I. INTRODUCTION MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE (OSS)
Open source software (oss) is defined as computer software for which the sourcecode and
certain other rights normally reserved for copyright holders are providedunder a software
license that meets the Open Source Definition or that is in the public domain. This permits
users to use, change, and improve the software, andtoredistribute it in modified or unmodified
forms.

MEANING OF HARDWARE
A computer's hardware consists of the physical components necessary to operateand interact
with a computer. Since a computer's primary language is binary, devices are necessary to
convert our input into that language. The binary codecoming out of the computer must also
be translated into something usable for theoperator.
MEANING OF SOFTWARE
Software is often divide into two categories:1.
System Software
:
Includes the operating system and all the utilities that enables the computer to function.
2
.
Application Software
: Includes programs that do real work users. For examples, word proccessors, spreadsheets,
and database management system fall under category of applicationsoftware.

2.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM (OS)2.1 MEANING OF

OPEN SOURCE OS
Open Source Operating System is the most important program that runs ona computer that is
free to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute itin modified or unmodified
forms. Every general-purpose computer must have anoperating system to run other programs.
Operating systems perform basic tasks, suchas recognizing input from the keyboard, sending
output to the display screen, keepingtrack of files and directories on the disk, and controlling
peripheral devices suchas disk drives and printers.
2.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE OS
KUBUNTU LINUX
A user friendly operating system based on KDE, the K desktop Environment. With a
predictable 6 month release cycle and part of the Ubuntu project, Kubuntuis the GNU/Linux
distribution for everyone. Improved desktop, updatedapplications and increased usability
features are just a few of the surprises withthis latest release.

FEDORA LINUX
A Linux-based operating system that showcases the latest in free and open sourcesoftware.
Fedora is always free for anyone to use, modify, and distribute. It is built by people across the
globe who work together as a community: the FedoraProject. The Fedora Project is open and
anyone is welcomed to join.

3.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATIONSOFTWARE3.1 MEANING OF

OPEN SOURCE APPLICATIONSOFTWARE
Open Source Application Software includes database programs, word processors, and
spreadsheets and others. It is free to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute
it in modified or unmodified forms.
3.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATIONSOFTWARE
WEB BROWSER

A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversinginformation

resources on the World Wide Web. An information resourceisidentified by a Uniform
Resource Identifier (URI) and may be a web page, image, video, or other piece of content.
Hyperlinks present in resources enable userseasily to navigate their browsers to related
resources. The major web browsersare Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome,
Apple Safari, and Opera.

SPREADSHEET
A spreadsheet is a computer application that simulates a paper, accounting worksheet.
Itdisplays multiple cells usually in a two-dimensional matrix or grid consisting of rows
andcolumns. Each cell contains alphanumeric text, numeric values or formulas. A formula
defineshow the content of that cell is to be calculated from the contents of any other cell
(or combination of cells) each time any cell is updated. Spreadsheets are frequently usedfor
financial information because of their ability to re-calculate the entire sheet
automaticallyafter a change to a single cell is made. A pseudo third dimension to the matrix is
sometimesapplied as another layer, or layers/sheets, of two-dimensional data.

The Canon Pixma MX360 was first introduced by Canon in January during CES 2011. It is
anentry level model designed for small office/homeoffice use, alongside the Pixma MX410.
We havealready reviewed the leading flagship inkjet outof the bunch, the Pixma MX882, and
the inkjetthat is one step down from it, the Pixma MX420. Now we will take a look at the
MX360. Thisfour-in-one can print, scan, copy, and fax andconnects to a computer via
HighSpeed USB 2.0(note that the MX410 has wireless connectivity). It has an automatic
document feeder that can fitup to 30 sheets and a 100-sheet rear feed tray. Wetested the
MX360 and found that it can print up to8 black and white pages per minute under thedefault
settings. The MX360 has a list price of $79.99; check out our full review below to find

you. Our reviews include an overview of specifications, testing results, a summary of

the build and design, and more.out if this is the suitable inkjet for your office atthat price.

5.0 PERVASIVE COMPUTING5.1 MEANING OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING

Pervasive computing (also called ubiquitous computing) is the growing trend
towardsembedding microprocessors in everyday objects so they can communicate
information. Thewords pervasive and ubiquitous mean "existing everywhere." Pervasive
computing devices arecompletely connected and constantly available. Pervasive computing
relies on the convergenceof wireless technologies, advanced electronics and the Internet. The
goal of researchers workingin pervasive computing is to create smart products that
communicate unobtrusively. The products are connected to the Internet and the data they
generate is easily available.
5.2 EXAMPLE OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING
SMART TV
Smart TV, which is also sometimes referred to as "Connected TV" or "Hybrid TV", (not to
beconfused with Internet TV, Web TV, or LG Electronics's upcoming "SMART TV" branded
NetCast Entertainment Access devices), is the phrase used to describe thecurrent trend of
integration of the internet and Web 2.0 features into modern televisionsets and set-top boxes,
as well as the technological convergence between computers and thesetelevision sets /set-top
boxes. These new devices most often also have a much higher focuson online interactive
media, Internet TV, over-the-top content, as well as on-demand streaming

media, and less focus on traditional broadcast media like previous generations of
televisionsets and set-top boxes always have had.The technology that enables Smart TVs is
not onlyincorporated into television sets, but also devices such as set-top boxes, Blu-ray
players, gameconsoles, and other companion devices. These devices allow viewers to search
and find videos, movies, photos and other content on the web, on a local cable TV channel, on
a satellite TVchannel, or stored on a local hard drive.
GPS
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based global navigation satellitesystem
(GNSS) that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the
Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. It
ismaintained by the United States government and is freely accessible by anyone with a
GPSreceiver. The GPS project was developed in 1973 to overcome the limitations of
previousnavigation systems, integrating ideas from several predecessors, including a number
of classifiedengineering design studies from the 1960s. GPS was created and realized by the
U.S.Department of Defense (USDOD) and was originally run with 24 satellites. It became
fullyoperational in 1994.

6.0 CONCLUSION
Open Source can be used by anyone and because it has no copyright claims, so users are free
touse, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified
forms.Pervasive Computing is to make our lives easier because we can interact with
computers.Besides that, we can easily give the computer commands and the computer will
grant your wish.
