Youth Support Worker
Recreation Youth Support Worker:
The Recreation Youth Support Worker will be responsible for engaging youth to
participate in a number of recreational programs as well as to nurture the
competiveness and sportsmanship. The Sipekne'katik Community & Youth Recreation
Program encourages the role of the Recreation Youth Support Worker to maintain a
positive attitude to model such qualities as fairness, leadership, and to be a reflection of
a positive role model.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Open Gym

Plan and deliver structured and free play child and youth physical activities

Promote healthy living

Bring out & ensemble equipment needed for programs

Have sign-in and stat sheets ready and completed each night

Ensure a safe and healthy environment

Routine checks to ensure bathrooms, hallways, stairwell, door entrances, lobby,


and gymnasium are free from destruction and vandalism

Supervise all children and youth participants

Record all incident/accident reports and pass all forms into Recreation
Coordinator within 24 hours of incident

Set forth rules with children and youth

Address any issues arising immediately swearing, bullying, fights, etc.

Assesses risk and uses emergency procedures as required

Dismantle and put away all equipment used to stage event(s); unless event is
expected to continue the following day(s)

Notify Recreation Coordinator of any needed supplies, equipment, sign-in and


stat sheets, water, broken or lost equipment, or of any other concerns or
questions

Sipekne'katik Community & Youth Rec programs shall only allow music that is
not derogatory, racist, explicit and/or hard-core

Assistant all certified instructors in delivery of programs and supervision of


participants

Follows policies, procedures and code of ethics set in place

Maintains confidentiality

Participates in professional workshops, courses, and ongoing learning

Skills and abilities:

Must be self-motivated
Must be dependable
Must be reliable
Experience in a variety of sports and other physical activities
Must be able to engage children and youth
Daily reporting will be required
Time management and organizational skills
Ability to work independently
Flexible to work with different age groups
Proactive, professional, prompt, and reliable attendance to work
Patient and calm under pressure
Work in noisy and busy environment

Core Requirements:

Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent

Must be available to work weekends and/or holidays

Work experience must pertain to job posting

Must work well with children and youth

Will be required to work outside in various climate conditions

Will report and relay information to Recreation Coordinator

Coaching Certificates are an asset, but not a requirement

Criminal Record Check, certificate required

Child Abuse Registry Check, certificate required

Current First Aid and CPR, certificates required



*If it is deemed that all qualifications are equal, preference will be given to
registered persons of Aboriginal descent. Pay is minimum wage and successful
applicant is subject to a five week review*
