Effect of neuromuscular warm-up . . .

INTRODUCTION

Football World Cup is one of the largest and most popular sporting event.FIFA Word Cup
feature best technical skills and tactics to be found in football in soccer and influence millions of
amateur and recreational soccer players (zurich et al, 2004).Hamstring strain injury is one of the
most common injuries in sport, causes significant loss of training and competition and
significantly affects the quality of life of injured athlete (Liu, Garrett, Moorman & Yu 2012).The
hamstring strain injury is a condition well organized by medical personnel, coach and athlete
(Woods et al, 2004).

The largest and most exciting event for football players is FIFA World Cup.Players are
featuring their best move and skills to be found in soccer to motivate millions of football player
aspirants.Soccer is the worlds famous sport and also one of the sport that is prone to
injury.Hamstring strain injury is the most common injury among the athletes specially in sports
that have running and jumping movements.Hamstring strain is a common issue on coaches,
athletes and medical personnel.

Hamstring muscle injury has a high re-injury state, which frustrate the injured athlete as
well as the clinician and increast in the cost of treatment (Liu, Garrett, Moorman & Yu 2012). The
occurrence of hamstring strain injury during high speed running is generally believed to occur
during terminal swing phase of gait cycle, a perception that is supported by the findings from 2
separate injury case (Heiderscheit, Sherry, Silder, Chumanov & Thelen 2010).

Hamstring muscle strain injury has a high re-injury state, which frustrate the injured athlete
should pay expensively in the treatment as well as the clinician too.It will be a challenge for both
athletes and clinician to treat this condition. The Hamstring strain occurs during high speed
running by swinging of gait cycle, It may also occur by absorbing energy from decelerating limb
in preparation for foot contact. This injury may take a long time period to heal even if its trating
always.Bicep femoris may be contribute to be more tendency to have strain.

Effect of neuromuscular warm-up . . .

The initial Football Association Audit of Injury study found that 12% of all injuries reported
over two season were hamstring strain, this being the most prevalent injury (Woods et al, 2004).
Strength, power and their derivatives (acceleration, sprinting and jumping) all makes important
contribution to the performance potential of soccer players (chilly et al, 2010). Therapeutic
exercise and movements are designed to promote neuromuscular control with protected range of
motion, thereby minimizing the risk of damage to the remodeling muscle (Heiderscheit, Shelly,
Silder, Chumanov & Thelen 2010).Neuromuscular training programs may improve joint position
sense, joint stability and development protective joint reflex to prevent limb injuries (Herman,
Barton, Mallarias & Morrissey 2012). Injuries and sequale from previous injuries can also affect
the players to ability to perform (Arnason et al, 2004).
Factors that might affect football related injuries are insufficient warm up, poor flexibility,
muscle weakness, neural tension, fatigue, dys-synergic contraction of the muscle group and
previous injury.Plyometric training might be a good exercise for soccer players to improve their
strength, power and other abilities such as jumping and sprinting.Therapeutic exercise is
important to minimize the risk of damage to remodeling phase by promoting neuromuscular
control to range of motion.Football players may reduce their performance through previous
injuries.

To prevent injuries that reduces football performance of a soccer player. To improve strength,
agility and jumping skills of football player.

Effect of neuromuscular warm-up . . .

1.)What are the characteristic of subject in terms of Skill level, Shoe type, Playing
surface, Age, Sex, Aerobic fitness, Body size, Limb dominance, Flexibility,
Range of motion, Muscle strength, imbalance and reaction time
2.) What improvements that an athlete want to have?

Exploratory
1.) What are the effects of neuromuscular warm up in football performance?

2.) What are the relationship of :

2.1) skill level and football performance?
2.2) shoe type and football performance?

Hypothesis
Ho: Neuromuscular warm up has no significant effect on hamstring strain.
Ha1: Skill level will increase hamstring strain.
Ha2: Neuromuscular warm up will change football performance.
Significance of the study
Stakeholder 1: Football player, this study will help them to decrease the risk of lower limp
injuries in order to have proper training for soccer and improve football performance.
Stakeholder 2: Physical Therapist, this study will show us how we will handle athletes and think
a intervention as much as early during games or training.
Stakeholder 3: Future researchers, this study will be able to use this article or apply in future
studies.

Scope and Delimitation

The subject characteristic
The subject will include a group of male football players decreased football performance because
of posterior thigh pain or hamstring strain produced by running, jumping, kicking, walking and
weak quad muscles and unbalance hamstring strength.
Patient with hamstring surgery, previous surgery on lower limb

Plyometric exercise may be good for neuromuscular control, it was usually 5-7 minutes with 3
exercise.Forward jumps Double leg jumps-2-x3-4 repetitions, single leg hops(right and left) 23x2-5 for right and 3-5 repetition in left leg.Jump in place, Three alternative exercise split squat
jump, skate lea and cycled split squat jump with 2-3x8-12 repetition.Jump over stick or sticks,
Double leg Three alternative exercise(backward and forward hops, lateral and three dimensional
hops)-2-3x8-12 repetitions.Single leg three alternative exercise(backward and forward
hops, lateral and three dimensional hops)-2-3x4-8 for right leg and 1-4 for left leg repetition.

Assumptions
The football players will fully cooperate on the given exercise.
The football players will perform exercise to their best.
The football players did not receive any other treatment.
The FMS is a valid and reliable measure of Function.

Operation of definition of terms

Neuromuscular warm up: relaxed tension in shortened muscle reflexively prior to or during
