Six simple guidelines to write SOP for UST

Please describe your life philosophy, focused on your formative

years.

To answer this question you need to write what you are and what you wanted to be. Why are
you motivated to get higher education? Philosophy of your whole life regarding education,
your belief (not Hindu or Muslim belief, please avoid religious or political views ), You
can also write any of your achievement. What is the biggest passion for society or country
you to get MS or PhD.

Please describe in detail your motivations for seeking further learning at this institution.

Why you choose UST among all universities in Korea as well as around the world. You
should write 2, 3 striking lines about UST, its faculty, research, research facilities etc and then
1, 2 lines about the campus in which you are applying. If you have acceptance you can
mention and write 1, 2 very impressive lines about specific lab and professor, otherwise
Google 3, 4 best professors of that campus related to your research and write their names and
your passion that you want to work with them. You have to convince them by your writing
that there is no other best institute then this in your opinion
3.

Among the traits and capabilities required by our institution

(creativity, challenge, convergence, credibility), please tell us which
one describes you best, elaborated with examples.

This is quite tricky question. You have to prove to them that you are very challenging and you
have achieved success in spite of many hardships. If you have any achievement then you can
mention. answer this question in such a way that you had very very very very hard life and
many challenges to get education like financial issues, social problems etc but you overcame
those all because of your dreams and struggle.
You have to praise yourself (not false) as much as you can.

Creativity means innovation of your research ideas, if you have very innovative
idea you can mention

ii)

Challenge means to face difficulties, great mental or physical effort in order to be

done successfully and therefore tests a person's ability

iii)

Convergence means uniting different ideas or technologies in one form. For

example you unite different ideas of research in one question or relate different
field to yours

iv)

Credibility means whether you are trustable or not (not that love or hate wala trust
professional matters). You can handle the confidential matters, information of
lab or institute, or other related things or not.

4. Among the courses you have completed (or academic fields you have
experienced) at the undergraduate /masters level, which was the one

that interested you the most and what are your accomplishments in
the field
Write one line about course importance and then mention the most relevant
courses to your research topic. You can mention your grades or if you conducted
research in your interesting subject, any related publication or internship etc.
5. Please describe your research plan at our institution in detail
Write your general field of research and something new that you want to do to
contribute to this field. This question is actually checking of your convergence
or creativity. So read recent (2015) 3, 4 good journal papers related to your field
and find out research gaps and write. But you should have some know how
about those.
6. Please describe your desired career path upon graduation in detail.
What you will be after 10 years? What you want to be after MS or PhD? You
can write that you want to be researcher or faculty member in your country or
anywhere.
