A Final Reflection
In the past nine weeks at the University of Nebraska, I have been faced with
situations that are very different from what I have previously experienced. Throughout
high school I have known where I was going, what I was going to do, and who I was going
to be. However, collegealreadyhas shown me that I do not fully have the answers to
my future, and that I need to continue to answer questions about myself that I do not know.
During my time at UNL, I have gained a clearer picture of who I am as an
individual. It was only the first week of classes when I decided to attend Catholic Mass;
however, my exploration of faiths has become a defining experience in my life. I ham
breaking out of my shell and moving from beyond the protective curtain of my parents: I
am taking responsibility for my actions and finding myself in the process. I have learned
how to set boundaries with people I care about to protect both them and myself. I cannot
take on their burdens and expect to not feel the stress of life. Even if I truly care about
someone, I need to understand that I am not responsible for their well-being.
Learning about my strengths have helped my understanding of myself. One of my
new, key strengths in deliberative: I consider all possible actions before I progress. Until
this point I did not realize why it often took so long for me to make decisions. However,
after understanding my strength, I hope to capitalize on my cautious nature and make the
best, logical decision possible.
The new information I have obtained through BSAD 111 has also changed my
goals. Earlier this year I changed my major from Supply Chain Management Systems to
Management with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Innovation. During my trip with the
College of Business Administration Honors Academy to Kansas City, we toured the

Kansas City Startup Village. During our tour of Silicon Prairie, I realized that I do not
wish to work in the corporate atmosphere where many CBA graduate work, and working
with a startup company is where I feel I can make a difference in our world. Although I
plan on taking a few supply chain courses while I am studying at UNL, I feel that my focus
should be on fostering my own entrepreneurial spirit while still in college.
Finding my strengths changed the way I approach my life. I realized throughout the
class that I can use my strengths to my advantage. Instead of focusing so heavily upon my
weaknesses, I should focus more upon developing my strengths into useful tools in the
business word. Being able to analyze information, but also communicate with people,
gives me an advantage when working in a startup company. To be successful, I need to fine
tune strengths to better prepare to take advantage of the opportunities that I have around
me.
Because of the BSAD 111 course, I have found a new perspective of those around
me. Throughout high school, I struggled to understand why people thought so differently
than me; however, I have come to realize that everyones experiences make them different
individuals. Even greater than that, I learned that I cannot assume someone will act a
certain way because they are similar to people I knew from the past. Although they may be
similar, they do not have the same experiences and will not always act the same way.
My future aspirations in the College of Business Administration is to strive to
develop my strengths in a manner that takes advantage of the organization, class, and
professor offerings in CBA. Becoming a leader in organizations that match my interests
will give me leadership experience to lead teams within my company. I will be able help
develop the strengths of my employees for the betterment of the company but also the
betterment of the individual. By developing the strengths of others, the company takes
advantage of the added productivity the individual gains, but the individual also gains.

My future aspirations at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are to continue to be
involved in organizations that make an impact in my community. The Neihardt Executive
Board and the University Honors Ambassadors do great things in the community, and I
hope to continue to stay involved in these organizations. Also, as I progress through the
university, I hope to become involved in other organizations. Someday, I hope to be
involved in organizations at a larger scale by taking on leadership positions and giving
back to the organization.
The information I have received in BSAD 111 has helped me to define a clearer
picture of how I can achieve my goals. I now understand that if I take advantage of the
opportunities offered by the College of Business Administration, I will be ready to enter
the business world. By starting to understand now the needs of American consumers, I can
enter the business field with insight that will give my company an advantage. The
resources I have been exposed to will make my goals easier. By garnering connections
with individuals already in the startup field, I can potentially obtain internships, mentors,
and a support system for when after I graduate.
In conclusion, the BSAD 111 course helped to define my path at UNLand
beyond. Already in the first nine weeks of college I am being faced with a variety of
choices to make. Although it initially was a struggle, I feel ready to take on the
opportunities I will be faced with in the next four years.
