Introduction
Fortunately, a waste product can be substituted for large portions of Portland
cement, significantly improving concretes environmental characteristics.
Fly ash, consisting mostly of silica, alumina, and iron, forms a compound
similar to Portland cement.
High volume of fly ash are used in concrete creates a stronger, more
durable product and reduces concretes environmental impact
considerably. Due to its strength and lower water content, cracking is
reduced.
The study reveals that high volume fly ash concrete show that higher
resistance against acid attack, alkaline attack, and sulphate attack
compared with conventional concrete.

Introduction of Alccofine 1203

In normal Fly Ash Concrete, the ash replacement (for Cement) is usually in
range of 15-35%. IS 1489 ( Part 1 ) : 1991 (Indian Standard PortlandPozzolana Cement Specification : Fly Ash Based) specifies that the fly ash
constituent in Portland-pozzolana cement shall not be less than 15 percent
and not more than 35 percent by mass of Portland-pozzolana cement.
In High-volume fly ash (HVFA) Concrete, the ash replacement is more than
usual, and in many cases, exceeds a 50% weight replacement for cement.
So, technically, there is a higher than normal volume of ash within the mix
design, and because of the specific gravity difference between cement (3.15)
and a standard fly ash (2.54 to 2.65), the volume of total Cementitious
material can increase.

Introduction of Alccofine 1203

We proposed to use Alccofine 1203 along with 50% fly ash due to the following
benefits of this product:ALCCOFINE 1203 is a new generation, ultrafine, low calcium silicate product,
manufactured in India. It has distinct characteristics to enhance
'performance of concrete' in fresh and hardened stages
ALCCOFINE1203 performs in superior manner than all other mineral
admixtures used in concrete within India. Due to its inbuilt CaO content,
ALCCOFINE1203 triggers two way reactions during hydration
Primary reaction of cement hydration.
Pozzolanic reaction: ALCCOFINE also consumes by
product calcium hydroxide from the hydration of cement to form additional
C-S-H gel
This results in denser pore structure and ultimately higher strength gain.

Conclusion from results

Concrete:- Like to like comparison
The gain in compressive strength for HVFA concrete with Alccofine is substantially
high for 3,7 & 28 days
The initial slump & slump retention of the concrete with Alccofine is also higher
than that of concrete without Alccofine signifying that Alccofine is also contributing
towards increasing the workability of the concrete
Additional economy in the mix design can be achieved by reducing cement
content by 15% in case of HVFA with Alccofine
