Time

1. Anticipatory: Have you ever completed a logic problem? If

you havent, find a partner and take about 10 minutes to do
so. Logic problems are a lot like evaluating arguments. You
have to take what you are given and make a conclusion based
on the evidence.
2. Introduction: Today we will be looking at fallacies. Next
week we will have a Kahoot, over the types of fallacies, and
terms we have discussed so far in this unit. You will want to
take notes, because these are important. We will be

completing a vocabulary test on these sooner or later.

-Does anyone remember what a fallacy is? Ok, what about
fallacious reasoning?
-Remember fallacious reasoning is an error in reasoning or logic
of an argument.
-There are several types of fallacies and to be able to identify
fallacies in a claim we must know the types.
-I will identify the types of fallacies and provide examples
afterwards.
(Hasty generalizations, False Premise, Circumstantial, evidence,
Mistaken causality/correlation, False Analogy, Ignoring the
Questions, Begging the Question.) use notes.
3. Modeling: Now lets look at the power point for examples.
-We will begin with Hasty Generalizations. (Show examples of
fallacies on the power point.)
4. Guided Practice: Now your turn to practice. I have given you
a list of fallacies, and showed you several examples. Later
this week we will develop questions to use in our review
process. I havent decided if it will be a Kahoot or Grudge
Ball. Would you like to decide? Okay, now that that is settled,
this is independent work. These must be completed in class
so that you will be prepared for creating the questions we will
use next week for our review. It also helps so we can discuss
and I can answer any of your questions.
- Lets review each one and discuss. Please let me know if you
have questions, so that we can get them answered.
5. Group Closing: We will take some time to look at the film
and discuss.
6. Informal/formal assessment: Exit slip: name and define one
fallacy that you learned really well today.
