Initial Jobless Claims
This is high-frequency data (every week), so the recent uptick isn’t the end of the world. However, this is
something that bears close watching because if initial jobless claims continue upward, this would be an
early sign that positive employment trends have stalled or reversed.
• Upbeat articles in WSJ and FT; says the Journal – “Evidence mounts of strong recovery”; from the FT
– “upbeat signals on US economy”; the London Times also is getting in on the optimism – “Markets soar
as America offers hope that the worst is over”
• Flights canceled throughout Europe‐ Several airports are shut and hundreds of flights canceled
across the U.K. as concern about an ash cloud formed from a volcanic eruption in Iceland forces air‐
traffic control to shut air space (Marketwatch)
• Greece ‐ EU's monetary chief, Olli Rehn, said there is no possibility that Greece will default on its
debts and no reason to doubt Germany's commitment to an EU pledge to help Greece – Reuters
• BAC – positive article in Bloomberg ahead of the co’s earnings on Fri – “may tell investors tomorrow
that gains from investment banking and brokerage services helped restore profitability after two

Foreclosure filings were reported on
367,056 properties in March, an
increase of nearly 19 percent from the
previous month, an increase of nearly 8
percent from March 2009 and the
highest monthly total since RealtyTrac
began issuing its report in January
2005. "Foreclosure activity in the first
quarter of 2010 followed a very similar
pattern to what we saw in the first
quarter of 2009: a shallow trough in
January and February followed by a
substantial spike in March.”
• AAPL PC market share ‐ Quarterly PC shipment estimates were released Wednesday, and Apple's
share of the U.S. PC market grew 34 percent year over year to capture 8 percent of the total domestic
