Atheena Marie B.

Palomaria
B.A. Sociology II

My name is Atheena Marie B. Palomaria. I was born on October 17, 1997 and I live in in
Brgy. Man-it, Passi City, Iloilo. My hobbies include reading books, surfing the net, hanging and
pigging out with friends, listening to music, watching KPop videos and sleeping. I also love to
cook. I am always eager to earn foreign languages. My favorite colors are gray and maroon. Im
an avid fan of One Direction, Girls Generation, and BTS.
My parents are Mr. Jonathan P. Palomaria, currently managing our small family business
and Mrs. Gina P. Palomaria, a secondary school teacher. I was the third child in the brood of
five. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. My elder brother, Stephen John, is now working in JP
Morgan Bank in Manila although he havent finished yet his degree in Accountancy in the
University of the Philippines Visayas. April Luna Joy, my elder sister is already in her fourth
year, taking up a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education major in Biology in West Visayas
State University and hopefully will graduate this March with Latin honors. Both my younger
brother and sister are in high school.
My siblings and I grew up in the place of my fathers side. I grew up way much closer
with our cousins in my fathers side compared to our cousins in my mothers side, although we
visit them from time to time. We grew up so close with each that we already treat each other
brothers and sisters. I even call our Titas and Titos nanay, tatay, mama, papa. The same thing
goes for my siblings and cousins.
My childhood has been a lot of fun. I really enjoyed my childhood because my cousins
and our neighbors kids are of the same age as me and can relate to my topak. I always know
how to act my age. As a kid, I was really fond of playing balay-balay and other outdoor games
such as tumbang preso, hide and seek, slipper games, etc. I was never interested in gadgets
before. I spent most of my time playing outside and became the reason why my skin complexion
during my childhood was dark. And because I always wanted to play, I really hate the idea of
siesta, or taking a nap after lunch.
During my elementary days, I had a lot of people who invested and had a lot of
expectations from me. My elder siblings have excelled in their classes and I have to do my best
because I know, even though they are not saying it, that they expect me to excel also in my class.
And I never failed their expectations. I was a school paper writer and was elected as the
President of the Supreme Pupil Government in our school. I also joined various academic
related competition where I won few. I was always at the top of our class since I was on my first
grade but I wasnt valedictorian when I graduated. Im still happy because I still graduated with
flying colors as the class salutatorian.

My high school years will always be an extraordinary and memorable experience for me.
I met a lot of friends, friends turned family. I always pressure myself to do well in class. Even in
high school, I still joined a lot of extra-curricular activities such as camps, trainings and
seminars, press conferences, and sports (cheering). During my first year to third year, I was
always on the top 5 but I never made it to top 1 nor top 2. During my last and fourth year in high
school, I even pressured myself to do better. I balanced my academics and my extra-curriculars, I
joined lot of camps and contests, became the assistant Editor-in-Chief of Ang Busilak, our
official Tagalog School Paper, and got appointed as the Finance Committee Head of the Supreme
Student Government. Because of my perseverance and my dedication, I also graduated as the
Class Salutatorian of the Special Science Class Batch 2014. But, I never wasted my high school
years on academics alone. I also have my mischiefs. Me and friends always stay at the even
beyond school hours just to hang out. We have done a lot of joy rides, even though we are all
forbidden to do that. I really enjoyed my high school years as much as I enjoyed the companion
of my friends.
And then I chose a large public university, University of the Philpiines Visayas, Miag-ao
campus, a lot farther from home than the small private college my parents hoped Id attend. I
always wanted to follow the steps of my elder brother, with his achievements in life. I also
wanted to take B.S. Accountancy, and I made it my first choice, but I guess that luck wasnt on
my side. And I ended up taking Bachelor of Arts in Sociology instead. My parents and my tita
wanted me to shift after one semester to Accountancy, but after being in this course for almost 4
semesters, I can now say that maybe this my luck. This is what my heart wants. This is where I
am destined to be. I dont have any regrets taking up this course. And also because I have heard
from our upperclassmen that sociology could also be good pre-law course. My family and a part
of me wants to proceed to law. I have already read and saw a lot signs that I should be lawyer
someday. One big sign is when my mother was already taking up law classes when she knew that
she was pregnant of me. Maybe I have to continue what has started. I also have plans on having a
double major in Community Development. I always wanted to help people that are in need and
also because I really love to travel a lot. I have dreams and hopes to travel from one place to
another after I graduated. I wish and I pray that I could sablay (graduate) on time and that I
may have a successful and happy life afterwards.
