ETHICS REFLECTION WEEK ONE

Ethics Reflection Week One

Ethics is a term used to describe values and goals, basic concepts and fundamental
principles of human conduct (business Dictionary, 2015). Knowing right from wrong and doing
the right thing is considered acting ethically. Within the corporate world it is necessary to have a
social responsibility for the community and employees alike. The social responsibility consists of
awareness, articulation, application or action. It is necessary to have awareness of the principles
of the foundation that define the ethical perspectives of others. The articulation is in relation to
the ability to express the basis of a persons position to justify their decision making processes,
the critical skill that actually enables an individual to communicate their perspective to others.
Then the application or action process is using the individuals understanding of the basis for
good choices and have the ability to explain the principles behind the decision or position and
then to articulate the ethical decision making process into the daily activities of the action to take
place (Pearce, J.A. & Robinson, R. B., 2013).
Stakeholders within an organization have an interest as do management, employees,
suppliers, customers, vendors, and shareholders. Each of these members within the organization
have a social responsibility within the community and the organization itself, to portray ethical
behaviors to better the good for all involved within the community as well as the organization.
The shareholder for example has the responsibility to ensure a good return on the investment and
management has a responsibility to equal and fair wages and to provide a safe work environment
to their employees.
At times there may be conflict of stakeholders or shareholders, this is why it is imperative
to have proper sound ethical decision making processes to ensure ethical social responsibility has
been met for all involved.

ETHICS REFLECTION WEEK ONE

Within my personal ethical perspective (University of Phoenix, 2015, week one web link)
shows I believe in doing what is right to meet the ethical consensus with all or the majority
involved. Doing what is right and ethical is to me, having a high integrity level. Therefore, my
personal profile reflects an alignment of obligation and the least ethical profile is of equity. This
analysis shows that personally I would need to listen more to shareholders and stakeholders in
time of conflict. This process will be what is required of me to reach the desired ethical decision
making obligation in the future. My current employer has the expectation of individual moral
responsibility within the organization and the accountability to do what is right. This approach is
supportable of my own personal value system in accordance to the Ethical Choices in the
Workplace Exercise. (University of Phoenix, 2015).
However my personal preferred environment also is characterized by individual trust and
empowerment to assume moral responsibility. According to the ethical choices in the workplace
it is necessary for individual development to open up to setting up efficient rules and social
systems to minimize moral responsibilities of the individuals. Although personally I do realize
the importance of individual moral responsibility as it relates to the organizations ethic
requirements.
