Will we, as Christians, be held accountable for
the spiritual decay of the world?
Many of us realize that America is not just the physical
leader of the free world, but very much a spiritual leader also.
When visiting the Western nations, and many of the developing
ones, we discover that the churches often look to America to
lead. To some degree, these churches line themselves up with
what is happening in the U.S. Whether it is good or bad, true
or not, the winds that blow through the American church will
sooner or later find their way around the world.
D
oes God hold the American church to a greater accountability than a lot
of other nations? For more than 200 years, the U.S. has been abundantly
blessed by God. She has prospered spiritually, militarily, and economically.
She is the richest nation in the world. Yet, we see the danger signs: materialism,
complacency, immorality, humanism. God has made it clear that to whom much is
given much will be demanded.
Several years ago, Authors Tom Clegg & Warren Bird uncovered some
staggering data in their book “Lost in America”:
1) Roughly half of all churches in America did not add one new person
through conversion growth in 2000. 2) In America, it takes the combined
efforts of 85 Christians working over an entire year to produce one convert.
While this data was gathered several years ago, the fact remains—many
pastors are not equipping their people for the work of evangelism.
These statistics and others in the book helped convince Dr. Darrell Farney,
former pastor, now EE U.S. Director for the Central Region, to become a missionary
to North America with EE. “Through our Share Your Faith Workshops and EE
clinics,” says Darrell, “we are helping to train and What has Happened to Evangelism in America?
