The RSS is a Hindu nationalist movement, a right

wing group that was founded in 1925. Their

philosophy, called Hindutva, was termed fascist by
Communists, and their main demand of the central
government was that it stop appeasing Muslims and
other communities, the description continues,
adding, Hindutva has been translated to mean
variously: Hindu pride, patriotism, fundamentalism,
revivalism, chauvinism, or fascism. The group selfjustifies by asserting the natural rights.
But The RSS was banned in 1948 following the
assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by an ex-RSS
member, Nathuram Godse. The ban was lifted the
following year. Since then, the group has gained
popularity. It later began the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), widely considered the political arm of the RSS,
which now heads the central government of India.
Describing violence as Group Activities for the RSS,
the site further says, Violence has been a strategy
for the Sangh movement. It is often couched as a
method of self-defense against minority groups.
Hindutva has been clear about the need for violence,
particularly communal riots. The Sangh has incited
rioting to cause further chasms between religions,
and thus a further separation of religions, and to rally
the Hindu community around the philosophy of
Hindutva.

In 2015 Three Indians, alleging forcible to Hinduism
by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), have
joined a Sikh rights group in filing an amended
lawsuit appealing a US court to designate the RSS a
terror group. Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) said the three are
victims of the Ghar Wapsi campaign or alleged
forcible religious conversions launched by the RSS,
which is the ideological mentor of the ruling BJP at
the Centre.
The amended complaint has been filed by Micheal
Masih, Hasim Ali and Kulwinder Singh, belonging to
the Christian, Muslim and Sikh faiths along with the
SFJ and seeks the terror label for the RSS. The
complaint alleges that after the BJP came to power
in 2014, its ideological mentor is attempting to
forcibly convert their families to Hinduism.
The complaint filed before Judge Laura Taylor Swain
cites the 2015 report of the US Commission on
International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) which in
December 2014 noted that Hindu nationalist groups
announced plans to forcibly reconvert at least 4,000
Christian families and 1,000 Muslim families in Uttar
Pradesh as part of Ghar Wapsi programme.
"In the amended complaint, we have invoked
International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA) of 1998
which was enacted to express United States foreign
policy with respect individuals persecuted in foreign
countries on account of religion and to authorise
United States actions in response to violations of
religious freedom in foreign countries," SFJ Legal
Advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun said. "Based on

the evidence and recent report of the USCIRF, the

Obama administration is bound under law to declare
organisations like the RSS as terror groups," he said.
In April, the US had asked a federal court to dismiss
a lawsuit filed against Secretary of State John Kerry
by the SFJ that wanted the RSS to be designated as
a foreign terrorist organisation, saying that the group
does not have any entitlement to compel the top
American diplomat to make such a designation.
But Terrorism Watch & Warning has put the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in its category of Threat
Group and called it a shadowy, discriminatory
group that seeks to establish a Hindu Rashtra, a
Hindu Nation.
