PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) DID NOT WRITE QUR'AN FOR MONEY

1. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was married to Khadija (ra) who was very wealthy woman.
So he did not need wealth. In fact Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was rich before prophet hood
and he became very poor when he started to spread Islam.

2. When he started spreading the message of Allah (swt) that God is only one, the whole
Mecca was against him and the unbelievers used to hurt him by physical means,
psychological means and they used to torture Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by any means
possible. Why would Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) create this situation for himself?

If he wanted to earn money, he could have done it to do things in favor of Arabs or through
any other means but we find that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) went against the Arabs, he
taught them not to worship idols and worship only one God and this message of Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh) ignited the fire in Arabs. Why he went against the Arabs for wealth? He
knew that spreading this message to them would result in the Arabs would fall on him like a
predator on its prey, and this is what took place. Why would he put himself in this harm way
to earn money? I can give you many examples of the cruelty of pagans of Quraish to
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). His life was made miserable by the pagans. This clearly shows
that his motive was not to earn money.

3. Once a representative of the pagan Arab by the name of Udba came to the prophet and
said… ‘If you give up this claim of prophet hood, we will give you all the wealth in Arabia.
We will make you the leader of Arabia and crown you the king. Only thing that we want is
that you should give up this message that there is only one God’ and the prophet refused.

4. Look what happens when the pagans approach to Abu Talib the second time:

“…The pagans of Makkah therefore decided to approach Abu Talib for the second time and
insisted that he put a stop to his nephew's activities, which if allowed unchecked, they said,
would involve him into severe hostility. Abu Talib was deeply distressed at this open threat
and the breach with his people and their enmity, but he could not afford to desert the
Messenger too.

He sent for his nephew and told him what the people had said, "Spare me and yourself and
put not burden on me that I can't bear." Upon this the Prophet (Peace be upon him) thought
that his uncle would let him down and would no longer support him, so he replied:

"O my uncle! by Allah if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left on
condition that I abandon this course, until Allah has made me victorious, or I perish therein,
I would not abandon it."

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) got up, and as he turned away, his uncle called him and
said, "Come back, my nephew," and when he came back, he said, "Go and preach what you
please, for by Allah I will never forsake you."

2. But we do not find Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) wealthy after his prophet hood. He did not
have even enough food to eat.
Anas b. Malik reported:
I visited Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) one day and found him sitting in the
company of his Companions and talking to them, and he had tied his belly with a bandage.
Usama said: I am in doubt whether there was stone on that (his belly) or not. I asked some
of his Companions why Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had bandaged his belly.
They said: (He has done that to relieve) his hunger. I went to Abu Talha, the husband of
Umm Sulaim, the daughter of Milhan, and said to him: Father, I saw Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) having bandaged his belly. I asked some of his Companions (the
reason of it) and they said that it was due to hunger. Abu Talha came to mv mother and
said: Is there anything? She said: Yes, I have some pieces of bread with me and some
dates. If Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) comes to us alone we can feed him to
his fill, but if someone comes along with him this would be insufficient for them. (Muslim ::
Book 23 : Hadith 5065)
Narrated Jabir:
We were digging (the trench) on the day of (Al-Khandaq ( i.e. Trench )) and we came
across a big solid rock. We went to the Prophet and said, "Here is a rock appearing across
the trench." He said, "I am coming down." Then he got up, and a stone was tied to his belly
for we had not eaten anything for three days. So the Prophet took the spade and struck the
big solid rock and it became like sand. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to go home."
(When the Prophet allowed me) I said to my wife, "I saw the Prophet in a state that I
cannot treat lightly. Have you got something (for him to eat?" She replied, "I have barley
and a she goat." (Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 427)
Narrated 'Aisha:
that she said to Urwa, "O, the son of my sister! We used to see three crescents in two
months, and no fire used to be made in the houses of Allah's Apostle (i.e. nothing used to
be cooked)." 'Urwa said, "What used to sustain you?" 'Aisha said, "The two black things i.e.
dates and water, except that Allah's Apostle had neighbors from the Ansar who had some
milch she-camels, and they used to give the Prophet some milk from their house, and he
used to make us drink it." (Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 466)
Narrated Qatada:
We used to go to Anas bin Malik and see his baker standing (preparing the bread). Anas
said, "Eat. I have not known that the Prophet ever saw a thin well-baked loaf of bread till he
died, and he never saw a roasted sheep with his eyes." (Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 ::
Hadith 464)
Narrated 'Aisha:
A complete month would pass by during which we would not make a fire (for cooking), and
our food used to be only dates and water unless we were given a present of some meat.
(Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 465)
Narrated 'Aisha:
The bed mattress of the Prophet was made of a leather case stuffed with palm fibres.
(Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 463)
Narrated 'Aisha:
The family of Muhammad did not eat two meals on one day, but one of the two was of
dates. (Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 462)
Narrated 'Aisha:
The family of Muhammad had never eaten their fill of wheat bread for three successive days
since they had migrated to Medina till the death of the Prophet. (Bukhari :: Book 8 ::
Volume 76 :: Hadith 461)
Narrated Sa'd:
I was the first man among the Arabs to throw an arrow for Allah's Cause. We used to fight
in Allah's Cause while we had nothing to eat except the leaves of the Hubla and the Sumur
trees (desert trees) so that we discharged excrement like that of sheep (i.e. unmixed
droppings). Today the (people of the) tribe of Bani Asad teach me the laws of Islam. If so,
then I am lost, and all my efforts of that hard time had gone in vain. (Bukhari :: Book 8 ::
Volume 76 :: Hadith 460)
Narrated 'Aisha:
When the Prophet died, nothing which can be eaten by a living creature was left on my shelf
except some barley grain. I ate of it for a period and when I measured it, it finished.
(Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 458)
Narrated Anas:
The Prophet did not eat at a table till he died, and he did not eat a thin nicely baked wheat
bread till he died. (Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 457)
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah Apostle said, "If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would not please me that
anything of it should remain with me after three nights (i.e., I would spend all of it in Allah's
Cause) except what I would keep for repaying debts." (Bukhari: Book 8: Volume 76: Hadith
452)
Narrated Abu Said:
Some people from the Ansar asked Allah's Apostle (to give them something) and he gave to
everyone of them, who asked him, until all that he had was finished. When everything was
finished and he had spent all that was in his hand, he said to them, '"(Know) that if I have
any wealth, I will not withhold it from you (to keep for somebody else); And (know) that he
who refrains from begging others (or doing prohibited deeds), Allah will make him
contented and not in need of others; and he who remains patient, Allah will bestow patience
upon him, and he who is satisfied with what he has, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And
there is no gift better and vast (you may be given) than patience." (Bukhari :: Book 8 ::
Volume 76 :: Hadith 477)
3. We find that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to distribute the wealth which used to
come to him through the booty in wars and charities given by people to everyone and does
not keep anything with himself.

Booty in Hunain:
The booty was six thousand captives, twenty four thousand camels; over forty thousand
sheep and four thousand silver ounces.

Abu Sufyan bin Harb was given a hundred camels and forty (gold) ounces and yet he said,
“What about my son, Yazeed’s Share?” So he was given the same quantity for his son as
well. But yet he exclaimed: “And what about the share of Mu‘âwiyah, my second son?” So
the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave Mu‘âwiyah as much as he gave his father and
brother.

Hakeem bin Hizam was given a hundred camels, but he was given a hundred more when he
demanded.

Safwan bin Omaiyah was given three hundred camels - a hundred camels at each time. It is
thus mentioned in Shifâ, Book by Qadi Iyadh. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave Al-
Harith bin Harith bin Kilda a hundred camels. He also gave some chiefs of Quraish and other
clans a hundred camels; he gave others fifty and some others had forty. Eventually it was
spread among people that “Muhammad grants generously and fears not to grow poor.” This
made Bedouins gather around him expecting to be given some wealth. They were so many
that they forced the Prophet (peace be upon him) to seek refuge against a tree and they
even took away his garment, “O people!“ He said, “Give me back my garment! For I swear
by the One in Whose Hand is Muhammad’s soul, that if I had as many numerous camels as
the number of Tihama trees, I would distribute them among you. You know quite well that I
am neither mean nor coward or a liar.”

Standing by his camel he plucked out a hair of his camel’s hump and held it between his
two fingers, lifted it up and said: “O people, I swear by Allâh that I get nothing but one-fifth
of your booty, and this very fifth goes back to you.” As soon as he had given the new
converts, the Messenger of Allâh (peace be upon him) ordered Zaid bin Thabit to fetch the
booty and summon people. Then he ordained shares to people. A footman’s share was four
camels and forty sheep, and a horseman would take twelve camels and a hundred and
twenty sheep.

2nd example:

A man came to profit and asked for some financial help, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did not
have anything to give to him, and afterwards two more men came to him for same purpose.
Then another man came and gave 4 ounces of silver in charity. The Prophet distributed one
ounce to each of the three persons and announced that whoever wants the remaining one
ounce, he can take it, but no one came to take it. Then it is narrated from Aisha PBUH that
at that night, the prophet was very uncomfortable, he used to do some rest then wake up
and pray, then again does some rest and wake up and pray, Aisha PBUH says that I asked
the prophet, what is the matter?, the Prophet replied that I have one ounce of silver with
me and I am afraid that what if I die with this wealth in my hands.

4. It was practice of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that whatever he had in his house, he used
to give it in charity and did not keep anything with him except for some necessary needs of
the house. He never loved wealth.

5. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did not leave any will or inheritance for his family because he
did not have any wealth.
