Mock Sessions & Verbatim Session Critiques
Interview someone/or your classmate and explore their issues.
Meet at least 3 times. At least meet once by Jan1 (our class
meeting). Each session about 30 -40 min. Record the sessions.
One must be video recorded. Use the forms given: Intake form,
informed consent & session notes for every session. After the
3rd session give evaluation form. You can choose your
classmates. Write one verbatim transcript of the video
recorded session (only 1 session) using the format given. Bring
it to the next class with the video of the session.

The objectives of this course are to:


1. learn and understand the use of micro skills in counseling;
2. practice mock counseling sessions with fellow course mates
under the instructor's supervision;
3. review and reflect on their ability to use counseling skills
effectively and appropriately in the sessions
4. critically evaluate their own taped sessions and verbatim;

This course presents the basic skills of interviewing:
attending, focusing and following, effective inquiry,
paraphrasing,
summarization
and
reflection
of
content/feeling, etc. It will provide laboratory experiences in
counseling, analysis of counseling interviews; role-playing
among students, and closely supervised individual counseling

sessions in the laboratory setting. The sessions are taped and


reviewed for individual or group supervisions and
