Report Studio Workshop 1

We will create some simple Report Studio reports in which we will use lists and crosstabs
primarily and will focus only on the new features added in the Cognos 8 Report Studio.
This workshop requires you to have the GO Sales databases installed on your computer
and GO Sales package published through the Framework manager.

List Report

Open a new report with package GO Sales in the report studio.

Add a list.
From the namespace Inventory , Add Product -> Product -> Product Line to the List.
Now add Inventory -> Closing inventory measure to the list.

Drill up drill down

In the menu, go to Data -> Drill Behavior

Enable Drill up drill down.

Now run the report. You can drill up and drill down on Product line.

Table Styles
Right click anywhere on the list and select Apply Table Style.

Various types of Pre-defined styles are available.

Apply any of them and run the report to view the style.

Conditional Rendering
1. Add Order method to the list. Click on the Order method and select the column
from
of the properties.
2. Click the Render Variable property and add a condition variable with expression :
?Render Order Method? = Yes
3. Select Render for Yes.

4. Now run the report.

You will be prompted to enter a value for Render Order Method. On entering Yes, the
query item Order method is rendered otherwise not.

Crosstab Report
Add a crosstab to a new report.
From the namespace Sales, add Product -> Product - > Product Line to the row and Time
-> Time -> Year to the column.
Now add Sales - > Revenue to the crosstab as measure.

Slicer
Go to its Query.
Drag member Camping Equipment to the Slicer.
Come back to the page (You can do this by clicking

button).

Now run the report. You will see all the Product Lines and Years but revenue only for
Camping Equipment.

Crosstab Nodes
Add Product Type to the crosstab as shown.

Now add Order method - > Order method - > Order method to the crosstab as shown.

For each of the query item, a crosstab node is created.

Click Product Line and click
in the properties.
Go to Crosstab node.
You notice that the set of Product Line and Product Type is selected.

You can enable / disable the creation of crosstab nodes by going to the Structure menu
and clicking Create Crosstab Nodes.

You can edit the fact cell styles by right - clicking a Query item and selecting fact cell
styles or by using the Crosstab Member Fact Cells as shown below.
