4.3
11-TMSS-01, Rev. 0
Manufacturer's drawings shall show the outline of the power cable, together
with all pertinent dimensions. Any variations in these dimensions due to
manufacturing tolerances shall be indicated.
Design Criteria
4.2.1
4.2.2
4.2.3
4.2.4
The cable design shall prevent ingress of water radially and longitudinally.
Manufacturer shall clearly indicate the cable components providing the above
water ingress prevention.
4.2.5
Materials
4.3.1
Conductor
The conductor shall be circular, compacted or compacted segmental, stranded
aluminum or copper, class 2 per IEC 60228. The conductor sizes shall be
400, 630, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600 or 2000 mm.
4.3.2
Conductor Shield
The conductor shield shall consist of an extruded black thermosetting
semiconducting material compatible with the conductor and the extruded
insulation. A suitable semiconducting tape may be applied between the
conductor and the specified extruded semiconducting layer.
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the conductor shield shall
be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
4.3.3
Insulation
The insulation shall be super clean cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the insulation shall be as
indicated in the Data Schedule.

Insulation Shield
The insulation shield shall consist of an extruded black thermosetting
semiconducting material compatible with the XLPE insulation.
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the insulation shield shall
be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
4.3.5
Metallic Shield
The metallic shield shall consist of copper wires with or without binding
copper tape(s).
The minimum short circuit current rating of the above metallic shield for one
second duration shall be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
IEC 60949 or ICEA Publication P-45-482 shall be used by the manufacturer
to determine the effective cross-sectional area of the metallic shield and its
short circuit current carrying capability.
The individual strand of copper wires shall be sized to withstand mechanical
stresses experienced during cable pulling and splicing.
4.3.6
4.3.7
a.
b.
c.
Jacket
The jacket material shall be black linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)
or linear medium density polyethylene (LMDPE)
The average and minimum thickness of the jacket shall be as indicated in the
Data Schedule.

4.3.8
11-TMSS-01, Rev. 0
Conductive Layer
A conductive layer shall be applied over the jacket to serve as an electrode
for testing the integrity of the jacket.
The thickness of the conductive layer shall be sufficient so that the jacket
integrity test can be done successfully. Thickness shall be as indicated in the
Data Schedule.
4.4
Fabrication
4.4.1
4.5
4.4.2
The cross-linking process shall be by the dry cure dry cooling or dry cure wet
cooling method.
4.4.3
The power cable shall be free of material and manufacturing defects which
would prevent it from meeting the requirements of this Specification.
Marking
4.5.1
11TMSS01R0/AAG
The jacket for all the cables shall be embossed marked in Arabic and English
at intervals not exceeding one meter with the following minimum
information:
a.

TESTS
All tests results shall be provided for review and acceptance by TBU.
5.1
5.2
6.0
Routine and type tests per AEIC CS7 or IEC 60840 are acceptable.
5.1.2
5.1.3
The completed reeled cable partial discharge test data shall be submitted on a
printout sheet of an X-Y recorder showing the partial discharge curve of each
cable.
5.2.2
A pulling eye attached to the conductor shall be provided at the outside cable end of
each cable shipping length.
6.2
The cable ends shall be sealed with a waterproof, heat shrinkable plastic or
elastomeric end cap with adhesive type sealing compound. Cable ends shall be
properly secured to the reel.
6.3
The cable shall be delivered without splices, on standard sized non-returnable steel
drums of sturdy construction properly packed and lagged externally to prevent the
cable from possible damage during transport. Wood lagging shall be used and have
a minimum thickness of 50mm.
6.4
