diseases, including skin diseases, arthritis and other rheumatic diseases,
allergic diseases, eye diseases, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal
diseases, and diseases involving tumors.
When a patient comes to the hospital with profuse wound discharge,
doctors will first administer steroids to quell inflammation since the
cause of the disease is not known. It is the same with fever-reducing
drugs. Doctors will reduce the fever first without examining the cause of

the disease. Although certainly in a time of crisis, when a fever is over

104 degrees Fahrenheit, this can save lives, it does not fundamentally
treat the illness.
Steroids and fever-reducing drugs are like a fire truck that extinguishes
the fire and then leaves. But there is still a lot of repair left to do.
In order for the body to heal itself, the lungs, the key factor in immunity,
must become healthier. When the vitality of the lungs is restored, the
kidneys also become healthier, which in turn ensures improvement in
the health of the adrenal gland.
Clean lungs are like a clean mirror, able to reflect all the problems that
have accumulated in the body thus far. The immune system will look
into this mirror and easily find where the problems are, where toxic
substances have accumulated in the body, and send out commands to
treat them effectively.
When all the chemical toxins and waste accumulated in the body have
been detected and discharged, the skin will become clearer and cleaner,
and patients can experience the miracle of having numerous chronic
diseases be completely resolved.

Duration of Treatment
The duration of treatment is proportional
to the duration of steroid use.Fully
healing the body takes time, and the
length of time it takes to heal depends on
the form of steroids used and on how long
they were used.

In comparison with externally

administered steroid ointments, orally
administered steroids have severer side
effects because they circulate throughout
the body and can interfere more with the
endocrine system.

Steroids quell inflammation but dont help

the body repair. (PUHHHA/iStock)

Based on clinical experience over the last

42 years, I found that the standard period

of treatment for atopic allergies like eczema, hay fever, and asthma, is
approximately six months when patients cleanse their lungs with herbal
medicine and appropriate therapies. Approximately 60 percent of these
patients manage to discharge all the toxins during this period and are
cured.
I call these patients honor students and consider that they have
graduated from treatment. I categorize the remaining patients into four
classes. Patients in class 1 take about a year to heal and become part of
the 2nd graduating class. Patients in class 4, what I call the addict class,
generally have symptoms like high blood pressure, diabetes, and
osteoporosis, and require more than three and a half years to be
completely cured. Patients in class 2 take around two years to heal, and
patients in class 3 take around three years.

There is some difficulty defining these classes because there is no device

or blood test to measure the level of steroids still hidden in the patients
body. However, Ive found I can predict the extent of steroid use based
on where my Korean patients received treatment.
The majority of my Korean patients in classes 1 and 2 have been treated
at local dermatology clinics or in the dermatology clinics at university
hospitals. Smaller dermatology clinics and those in university hospitals
generally prescribe lower doses of steroids and, as such, the residual
quantity of steroids in their bodies is relatively low.
My patients who have been treated at famous dermatology clinics
normally belong to classes 3 and 4 because famous dermatology clinics
have the tendency to prescribe high doses of steroids for prolonged
periods.

+
Witth persistence, you can graduate from all classes of skin disease. (DEVONYU/iStock)

The Right Kind of Sweating

Regardless of whether steroid treatments have been used or not, patients
with skin diseases, including eczema, must sweat. The duration of
treatment will be twice as long if they dont. However, some methods are
more effective than others.
Usually, when someone is told to sweat, their automatic respond will
be,Okay, I will exercise. However, to eliminate disease, you need to
induce sweat from deep in the body.
This kind of sweating is hard to do with exercise alone because normally
when we exercise, we begin to sweat from the head and forehead. If we
exercise more strenuously, the upper body will begin to sweat. However,
what we want to achieve is the sweating in our lower body. In order to
ensure that the sweat pores of the lower body are open, we need our
shins to sweat.
Getting the shins to sweat is difficult with exercise, so I recommend
taking a sauna or hot bath to induce this kind of really deep sweat. If for
some reason you cant submerge the whole body in hot water, then
submerging only your lower body is the next best option.

Asthma has become a very common chronic disease that affects more
than 300 million people around the world. In the next 10years, the
number of people affected is expected to increase to 400 million.
Daily in the United States, more than 40,000 people miss work or
school, and over 5,000 people visit emergency rooms because of
asthma.
That total adds up to 2million ER visits per year that are related to
asthma in one way or another, according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC).
The symptoms of asthma, such as spasmodic coughing, wheezing, and
difficulty breathing, are not only a serious hindrance to carrying out
normal life activities, but can also cause death if they are severe.
Approximately 3,500 asthma patients pass away every year in the United
States alone. In addition, accordingly to a recent announcement by the
American Heart Association (AHA) at its annual academic symposium,
asthma patients who take medication every day have a 60 percent
higher risk of heart failure compared to healthy people.
So how are Americans dealing with asthma? Fortunately, in the United
States, it is possible to purchase over-the-counter asthma medications

that in Korea, are only available with a prescription.

5 Cold Prevention &
Treatment Tips

According to CDC data, more than $56 billion is spent annually to treat
asthma in the United States. What is truly regrettable is that these
treatments are focused on alleviating only the symptoms of asthma.
Frankly speaking, modern medicine falls short when it comes to treating
asthma because of its belief that asthma cannot be cured. Like diabetes
or high blood pressure, asthma is seen as a disease that will accompany
a person throughout life once it manifests.
Due to such a perception, the approach to dealing with asthma has
focused on managing symptoms rather than finding the cause of and
curing it.Moreover, if patients are negligent in managing their asthma
or stop treatment, their symptoms immediately flare up.
However, asthma is in fact a disease that can be completely cured by
properly discerning its cause. I say this because Ive seen more than
40,000 asthma patients in Korea be cured by following my instructions
and using herbal medicine.

Trace Symptoms to Find the Cause

If you can trace the symptoms of
asthma to their underlying cause,
then treatment as well as
prevention is possible because you
will be able to eliminate the cause.
Both genetic and environmental
factors contribute to asthma. Both
of these factors have the common
denominator of allergies.

+
(junebugs/iStock)

A child whose parents both have

allergies will have a genetic
predisposition to develop allergies
as well. Environmental factors
such as dust mites, animal fur,

dust made of microscopic particles (micro dust), pollen, mold, and

cigarette smoke will also contribute to asthma. Allergies are the main
factor that induces asthma, and those with hypersensitive reactions to
usually benign substances are considered to have allergic constitutions.
However, I can assure you that even if you have an allergic constitution,
it can be transformed into a normal constitution. In more than 40 years
of clinical experience, I have found that it is possible not only to restore
the health of patients with allergies, but also to prevent asthma.

Transforming the Bodys Constitution

Hypersensitive reactions in people with allergic constitutions occur
because of degraded immune function. Specifically, the immune system

loses the ability to discern whether a substance is harmful or not to the

body. When the immune system is impaired, some people will have
severe allergic reactions when exposed to substances that elicit no
response whatsoever from other individuals.
Some sensitive people suffer sinus colds throughout the year and find
that fluctuations in temperature lead to rhinitis, inflammation of the
mucus membranes in the nose. Bouts of rhinitis can progress into
chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, infection in the middle ear, and asthma. Thus,
these people can suffer multiple allergies at the same time.
Pulmonary function is the key to preventing common colds and
converting an allergic constitution into a normal constitution. The lungs
are the core organ that governs the immunity, discards carbon dioxide,
and takes in oxygen.
When we breathe in, red blood cells (erythrocytes) promptly carry
oxygen from the lungs to all other organs of the body. Simultaneously,
white blood cells, (leukocytes) combat pathogens prevalent, such as
bacteria, viruses, mold, and parasites that invade our body when we
breathe.
The tonsils, a pair of soft tissue masses that are part of the lymph system,
have the largest quantity of a type of white blood cell called
lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are in charge of immune reactions, and
those in the tonsils prevent disease by eradicating pathogens that enter
through the mouth.
Therefore, if the tonsils are healthy, the immune system functions
normally to prevent common colds and unnecessary allergic reactions.
The health of the tonsils is directly dependent on the health of the lungs.

Asthma: Foods and Natural Treatments

Chinese Medicine for Asthma
In general, when good lung function is restored, it is possible to achieve
healthier tonsils in two months. Rhinitis can be treated in three months,
and asthma can be eradicated in four months. After four months,
shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing will also stop. Thus the
secret to eliminating asthma is to improve the health of the tonsils.
Once the tonsils become healthier, you will not catch common colds, and
the best method of preventing asthma is to prevent common colds.
Moreover, healthy tonsils will prevent other illnesses, including colds
with fevers, sore throats, and influenza.
Although you may still get colds without fevers, these can be overcome
very easily, and the slight cold symptoms that may manifest will not be
able to induce the recurrence of asthma.
In addition, not only is asthma cured, but heart health will also improve.
This is because when the health of the lungs is improved, the heart
receives more oxygen. As a result, those who have suffered from
irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia) for decades find that it disappears,
and they can stop taking drugs for chest pain (angina). Therefore, the

treatment of asthma is the shortcut to longevity in good health.

Be Careful With Carpets

If carpets are not cleaned frequently, they can aggravate allergies
because they collect substances that very easily become airborne when
people walk on them.
Moreover, many pet owners in the United States keep their pets in the
house, and there is also a culture of wearing outdoor shoes inside,
thereby making the issue of carpet hygiene very important.
John Roberts, an environmental engineer known as Dr. Dust, said that
there is an amazingly large quantity of pollutants in the dust specimens
extracted from the carpets in ordinary houses, including lead, cadmium,
mercury, and insecticides as well as carcinogenic substances like
polychlorinated biphenyl and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Pollutants like these aggravate asthma.

End the Pain of Arthritis
Regenerate cartilage by improving the health of the kidneys and lungs

If you support the body in the right way, you can reverse arthritis. (KatarzynaBialasiewicz/iStock)

Arthritis has plagued the earth since time immemorial. The skeleton of
Lucy, the almost 3.2 million-year-old hominid, appears to have suffered
from arthritis.

In different forms, arthritis has also affected many renowned people. Sir
Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and King Louis XIV suffered from gout,
a type of arthritis that is said to impart pain when even gentle breezes
blow. Also referred to as the disease of nobility because it manifests
in those who are too well-fed, gout is caused by inflammation due
toexcess uric acid in the blood. The uric acidis converted into
crystalline form and deposited in the joints.
In the latter part of his life, the artistRenoir painted by tying the brush
onto his hand because of severe pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Because
of this limitation, his painting style changed from delicate and beautiful
to very rough as his arthritis worsened. The much-loved French singer
dith Piaf also suffered rheumatoid arthritis that made her hands

As mentioned above, gout is caused by the accumulation of crystalized
uric acid in joints or other tissues due to the failure to excrete it.
Arthritis can also occur following trauma such as fracture, or damage to
a ligament. Other types of arthritis include purulent and tubercular

arthritis, which arise from infection or tuberculosis, and psoriatic

arthritis, which occurs in people with psoriasis.

Healthy Lungs, Kidneys Are Key

In Korean medicine, arthritis is thought to be the result of weakened
kidney function. When the kidneys are weak, the circulation of energy
and blood during cold weather will not be strong, and residue of various
substances will be generated and accumulate in the joints of the hands
and feet. This residue will eventually decompose and become arthritis.
In Oriental medicine, processes in the body are seen as mirroring the
processes in nature. For example, if the wind is severe, trees will become
bent and twisted; if there is excessive cold, trees freeze, harden, and
become stiff. If there is excessive moisture, trees will become bloated.
When the human body is exposed to excessive wind, cold, ormoisture,
similar problems will occur. Therefore, in Oriental medicine, enabling
good circulation of blood by keeping the joints warm is the basic
treatment for the arthritis patients.
Oriental medicine also treats arthritis with herbal decoctions or pills
made from medicinal herbs that survive in nature by overcoming cold,
wind, and rain. This approachalso restores immune function with
acupuncture, moxibustion (a therapy that involves burning the herb
mugwort), and cupping therapy. Oriental medicine also focuses on
improving blood circulation in order to treat arthritis.

Thus, unlike Western medicine, which focuses on alleviating symptoms

with drugs and surgery, the Oriental medicine approach enables the
body to rebalance and heal naturally without recurrence of symptoms or
side effects.

Modern medicine has also

acknowledged the close relationship
between the kidneys and bones.

In Oriental medicine, the kidneys are also seen to play a key role in
generating bone marrow and maintaining the health of the bones. In
fact, modern medicine has also acknowledged the close relationship
between the kidneys and bones by showing that erythropoietin, a
hormone secreted by the kidneys when oxygen levels are low, signals the
bone marrow to increase the production of red blood cells. The kidneys
also help regulate and metabolize calcium, a key ingredient in bones.
The medicine I developed, Pyunkang, heals arthritis by applying the
Korean medicine principle that when people areweak, they need to
strengthen the functions of a superior organ. Accordingly, since the
superior organ of the kidneys is the lungs, it is possible to restore the
fundamental health of the bones by fortifying the health of the lungs.
Bone is categorized into soft bone (cartilage) and hard bone. Cartilage
regenerates faster than hard bone, and in general, it is possible to
greatly regenerate cartilage after about six months of the treatment
focused on cleansing the lungs.
I became confident of this approach through clinical experience of
treating several tens of thousands of patients with severe pulmonary
diseases. I observed numerous patients with severe pulmonary diseases
unexpectedly grow taller after more than a year of receiving treatment to
improve pulmonary function.
In particular, I recall one female patient, a former professor, who took
the herbal medicine for 18 months to cure her pulmonary fibrosis. After
these 18 months, she grew more than half an inch (1.6 centimeters)
taller, in spite of her advanced age of 73 years. This growth indicates
that the resilience and elasticity of the cartilage between her vertebrae
had been restored.
I have also treated patients with growth disorders by improving their
pulmonary function and have gotten excellent results.
Once the elasticity of cartilage is restored, it is possible to cure arthritis
that has progressed even to the point of deforming the joints. Moreover,
when the health of kidneys has improved, they will better filter blood
and more thoroughly discard waste in the blood through the urine. This
enhanced elimination will gradually lower the uric acid levels in the
body.

When kidney function is improved, gout

can also be eliminated.

When kidney function is improved, after about six months of treatment,

gout can also be eliminated, and since this kind of treatment
fundamentally removes the cause of the disease, gout will not recur.
If you or any others you know feel despair that they will never be able to
escape the pain of arthritis, I sincerely recommend that you put effort
into cleansing your lungs, and dont let go of the hope that your joints
can be regenerated.
Healthy lungs can facilitate the elimination of the uric acid and restore
damaged cartilage and hard bone to its previous healthy state. I also
recommend caution about artificial joint implants. These should be
considered as the last resort because the ability of your body to restore
itself is indeed very amazing and great.

What most people dont know is that both colds and allergies are a type
of condition called rhinitis. Rhinitis is a set of symptoms due to
inflammation of the mucus membrane in the nose.

overreaction to normally harmless substances. The common cold is a
type of non-allergic rhinitis called viral rhinitis, whensymptoms occur
because of infection by a virus.
Allergic rhinitis affects around 50 million people in the United States,
according to the American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology.
Although there are no definitive statistics on non-allergic rhinitis, it is
estimated to affect millions and is one of the most common conditions
diagnosed by primary-care and ear, nose, and throat doctors.

greatly decrease quality of life and cause missed work and school.
What is truly regrettable for patients who suffer chronically from some
form of rhinitis is that many doctors believe it is incurable. But I have
found that it is curable, and I will explain how below.

Why Many Treatments Dont Work

Allergic and non-allergic rhinitis also have differences in symptoms. The
common cold can be accompanied by fevers and is highly contagious
while allergic rhinitis is not accompanied by fever, nor is it contagious.

Modern medicine treats rhinitis differently depending on whether it is

allergic or non-allergic, but the root of both lies in the reactions of the
immune system, so I treat both in the same way using Korean medicine.

Burned Dog Photo

Because the common cold virus has mutated to produce more than 200
different types, there is no way to vaccinate against it. Flu vaccinations
are possible because there are fewer strains of the flu virus. Vaccinations
train the immune system to recognize the injected virus, so it will be
able to fight the same virus if it encounters it later.
However, whether you become infected with the common cold or flu
virus, if the immune system is healthy and strong, there is no need to
train it in advance, and it will still be able to fight infection.
But if the immune system is weak, and the common cold is not treated
properly, the virus will establish itself in the body causing your stuffy
nose and other uncomfortable symptoms.
Although the number of patients who see doctors because of rhinitis
associated with viral infections or allergies is increasing every year, and
doctors are treating them, only a very small number of patients are
completely cured of their ailments. This is because treatments are aimed
at alleviating symptoms without treating the fundamental cause.
Typical treatment for allergies involves the recommendation that you
avoid substances that trigger allergic reactions. For symptoms like nasal
discharge and sneezing, you may be given antihistamines or steroids to
suppress them.
However, such treatment can only alleviate the symptoms for a short
period of time.

effects. Although antihistamines are weaker than steroids, patients can

build up resistance to them if they are used repeatedly.
Steroids are prescribed to promptly alleviate symptoms due to rhinitis.
However, steroids suppress the discharge of substances that actually
need to be discarded and pushes them deeper into the body.
Accordingly, using steroids will turn the body into a storage tank for
waste matter.
Thus, health is not truly restored, and the patient will live in a cycle of
recurring pain and temporary alleviation of symptoms. Because modern
medicine is busy getting rid of symptoms, it does not solve the
fundamental cause of the problem.
In order to fundamentally solve the problem, the root cause in the
immune system must be properly understood and eliminated.

Keys to Cure
Some doctors say that symptoms associated with rhinitiscannot be
cured but only managed. However, I can say confidently that they can be
fully cured. In fact, they can be cured very well.
I found that the solution lies in the health of the lungs. At first glance, it
may not be evident how allergies and colds are affected by the lungs;
however, their relationship can be understood easily if you understand
how the lungs influence different parts of the body.
Healthy lungs restore the health
of the tonsils, which in turn are
associated with the restoration
and fortification of immunity.
By strengthening the lungs, I
have had many patients who

symptoms, not only have their
symptoms relieved but never
have a recurrence of their
problem.

(ttsz/iStock)

When patients like these

undergo treatment for more than five months with Korean herbal
medicine aimed at fortifying the lungs, their stuffy nose as well as other
other respiratory diseases, such as asthma, will also not recur thereafter.
This is possible when the health of the tonsils isrestored through the
reinforcement of pulmonary functions.
When the nose is blocked, people will naturally breathe through their
mouths, which can cause the tonsils to become infected and swell.

The tonsils play a more central role in

the immune system than most people
imagine.
http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1918413-secrets-of-korean-medicine-part-8-say-goodbye-to-rhinitis-and-colds/[01/01/2016 14:12:06]

Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 8: Say Goodbye to Rhinitis and Colds

When the tonsils become healthy, the immune system can perform its
duties well. In fact, the tonsils play a more central role in the immune
system than most people imagine.
The tonsils are a pair of soft tissue masses that are part of the lymph
system. Their location in the throat is very important because the throat
is the passage that leads to the cardiovascular system. The tonsils
situated in this passage help the immune system by producing
antibodies.
Only when the tonsils are healthy can healthy white blood cells
(leukocytes) be produced in large numbers to safeguard the body. When
the tonsils are healthy, we will not suffer from sore throats or sinus
infections and can naturally prevent all types of rhinits.

Let Your Body Heal Itself

When the tonsils are healthy, this will also restore the discriminatory
ability of the immune system, and substances that previously induced
allergies will no longer affect you.
Discriminatory ability refers to the ability of the body to distinguish
whether a certain substance or signal means danger or not. If the
discriminatory ability of the immune system is degraded, it will display
hypersensitive reactions to substances that are not dangerous to the
body.
For example, hypersensitive reactions to flower pollen, dust in the home,
or particular foods are the result of degradation in the discriminatory
ability of the immune system.
Simply avoiding substances that induce allergies is not the best way of
treating them. On the contrary, it is important to enable the body to
recognize such substances as safe and not to overreact to them.
When the discriminatory ability of the immune system improves, it will
accurately distinguish dangerous substances from safe ones and
promptly take measures to stop the infiltration of dangerous substances
into the body.

Thus, fundamental to treating all types of rhinitis is creating the best
conditions for white blood cells to protect the body from external
attacks, which begins with restoring pulmonary function.
Pulmonary function can be fortified through aerobic exercise, such as
mountain climbing, swimming, and cycling, as well as treatments with
Korean herbal aimed at purifying the lungs.
For people who have not been heavily using medicinal steroids, after
about two months of treatment, the health of the tonsils is usually

restored, and common colds can be prevented. After three months of

treatment, rhinitis symptoms can be resolved.
After four months, symptoms such as nasal discharge; sneezing; stuffy
nose; post-nasal drip; coughing; phlegm; and itchiness in the nose, eyes,

improvement in asthma at this time.
With this treatment, the body plays the principal role and a cure is

COPD does not have to be a life-long disease. (Halkpoint/istock)

Around the world, hundreds of millions of people suffer from chronic

respiratory diseases. By 2030, the World Health Organization predicts
that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) will be the third
leading cause of death. Other less common but also serious chronic
respiratory conditions include bronchiectasis and pulmonary fibrosis.
COPD is not one disease, but an umbrella term for chronic lung
conditions, including bronchitis and emphysema, in which the
respiratory tract becomes blocked. Along with the reduced airflow, the
lungs may fill with phlegm, killingthe tiny alveoli sacs, where oxygen
and carbon dioxide meet our blood, thereby inducing a loss of lung
function.

various substances that narrow the airways make breathing difficult and
degrade pulmonary function, eventually leading to death.
Bronchiectasis is a condition in whichthe airways distend and become
unable to contract due to the destruction of muscle and the walls of the
bronchial tubes. This causes difficulty discharging phlegm, which
accumulates in the bronchial tubes, often leading to infection.
Symptoms include coughing, the generation of pus-like phlegm that has
a foul odor, vomiting blood, fatigue, reduction in body weight,
weakness, fevers, and apathy.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a condition in whichtissue deep in the lungs
becomes scarred, thick, and stiff, making it hard for sufferersto catch
their breath. Other symptoms include a dry, hacking cough that doesnt
get better; fatigue; unexplained weight loss; muscle and joint aches; and
something called clubbing, a conditionin whichthe tips of a persons
fingers or toes become wider and rounder.

Just as you will face severe danger if you fail to realize that increasing
winds are a sign of an oncoming hurricane, so too will you face danger if
you fail to realize the symptoms of chronic respiratory diseases early on
and consider them merely symptoms of a common cold.
Some signs to watch out for are difficulties breathing, a feeling of frailty,
and various complications that cause sudden aggravation of other bodily
conditions. Moreover, these symptoms can restrict movement, and lack
of exercise in turn frequently induces depression, sleeping disorders,
cardiovascular diseases, and osteoporosis.

Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 9: If You've Had Tuberculosis, You Must Prevent COPD and Other Chronic Respiratory Diseases

Dust and Lung Damage

If you live to age 70, you will have taken approximately 700 million
breaths. Every time you breathe, dust particles enter your lungs, and the
total quantity of dust you breathe in throughout your life is equivalent to
a full truckload. However, you also exhale 700 million times in your life
and discharge approximately 99.999 percent of the foreign substances
that were inhaled, which generally keeps the lungs clean.
Nonetheless, a minute amount of dust remains in the lungs, and those
who have had tuberculosis or tuberculous pleurisy or who have smoked
for more than 40 years, will end up discharging only 99.99 percent of
the foreign substances that enter their lungs.
Although this is only a difference of 0.001 percent, the difference in the
total quantity of foreign substances in the lungs after having taken 700
million breaths throughout oneslife is quite substantial. Thus by age
85, almost everyones lungs will be damaged. This is because the
accumulation of harmful foreign substances will incrementally kill the
cells lining the alveoli (pneumocytes).
Thus, those who have suffered tuberculosis may experience damage to
the lungs several decades earlier than those who have not.

Healthy Tonsils Ward Of Respiratory Disease

Western medicine refers to pulmonary emphysema (weakening of the air
sacs in the lungs), bronchiectasis, and pulmonary fibrosis as permanent
lesions, meaning that it isnot possible to restore the lungs to their
original state. However, our bodies have a weapon that even these
conditions cannot overpower. This weapon is thetonsils.
If the tonsils are healthy and produce powerful lymphocytes (a kind of
immune cell), this will nurture the ability of the body to eradicate the
harmful germs and viruses. Moreover, the immune systems ability to
distinguish between autologous (self) and heterogenous (foreign)
substances will be elevated, so it can easily ward off the aforementioned
conditions.

The root of chronic respiratory

conditions often is the common cold.

Although the stages of birth, old age, sickness, and death in life are
unavoidable for all of us, conditions of the respiratory system can be
controlled to a certain extent with a U-turn to a healthier life. The root
of chronic respiratory conditions often is the common cold, with
conditions like rhinitis and asthma causing progressive aggravation
until severe pulmonary disease manifests. Thus, since the cause lies in
the lungs, the solution also lies in them.
As a person gets older, the immune system deteriorates, and the lungs

become damaged. However, if the lungs are cleaned thoroughly, the

tonsils will become healthier. If the health of the tonsils is maintained,
healthy lymphocytes produced by them can heal lesions and regenerate
damaged muscle and bronchial tubes.

Normally within about six months of starting to fortify the lungs, blood

there will not only be improvement in symptoms, but also the complete

One time, a professor of computer engineering visited me to tell me that
his bronchiectasis had been cured after 18 months of treatment to

In fact, I have cured 12,000 bronchiectasis patients, 10,000 pulmonaryemphysema patients, and 10,000 pulmonary-fibrosis patients by

Coughing helps expel toxins for people with COPD. (lisafx/iStock)

Let me take a breath! When most of us become tired in the midst of a

busy day, we can put aside our workload for a moment and inhale and
exhale deeply. Deep breaths refresh us, relieving a feeling of suffocation
and restoring peace and stability of mind.
However, for those who cant breathe properly, who constantly wheeze
and find themselves short of breath, and who have difficulty walking
because of this, there is no relief from the feeling of suffocation. Such is
the case for many patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) who experience such difficulty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Around the world, COPD causes one death every 10 seconds, according
to the World Health Organization. When COPD is severe, patients find
that their quality of life is greatly impaired.
COPD is not one disease, but an umbrella term for chronic lung
conditions, including emphysema, in which the respiratory tract

Emphysema is a condition in whichthe air sacs in the lungs are

damaged. Imagine the lungs are like a tree: Air enters through roots (the
nose or mouth), flows into the trunk (the trachea), then to the branches
(the bronchial tubes), the twigs, (the bronchioli), and eventually the
leaves, which are the approximately 500 million alveoli, the sacs at the
end bronchioli where the air meets our blood.
When there are many alveoli, breathing is comfortable because the
number of alveoli determines breathing capacity. Emphysema destroys
the walls between the alveoli, bursting the sacs like bubbles. The
number of alveoli decreases rapidly from a healthy 500 million. When
there are only 200 million, patients find themselves short of breath.

When pulmonary functions are

reinforced and immunity is
normalized, you will no longer catch
colds.

The lungs also fill with phlegm, causing coughing, and if emphysema
becomes severe, the patient may have difficulty blowing out a candle
from as little as 5inches away. The decrease in alveoli also means less
oxygen is delivered to the blood, and less carbon dioxide is discharged,
which has an adverse effect on the overall health of the body.
Once the lungs are damaged, it is difficult to restore them to their
original healthy state. Although healthy lungs can overcome pneumonia
quite well, weakened lungs cannot. The five-year survival rate for people
with COPD ranges from 3060 percent, depending on the severity of the
disease.
For patients with COPD and a past history of pulmonary diseases such as
tuberculosis and pneumonia, the five-year survival rate is much less. In
addition, COPD patients are four to five times more likely to develop
pulmonary cancer.
Since modern medicine considers it impossible to restore the alveoli that
are damaged when a patient has emphysema, the damage is labeled
permanent, and modern medicine views the degradation of pulmonary
function due to COPD as having crossed the river with no way of
returning.
Then, are we really left with no option but to just watch our bodily
condition degrade? Isnt there a way to cure COPD? Do not worry, there
is still hope.

Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 10: The Solution to COPD

Shortness of Breath, Coughing Help Healing

Contrary to popular belief, in order for the condition of the lungs to truly
improve, you must experience shortness of breath and coughing.
Shortness of breath signifies that damage to the lungs is being reported
to the immune system. It is the signal that conveys the critical situation
of the lungs to the immune system and is essential to the healing
process.
The immune system can then deploy the cells in the alveoli
(pneumocytes) to create phlegm that fills up the lungs, and the normal
operation of the immune system naturally expels this phlegm and heals
the body.
However, modern medicine often blocks this important message
altogether by prescribing steroids immediately when shortness of breath
occurs. An even more serious problem is that patients think steroids are
excellent medicine and continue to use them because they stop
shortness of breath.
But what patients dont realize is that steroids also stop the rescue team
of the immune system from being sent to the areas of damage, and thus
the damage can become worse.

You will heal if you cough.

Then, how can COPD be fundamentally healed? Through coughingyou

will heal if you cough. This is because the only means of discharging
waste matter from the lungs of COPD patients is to cough it out.
Healthy people can clean their lungs by means other than coughing,
particularly microscopic hairlike oganelles called cilia in the airways
move phlegm to the throat to be spat out. While healthy people sleep or
are working, the cilia act automatically to discharge phlegm from the
body.
However, in COPD patients, the cilia are damaged, and the body has to
rely on coughing to discharge phlegm from the lungs. Thus, although
coughing is uncomfortable, it is also healing.
Again with coughing, modern medicine takes the opposite approach, and
coughing and phlegm are suppressed with cough suppressants
(antitussives), and expectorants, which thin phlegm, making it easier to
expel.
However in reality, not all the phlegm is removed from the lungs. It is
only the moisture that has been taken out. As moisture is drained out,
the volume of phlegm decreases, but whats left over becomes hard.
But, since phlegm is not being coughed out, both doctors and patients
may think that the expectorant used is effective and will continue to use
it. If patients continue to take this medicine, the lungs will gradually be

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1926587-secrets-of-korean-medicine-part-10-the-solution-to-copd/[01/01/2016 14:12:45]

Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 10: The Solution to COPD

filled with hardened phlegm, and breathing will become even more
difficult, eventually leading to death.
Then, how can COPD be completely cured? The hardened phlegm, must
be made softer to induce the body to cough it out. This can be done with
pulmonary cleansing that continuously supplies moisture to the lungs.
When the phlegm is soft, it can be removed easily by means of coughing.
However, when phlegm is continuously coughed out, patients frequently
think that the condition has been aggravated. In reality though, this is a
genuine process of healing and is what allows waste matter in the body
to be discharged.
When very thick phlegm is continuously discharged through coughing,
after about two months, it will become whitish, indicating improvement
in the condition. After about one year of continuous cleansing and
coughing out accumulated waste, a pulmonary CT will show that the
hard clumps of phlegm that previously filled the lungs have now
disappeared completely. For many doctors, this is considered a miracle.

Cleanse the Lungs

If the lungs are continuously cleaned for about a year and a half, the
tonsils will be strengthened and produce active immune cells that
gradually regenerate damaged alveoli. After approximately 50 percent of
the damaged alveoli have been restored, this will resolve pulmonary
emphysema from the root and cure COPD.
When pulmonary functions are reinforced and immunity is normalized,
the first change you will experience is that you will no longer catch
colds. If the common cold is eradicated, it is possible to sufficiently
prevent not only rhinitis (inflammation of the mucus membrane of the
nose) and asthma, but also severe pulmonary diseases that result from
the prolongation of common colds.
If the health of the lungs is restored through pulmonary cleansing
therapy, even at the age of 70 years, the tonsils will be fortified, the
alveoli will be regenerated, and you can acquire 30 years of additional
life. This will naturally enable mankind to have a lifespan that exceeds
100 years. I firmly believe that cleansing the lungs will bring about the
era of 100-year lifespans.

aggravation of symptoms.
However, the drugs prescribed in Western medicine, such as
corticosteroids and immunomodulators, can have extensive side effects,
including degradation of the immune system.
In this article, I will explain how pulmonary fibrosis can be treated with
herbal medicine.

Restoring Hardened Lungs

Pulmonary fibrosis is the hardening or scarring of tissues deep in the
lungs. Most cases are idiopathic, meaning there is no known cause.
When its severe, death can result from failure of the lungs to absorb
enough oxygen.
The most common early symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis are similar to
other pulmonary diseases and include a dry cough and difficulty
breathing. As the disease progresses, difficulty breathing becomes
severe. The condition progresses at markedly different rates in different
individuals. Some have symptoms that aggravate very quickly while
others progress slowly over several years.
Mr. Yoon Young-sik, 59, owns a fur-restoration business, which he runs
out of his semi-basement workroom. Three years ago, he caught a severe
cold due to a heavy workload that forced him to repeatedly work late
into the night. Because he has to generate the majority of his income
during the winter months, he felt he could not afford to stop working or
take the time to go to the hospital and instead continued to work
nonstop.
Finally, he began coughing up so much phlegm that it was difficult for
him to breathe, and he realized he could not postpone medical
treatment any longer. After diagnosing him with pneumonia, a doctor
recommended hospitalization. After 15 days of hospital treatment, he
was well enough to resume work and believed he was fully cured. Within
a month, however, his pneumonia recurred, and upon further
examination, he received the diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis.

After this, he made regular visits to a university hospital and

continuously took the drugs that were prescribed to him. However, after
a year of treatment, his pulmonary fibrosis had worsened, and so out of
desperation, he set about researching and read an extensive range of
literature on respiratory diseases. But after all his research, he was only
able to confirm that modern medical science does not have a definitive
treatment for pulmonary fibrosis.

Modern medical science considers

conditions like pulmonary fibrosis as
incurable.

Mr. Yoons case was an example of a common pattern with pulmonary

fibrosis, which is that the initial symptoms appear trivial, like those of a
common cold or pneumonia, thereby causing patients and medical
practitioners to leave them unattended.
Pulmonary fibrosis starts with alveolitis, which is inflammation in the
alveoli, the air sacs in the lungs where oxygen meets our blood and
carbon dioxide leaves it. As pulmonary fibrosis progresses, the alveoli
are destroyed, leaving scars that become hard.
When lung tissue becomes hard, it narrows the arteries that connect the
lungs and heart, making the right ventricle of the heart, which is the
ventricle that sends blood to the lungs, work harder. This is called
pulmonary hypertension and can lead to cardiac failure if not treated.

Awakening the Doctor Within

Through my research over the last 40 years, I have come to the firm

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1931238-secrets-of-korean-medicine-part-11-let-the-doctor-within-treat-pulmonary-fibrosis/[15/01/2016 14:57:43]

Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 11: Let the 'Doctor Within' Treat Pulmonary Fibrosis

belief that the lungs are the most important organ in the body. With the
herbal medicine I developed, I have treated more than 10,000 patients
with pulmonary fibrosis by cleansing the lungs.
This cleansing improves the health of tonsils, allowing them to produce
lymphocytes, which are key immune cells. When the health of the lungs
improves, the condition of the heart, which is closely connected to the
lungs in Oriental medicine, also improves.
The improvement of pulmonary function also leads to better health of
the kidneys, which are subsidiary organs of the lungs in Oriental
medicine. The improvement of the lungs, heart, and kidneys restores the
resilience of blood vessels, which helps control blood pressure and
restore hardened pulmonary tissues.
After various Western medical treatments failed to help him, Mr. Yoon
came to me and underwent pulmonary cleansing therapy. Shortly after
he started, amazing changes began to take place. His phlegmy cough
and blocked nasal cavities that had been constant throughout the year
completely disappeared within 20 days.

Rid yourself of the belief that

pulmonary fibrosis is incurable.

The sound of his breathing became quieter and he said he felt like he was
living in a completely different world. In addition, the sinusitis that
had manifested along with his pulmonary fibrosis disappeared.
After about three months of treatment, the shortness of breath that had
prevented him from walking any meaningful distance or talking for
prolonged periods was markedly alleviated. He was able to easily walk
on flat ground and even climb hills for 20 to 30 minutes..
After five months, he was able to climb relatively steep mountains three
to four times a week for about 40 minutes.
The symptoms then improved to the extent that he could climb the
mountains behind his house for one to two hours every day. Not long
ago, he took a pulmonary CT scan and an X-ray for the first time in two
years and found that his pulmonary fibrosis had greatly improved.

Mr. Yoons case is an example of what can happen with pulmonary
cleansing therapy. After about 18 months, pulmonary fibrosis can be
cured, and approximately 50 percent of the damaged alveoli can be
regenerated, opening the path to longevity and good health.

The common cold is one of the most common acute illnesses. When we
have one, we literally experience the feeling of coldness, secrete mucous
via our nose, and cough and sneeze in order to prevent the nasal
discharge from entering the lungs.
Colds are also often accompanied by sore throats (acute pharyngitis) due
to the inflammation of the pharynx, which is the membrane-lined cavity
that connects our mouth and nose with the esophagus. The symptoms of
a sore throat are very similar to the symptoms of tonsillitis.
Tonsillitis is an acute inflammation that generally occurs in the palatine
tonsils, which are located on both sides of the root of the tongue at the
back of the mouth. The tonsils are lymphatic glands that are the first
line of immune protection for the body.

Similar to a cold, the symptoms of tonsillitis disappear within one or two

weeks without needing any particular treatment, unless there is some
sort of complication. Because they go away on their own, people tend to
consider tonsillitis and common colds as trivial illnesses and ignore
them. But this is not desirable because there is always a reason why the
human body displays certain symptoms.
Another similarity between colds and tonsillitis is their cause. With both,
failure of pulmonary functions to work normally leads to degradation of
the immune system, leaving the body susceptible to infection.

The TonsilsHealth Score

The state of health of the tonsils can be calculated based on how often
they swell.
Those who have frequently swollen tonsils get a score of 50 out of 100,
while those suffering from common colds, tonsillitis, or bronchitis two
or three times a year get a score of 70. Those who dont suffer such
illnesses or swollen tonsils get a score of 100.
When the tonsils are healthy and strong, they produce an abundance of
lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, which help ward off pathogens
in the oral cavity and nasal tract.

Lymphocytes produced by weakened

tonsils are not able to successfully
combat pathogens.

However, lymphocytes produced by weakened tonsils are not able to

successfully combat pathogens, thereby resulting in prolongation of
symptoms. When you catch a cold, your body generates heat in the form
of a fever, activates coughing, and increases the number of immune cells
being produced to combat the infectious elements.
When tonsillitis manifests, it is the lymphocytes in the tonsils generating
inflammation as they fight against invading pathogens. The
manifestations of swollen tonsilsdifficulty swallowing saliva, body
aches, and throbbing painand high fever are all indications of this
fight.

Prevention and Treatment

By preventing the common cold, it is possible to prevent tonsillitis as
well as asthma and rhinitis (inflammation of the mucus membrane of
the nose).
However, many drugs are designed to eliminate the symptoms only in
the short term and are not helpful in the long run. Although taking
fever-reducing drugs and antibiotics may get rid of the symptoms
effectively, repeated use can induce even severer colds by degrading the
self-healing ability of the body. Since the common cold is ultimately the
result of a problem in immunity, it is important to prevent them by
fortifying the immune system.
If you suffer cold with fevers, sore throats, or tonsillitis, the tonsils can
become enlarged, a condition called hypertrophy. Western medicine
treats repeated enlargement of the tonsils and frequent tonsillitis by
surgically removing the palatine tonsils because of the view that the
remaining three can compensate for the loss sufficiently.

My opinion is that invasion by

pathogens becomes easier after a
tonsillectomy.

However, my opinion is that invasion by pathogens becomes easier after

a tonsillectomy because the palatine tonsils are a key first line of defense
for the immune system. On the other hand, if the swollen tonsils are not
removed, but rather the cause of the swelling is found and treated, it is
possible to restore them to health.

Secrets of Korean Medicine, Part 12: Clean Lungs and Healthy Tonsils Prevent the Common Cold

If the tonsils are healthy and dont swell for two to three years,
hypertrophy will disappear. Healthy tonsils will also prevent colds with
fevers and not easily become swollen. This in turn has a big impact on
pneumonia risk and helps ward off pneumonia caused by certain types
of bacterial infection for the next four to five decades.
It is true that if you remove the palatine tonsils, you wont experience
any adverse symptoms right away, and although you may feel more
comfortable after a tonsillectomy, in the long term, tonsillectomy is not
the correct choice, not only for the sake of the tonsils, but also for the
health of your immune system.
In most cases, a tonsillectomy is
performed during childhood, and
patients dont experience significant
disadvantages because of the absence
of tonsils since their immunity is
quite good during this stage of life.
However, as time passes, their
immunity will more rapidly degrade.
In particular, in mid to late life, when
pulmonary functions degrade due to

+

accumulation of toxic substances, it is

only possible to ward off pneumonia
caused by bacillus bacteria if the
palatine tonsils are healthy.
Therefore, it is essential to refrain

from undergoing a tonsillectomy without careful consideration.

The throat is an important path to the lungs and heart and accordingly
has a large number of lymphatic glands. The removal of the tonsils,
which some people want to do merely because they have suffered several
bouts of swelling and some discomfort, may eventually induce asthma
and pneumonia 40 years later because the tonsils are not protecting
them and keeping pathogens from getting into the lungs.

Fortify Your Immunity

When I was young, the health score of my tonsils was only about 50 and
I frequently suffered tonsillitis, which whenever it manifested, came
with a chill that was quite unbearable. My research actually began in
order to find a cure for my frequent bouts of tonsillitis and as the result,
several decades later, I was able to develop a Korean herbal medicine
that cleanses the lungs thoroughly and thus restore the health of the
tonsils.

alveoli, the air sacs in the lungs where the blood takes on oxygen and
releases carbon dioxide. Cleansing my lungs also lead to the fortification
of lymphocytes and the size of my tonsils, which had been enlarged
three to four times their usual size returned to normal.
I was also able to avoid colds with fevers and very easily overcome the
occasional sore throat that manifested. The health score of my tonsils is
now 100.
Cleansing the lungs is the best method of preventing not only common
colds, but also tonsillitis, because clean lungs fortify the immune system
and ward off pathogens that invade the body.
As Hippocrates said, The natural healing force within each of us is the
greatest force in getting well.
It is not possible to completely prevent or recover from any disease
unless the immunity of the body is fully restored. Once immunity is
fortified by restoring the health of tonsils, through the reinforcement of
the pulmonary functions, it is possible to prevent and fully cure not only
common colds, but also various other intractable respiratory diseases
induced by them.
