Dairy Background
To be blunt, my experience in dairy farming was unprecedented. It was way back 2 years ago that I
started my rigorous discipline to really do my job well as a dairy farmer. Since the Philippines is not
known in exporting dairy milk products to other countries, only few dairy farms are existing. I worked in a
small dairy farm in Mindanao(see attached resume) comprised of Holstein/Sahiwal breed. Aside from
working, I also took dairy farming classes at the same time(see attached resume). I go to work from 4am
to 5pm straight every morning from Monday to Friday and attend classes during Saturdays. And since the
Philippines is not that highly technological, we do almost all the chores in the farm manually. From milking
the cow, cleaning the milking area, formulating feeds, silage, welding fences, AI, etc., all of which are
done in the right procedures.
Later on, I was able to supervise my own apprentice in the farm. I've learned the administrative duties
and the daily operations by keeping records of milk production, feed supplies and delivery, either
manually or using a computer. With regards to machinery and equipment, i was able to learn how to use
milking machine and its proper maintenance, chopping machine for cutting different classes of legumes
and driving a tractor. In my day to day operations, I was able to developed good communications skills
wether in english or in our own dialect because of the variety of people i met and talked. This also
improved my personality on how to be well mannered in dealing with them. I had also developed good
writing skills due to different kinds of transactions from its daily operations.
All of which I did because of a better promise in the dairy farming industry, particularly abroad. At first, it
was purely motivated on seeking greener pasture abroad. But just like an undisciplined brat who doesn't
know what he wants but later on realized the true value of what he does, such is also my realization. In
the span of my work, I have come to realized that I really love what I do. From the classes that I attended,
it unlocks my potential to be the dairy farmer i can be. All of these experiences made me realize that I
wanted to learn more. It would be hypocrite of me to say that I abandoned my initial plan of seeking a
greener pasture. It is actually the opposite. That maybe if I have the opportunity to work abroad, it will
broaden my capabilities. I can learn more in my hearts content of all the knowledge I can get and this in
turn will pay dividends. It will give me the desires of a better future both educationally and financially.
