regarding implementation Water Supply and Underground Drainage Schemes

In response to the Writ Petition No. 30221//2009 (GMLiberties, Karnataka, Bangalore and State of Karnataka, the Secretary to the Government, Urban
Development Department, Government of Karnataka had sworn an affidavit dated 16.4.2012 as follows
It is submitted that there are 66 ULBs in the 8 Districts mentioned in the Court Order Dt. 7.3.12
namely Bangalore (Urban), Belgaum, Raichur, Tumkur, Gulbarga, Bellary, Bijapur and Dakshina Kannada
District. Out of these, UGD system is existing in 10 ULBs and work is going on in 18 ULBs. To cover the
rest of 38 ULBs and uncovered areas of 10 ULBs an amount of Rs. 4990 Crore is required. Apart from this
water supply system has to be upgraded to 135 LPCD from reliable water sources in 65 ULBs, for effective
functioning of UGD system and will cost Rs. 4834 Crores. The details of costing for providing UGD and
upgrading water supply in ULBs of these eight districts mentioned in the said court order is enclosed and
marked as Annexure R3. In the Master Plan, it is proposed to cover UGD system in all 48 ULBs during 12th
Five Year Plan. Simultaneously, upgrading of water in 20 ULBs will also be considered in the 12th Five Year
Plan. Rest will be included in the 13th Five Year Plan period
