FEBRUARY 2, 2016

Dear Church,
On Sunday, we celebrated 70 years of ministry at Bixby Knolls
Christian Church. As I said in my sermon, it was a day to celebrate
and give praise to God for what God has done (and continues to
do) through us.
It was a simple celebration, but even so, many people worked
hard to make it happen. Sandy Jeglum and Leo Dittemore did a lot
of behind-the-scenes work, along with Pat Cohen. Also hard at
work behind the scenes was our church secretary, Monica Lanz.
Our choir (made up of current and former choir members)
shared a wonderful anthem in worship. Barb Peebles and Gretchen
Rugh planned the worship service beautifully, as they always do.
Ioane and Scheri made their wonderful contributions to worship
as well.
It was so good to welcome in worship Mayor Robert Garcia,
Councilmember Roberto Uranga, and regional co-minister Don
Dewey. Each shared some remarks and presented a certificate to
the congregation.
Did you see the article in the Signal Tribune? The papers managing editor, Cory Bilicko, took great care in writing about the history of Bixby Knolls Christian Church for the January 29 edition. A
copy of the article has been placed on the bulletin board in the
fellowship hall.
The excellent taco lunch was underwritten by donations
from church members, and prepared by Tacos Fufu. If you ever
find yourself in need of fresh-made tacos for a big event you are
hosting, give the owners, Fulgencio & Veronica Ceja, a call at 562326-1255.
Finally, if there is one thing Ive learned throughout all the
planning and celebration for Sundays event, its that Gods Spirit
is certainly at work making all things possible. It didnt even occur
to us to have a big celebration to mark our anniversary until two
months ago. We made the phone calls and sent out a few invitations, but the Spirit did the rest. Like everything else that happens
in our ministry, its all because of the Spirit at work among us.
For that, and for everything else, I am truly grateful. I cant
wait to see what God has in store for us next!
Blessings,
Pastor Danny

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10
5:30 p.m. in fellowship hall
Come one and all and bring a friend! For the meager price of $5.00 per person you
can have all the pancakes and sausage your tummy can hold! Drinks will be provided a
long with a good time to be had by everyone!

We realize that traditionally Shrove

Tuesday (pancake day) is a day earlier but we combine our fundraiser day with Ash
Wednesday. A simple service will follow the supper at 7pm in the sanctuary.

So come and support our music department and eat until the smile on your face is HUGE!
Blessings.
Barb and the many music volunteers!

Dont know what to do with all those greeting

cards from friends and family? Consider sending
some of them to St. Judes Ranch for Children,
where they will be repurposed into brand-new
cards by the kids who live there, and then sold on
their website. Proceeds help support the ranch
and its programs for children in need. Yearround, all-occasion greeting cards are happily accepted. Please review the following tips before
sending in your donation.
