A vision to strengthen healthcare in the communities we serve and empower patients to make

informed choices, was at the genesis of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical
Research Institute.
Inaugurated in January 2009, the Hospital is a significant social initiative from Reliance
Group. It is designed to raise India's global standing as a healthcare destination, with
emphasis on excellence in clinical services, diagnostic facilities and research activities.
We are the only hospital in Mumbai to function with a FULL TIME SPECIALIST
SYSTEM,that ensures the availability and access to the best medical talent around-theclock.The 750-bed hospital has over 103 full-time doctors, 520 nurses and about 200
paramedics, and growing.
With a vision to offer outstanding patient care, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital lives
up to very high ethical and professional standards so as to meet the stringent benchmarks that
characterize the finest medical institutions across the world. Equipped with excellent medical
infrastructure and staff we wish to transform the way our country views healthcare
deliverables.
Why kdah
Five years ago, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute opened its doors with the objective to
strengthen medical care in the communities we serve, and empower patientsand their familiesto make informed choices.
A tribute by Anil and I to my father-in-law Dhirubhai Ambani, and dedicated to my mother-in-law Kokilaben, this institution
was created to bridge the gaps in the Indian healthcare system. Indeed, by bringing the world's best technology and treatment
protocols to India, we wish to transform the way our country views healthcare deliverables.
Looking back, it is indeed heartening to see that we have managed to live up to the very high ethical and professional
standards we set ourselves upon inception, and meet the stringent benchmarks that characterise the finest medical institutions
across the world. We have succeeded in blazing a very individual trail by pursuing a full-time specialist system, and achieved
a convergence of global best practices adapted to Indian needs with a family of healthcare professionals that combines talent,
technical expertise and commitment across disciplines.
We believe that compassion and comfort are the cornerstones of care. By catering to every segment of society and providing
every facility across disciplines under one roof, we seek to streamline the process and bring smiles on the face of everyone
who walks through our doors. The hospital itself is designed to shatter every negative stereotypethere is no claustrophobia
here, only space; no darkness, only light; no grimness, only hope. With a deliberately low bed ratio ensuring more space, we
seek to provide every patient dignity, comfort, convenience and privacy they deserve.
Our 15 'centres of excellence', 26 other 'specialty departments', 20 'super specialist clinics' and five 'support groups' have
raised the bar in terms of diagnostics and treatment, and have become destinations of choice for healthcare seekers in India
and abroad. Each complicated procedure undertaken, each successful outcome, only spurs the team on to greater heights in
their pursuit of excellence.
Our journey continues in a bid to reach more people, to touchand savemore lives. And in this journey, the intangible
rewards are often the greatest: the joy in the eyes of the parents whose newborn has successfully undergone congenital heart
surgery; the easy gait of the silver man whose Parkinson's disease has responded to deep brain stimulation (DBS); the
happiness reflected on the face of the 60-year-old man who successfully underwent robotic surgery for prostate cancer; and
the bright smile of the 26-year-old mother who underwent a liver transplant from a living donorher 19-year-old brother.

These are just some of the successes that drive our committed, passionate team and make us strive harder to be the best we
can beand give Indians the best medical care they deserve. With the full support of the Reliance Group in general, and
Anil in particular, we rededicate ourselves to serving the community, the city, and the country.
Welcome to the future of healthcare!

Technology
As a truly world-class institution, Kokilaben Hospital offers doctors and patients cutting edge diagnostic and surgical solutions as well as the
latest in IT systems. In many cases, they represent the first of their kind in the region. Some of these wonders of medical and hospital
technology include:

ARMEOSPRING
A Robotic-Driven Upper Limb Orthosis, a Computer Enhanced Rehabilitation Device to improve hand and arm impairment for patients with
brain injuries, neurological disorders or strokes

LOKOMATPRO
A Robotic-Driven Gait Orthosis, a Computer Enhanced Rehabilitation Device to improve walking in neurologically impaired patients

OPTIMA MR430S 1.5T: Amazing Convenience, No Claustrophobia

The Optima MR430s 1.5T is advancement in MR imaging that provides extremely significant benefits to the patients. The Optima MR430s
is a quantum leap forward in MR imaging because only the targeted anatomy needs to be inside the system. This high performance
dedicated extremity MR system is capable of imaging the foot, ankle, knee, hand and elbow.

Greater patient comfort means less anxiety. Its innovative design makes this technology surprisingly more patient-friendly than traditional
MR systems. Because only the body part being scanned goes into the small magnet, every patient including the elderly, larger patients and
those with claustrophobia can enjoy a greater level of comfort with the same high quality results. Children can be joined by an adult in the
exam room. Because the head remains outside the scanner, the experience is quieter than that with a conventional MR scanner. As a more
comfortable patient is less prone to accidental movement during the exam, images are likely to be even more clear and consistent.

3-room Intra-operative MRI Suite (IMRIS)

This is India's first 3-room intra operative diagnostic and imaging solution where the patient is never moved. IMRIS brings MRI surgical
imaging to patients undergoing surgery and enables surgeons to leverage the unique ability to provide better outcomes for their patients. It is
the world's most patient-safe intra-operative imaging solution that allows the surgeon to accurately depict changes in brain position and
anatomy during surgery. IMRIS provides complete 360 surgical access to the patient and can service multiple operating rooms. At
Kokilaben Hospital, a 1.5 Tesla ceiling-mounted MRI is stationed in a diagnostic bay with two adjacent operating rooms on either side.

Orthopedic, ENT and Neuro-Navigation Systems

World over, navigation systems are redefining the way surgeries are performed. They enable surgeons to achieve greater precision by
providing electronic guidance using computers, infrared cameras and wireless instruments. Surgeons can effectively make data-driven
decisions in the operating room by incorporating the three technological innovations that provide a data-rich, visual surgical environment
that helps reduce procedure invasiveness, risk and operative times.

Radiation Oncology Linac Suites

The Trilogy stereotactic system is the most advanced, sophisticated machine of its kind in the world. As the leading image-guided
radiotherapy (IGRT) system, Trilogy marks the beginning of a new generation of cancer care. The versatile system combines imaging and
treatment technologies, and can be used to deliver the widest range of external beam radiotherapies: 3D conformal radiotherapy, IMRT,
fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy and intensity-modulated radio-surgery, for cancer and neurosurgical treatments. Advanced
imaging capabilities built into the system allow therapists to position patients for treatment with sub-millimetre accuracy. A respiratory
gating system compensates for any tumour movement that occurs as a patient breathes. The system at Kokilaben Hospital is powerful and
can deliver radiotherapy doses at least 60 percent faster than conventional accelerators. This shortens the length of time patients need to
spend undergoing treatment. In addition, the radiation beam is highly precise, allowing clinicians to deliver treatments with unprecedented
accuracy.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery
The Novalis TX at Kokilaben Hospital is among the world's first whole radiosurgery systems for indications in the brain, liver, pancreas,
prostate and lung. It enables small, deep-seated tumours to be treated by radiation without open surgery, and offers a versatile combination
of advanced technologies for the treatment of tumours and other anatomical targets. With this platform, the Kokilaben Hospital offers stateof-the-art, non-invasive treatment for a wide range of cancers and other potentially debilitating conditions, without harming nearby healthy
tissue and without involving traditional surgery.
Patients today demand the highest quality of care, including a comfortable exam experience and the assurance that the diagnosis is the most
accurate possible. When you combine 3T with a 70 cm open bore, you give them just that. More space limits claustrophobic rejections,
fewer patients need to be sedated, and sharper images are captured thanks to less anxiety-related movement. The 3T system at Kokilaben
Hospital accommodates patients with special needs and conditions including spinal deformities, respiratory problems and those with pain
and mobility issues. It also allows us to expand care to a wider range of patients including obese, paediatric, elderly, ICU patients or those
dependent upon medical equipment. The 3T broadens clinical possibilities with easy access in interventional MRI and opportunities to
perform more functional studies (using the functional MRI tool).

40-slice PET/CT
India's first, Positron Emission Tomography - Computed Tomography (PET-CT) is a medical imaging device that combines both a Positron
Emission Tomography and an X-ray Computed Tomography, so that images acquired from both devices can be taken sequentially, in the
same session, from the patient and combined into a single superimposed image. PET-CT has revolutionised medical diagnosis by adding
precision of anatomic localisation to functional imaging, which was previously lacking. For example, in cancers, surgical planning, radiation
therapy and cancer staging have been changing rapidly under the influence of PET-CT.

Dual Source Cardiac CT (DSCT)

The latest revolution in CT is the new Dual Source CT technology that pioneers new clinical opportunities. Our DSCT is faster than every
beating heart, can obtain full cardiac detail at half the dose of radiation, serves as a one-stop diagnosis in emergencies, and goes beyond
visualisation with dual energy. Twice as fast as other cardiac CT scanners and less influenced by irregular heart rhythms, it eliminates the
need for beta-blockers to slow down the heart rate prior to cardiac scanning. The DSCT at Kokilaben Hospital opens the door to a new
world of characterization; visualising the chemical composition of the human body. The result: two spiral data sets acquired in a single scan
providing diverse information, which allows us to differentiate, characterise, isolate, and distinguish the imaged tissue and material
composition.

SPECT
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) is a nuclear medicine imaging technique using gamma rays. SPECT can be used
to complement any imaging study where a true 3D representation is needed, such as tumour, infection, thyroid or bone imaging. As SPECT
permits accurate localisation in 3D space, it is used to provide information about localised functioning of internal organs; for instance,
functional cardiac or brain imaging.

da Vinci Surgical System (Robot)

With the da Vinci Surgical System (Robot), surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures as
well. Robotic Surgery, computer assisted surgery and robotically assisted surgery are terms for technological developments that use
robotic systems to aid in surgical procedures. Robotic Surgery was developed to overcome both the limitations of MIS and enhance the
capabilities of surgeons performing open surgery.
Some of the major benefits experienced by the surgeons using the Robotic Surgical System over traditional approaches have been:

Greater Surgical Precision

Increased Range of Motion
Improved Dexterity
Enhanced Visualisation
Improved Access
Whereas the benefits experienced by the patients include

Shorter Hospital Stay

Lesser Pain
Lower Risk of Infection
Lesser Blood Loss
Fewer Transfusions
Less Scarring
Faster Recovery Quicker Return to Normal Daily Activities

Six Reasons to Work at a Hospital

Megan Malugani, Monster Contributing Writer

While previous generations of health professionals were destined to spend their entire careers working in hospitals, today's
healthcare employees have abundant workplace options. So why should healthcare workers choose hospitals? Industry
insiders share six good reasons:
A Sense of Pride
While the demands and stresses of hospital work are many, so are the rewards that come from helping people in need.
"Hospital work is unique," says Debra Stock, the American Hospital Association's vice president of member relations.
"Everything you do supports families and patients when they are at their most vulnerable. It really is a very special type of
work." Hospital workers can also take pride in the fact that "hospitals are the backbones of communities, and what you do
directly supports the community," she says.
Opportunities Galore
Nearly 5.7 million people work in hospitals, and the demand is growing for even more hospital employees. "The long-term
outlook for hospital jobs is excellent," Stock says. "As Baby Boomers get older, they will consume more healthcare and
hospital services." The demand for nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, imaging technicians and other hospital
workers continues to rise.
Potential for Growth
Hospitals offer tremendous opportunities for professional development and exploration, says Colleen O'Leary, RN, a staff
educator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. "In a hospital setting, there is always something new and exciting
to learn," she says. "You can go to programs and get involved in research projects. Whatever you're interested in, you can
find in a hospital setting."
Welcoming to Everybody
Hospitals are an especially good place for novice nurses to start their careers, according to O'Leary. "It is a structured setting
in which new graduates can get a good taste of different kinds of nursing," she says. "They can find out what energizes them
and makes them want to come to work every day."
Hospitals are also a "fantastic workplace for people considering second careers," Stock says. "Many healthcare professions
require only two or so years of study. These professions are going to continue to be in high demand."
Relative Flexibility and Stability
Hospitals are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. "Hospitals offer a lot of flexibility in terms of when and how people
want to work," Stock says. Plus, many hospitals have long histories and secure futures compared with companies in other
industries. This relative stability appeals to risk-averse workers.
Cutting-Edge, Bleeding-Edge
Hospital jobs offer something for everyone, from information technology specialists to patient advocates. "Hospitals offer all
different types of careers," Stock says. "We're very high tech but also very high touch." Many hospital careers combine both
elements.

As an oncology-certified nurse at a comprehensive cancer center, O'Leary gets to use cutting-edge equipment, but also forms
old-fashioned bonds with her patients. "I became a nurse, because I wanted to make connections with patients," O'Leary
says, and her hospital job allows her to do just that.
