A. Definition of the following terms:

1. Curriculum
A document which describes a structured series of learning objectives and outcomes for a given
subject matter area. It includes a specification of what should be learned, how it should be taught, and the
plan for implementing/ assessing the learning.

2. Nursing Curriculum
A curriculum to prepare a professional nurse whose practice is based upon nursing science,
related sciences and the arts in order to promote, restore, and maintain the health of human beings.
Graduates of the program are generalists with the necessary base for graduate education and continuing
professional

development.

3. Curriculum Development
Curriculum development is defined as planned, purposeful, progressive, and
systematic process in order to create positive improvements in the educational
system. Every time there are changes or developments happening around the
world, the school curricula are affected. There is a need to update them in order to
address

the

societys

needs.

B. Answer the following questions:
1. What kind of graduates should be produced by the colleges of nursing?
A graduate must be well prepared and competent to meet the demands
placed on todays nurses. They are expected for their skills in critical thinking,

leadership, care management, health promotion and for the ability to practice
across a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
2. In your self assessment, after finishing the BSN program, are you adequately
prepared for?
(1) Beginning entry level as staff nurses
After finishing the BSN program, I am thankful that the school have prepared
me in the entry level as a registered nurse. I was able to realize the importance of
identifying what I know and do not know, taking initiative, building confidence and
self-awareness in taking responsibility for every decision in the care that I provide.
(2) Researcher
I am not really confident in terms of being a researcher since the allocated
time for us to prepare for our study was too limited and the background about
research is not that sufficient to meet the demand and expectations.
(3) Leader/manager
Leadership skills take time to develop. For me it was slowly gained years after
I started working as a public health nurse. It is very vital in the kind of work that I
have to be an effective health provider.
3. Expectations from the course
My expectation from the course is to help me hone my knowledge, skills,
values and identity so that I will be able to practice nursing professionally and
competently in the changing social and health care environment thereby
contributing to the health and quality of life of those I serve.
