January 2016 News

It is the start of a new year here in South
Africa. We really enjoyed our Christmas break
with family and friends. We loved
reconnecting to our church family as
well. We enjoyed speaking to our Grove
Level church family and the GA's there. We
are back in South Africa now. We are hard at
work preparing for the next group of interns
to arrive and serve with us at Ethembeni
Ministries. We are sharing the gospel in
Shiyas door to door and teaching knitting to
the people. We will catch you up on Elizabeth
and Jacob news too. It is an exciting start to
the New Year. We can't wait to see what God
will do in 2016!

Open Doors
Thomas enjoyed his opportunity to
share what God placed on his heart
during the morning service Jan 3rd at
our home church, Grove Level Baptist.
We both got to talk about the open door
God has placed before us at Ethembeni
Ministries. We are excited
about training new interns in evangelism
and discipleship as they go with us door
to door in Shiya's. If you would like to
hear the talk, just go to our church's
website at: http://grovelevel.org/#/media.
Then Click on" launch media player".
Select the sermon titled "Charlie
Bridges/Queens on 1/3/16 at 10:50am".

Girls in Action Time

It was so much fun talking to the GA's at our church on January 6th. These curious
little 1st-6th grade girls loved learning about the Zulu people in Shiya's. They had lots
of questions since they never knew that some children live without running water and
electricity in their home. Most of all, they loved learning a Zulu worship song!

Knitting the Gospel of

Hope
On house visits this week, we tried a
new approach. We shared the story
of David and Goliath then taught our
Shiya's friends how to knit. They
were quick learners (much quicker
than me!). We hope to help them knit
a blanket before winter arrives.
Afterwards, we went door to door,
visiting sicker folks and dispensing
the donated medicines that Grove
Level sent back with our family.

Christmas Buddies
We all loved being reunited with
Elizabeth in December as you
can see. She is her Papaw's
princess. She had a terrific first
semester at Lee University. She
aced her classes and still
intends on being a math teacher
if her Calculus class cooperates
(HA- but for real!). We know God
will use her mightily leading her
dorm floor bible studies. She
intends to help in her local
church's middle school connect
groups too. Please continue to
pray for her as she has very hard
classes this semester.

Fastest Man on Ice

Jacob loved his Christmas break
stateside. He absolutely loves cold
weather so ice skating outside was
totally up his alley. He also enjoyed
rock climbing in the downtown
Chattanooga area. Most of all he loves
making Krystal burgers disappear! He
started 9th grade at St. Charles
January 19th. He will be in the pool a
lot swimming for his school and
playing water polo. You could say, he
loves water if thawed or frozen.
