ABSTRACT
In cellular manufacturing, Equipment and workstations arranged in a sequence that supports smooth material flow through
the process, with minimal transport or delay. A Manufacturing Cell consists of people and machines or workstations required
for performing the process steps.Cellular Manufacturing is an approach that helps build a variety of products with as little
waste as possible. The important thing is to promote continuous flow of products, with the least amount of delay and waiting

Keywords: cellular, workstations, minimal transport.

1. INTRODUCTION
To maintain a position in the global economy, manufacturing companies must continuously increase productivity. This
can be done in a various ways e.g. minimizing inventory cost, increasing machine utilization and reducing the direct
labor cost.
For example - if a process for a product requires cutting, followed by drilling and finishing, the cell would include the
equipment for performing those steps, arranged in that order.
If productivity can be improved for instance by reducing the labor content of the process, this should help to reduce the
manufacturing cost of their products. Several techniques are important to facilitate effective cellular layout design and
production.

2. REVIEW OF WORK CARRIED OUT

Fysikopoulos Apostolos (2013) have presented critical review on the energy efficiency of important
manufacturing processes Relevant conventional and non-conventional processes, utilized in the three major
industrial sectors of aeronautics, automotive and white goods are briefly discussed. Information related to their
energy efficiency is provided. The conclusions of both the analysis and the discussion comprise some practical
aspects and recommendations for the energy efficient use of selected processes. [1]
Nittaya Ngampak (2011) In this research, cellular manufacturing layout design based on Systematic Layout
Planning (SLP) and selection of facilities layout design by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are applied to a case
study of an Electronic manufacturing Service (EMS) plant. SLP was used to analyzed and designed possible
cellular layouts for the factory. In order to evaluate the best alternative layout, criteria for plant selection were
determined. These performance measures were weighted by AHP. Then, the best cellular layout design was
selected. This case study has shown the practical guideline for design and selection of the best EMS layout. This
research addresses the facility layout design by SLP and evaluation based on AHP. Cellular manufacturing layout
design was selected for a case study of EMS factory due to an inappropriateness of the existing layout. [2]
Shutong Xie According to auther, Machining parameters optimization is one of the most essential and interesting
problems in manufacturing world. Efficient optimization of machining parameters can produce high-quality
products with low cost and high productivity. [3]
Ram Kumar Yadav. Manufacturing process consists of raw material including machining, labour, power etc.
The manufacturing process may be done by casting, powder metallurgy, plastic technology. In older times (before

1960s) there was no method to improve the productivity but nowadays several techniques like Cellular
manufacturing, Group technology are widely used in manufacturing industries to improve the productivity. So In
this research paper, he tried to improve the productivity of a industry by the proper alignment or load balancing of
machines. [4]
Shahram Ariafar. Layout has a significant role on the efficiency of manufacturing systems, but it has not
received attention of researchers in comparison to cell formation in cellular manufacturing systems. In this paper, a
mathematical model for facility layout in a cellular manufacturing system is proposed that minimizes both intercell and intra-cell material handling costs. [5]
R.Kiaa. This paper presents a mixed-integer programming model for a multi-floor layout design of cellular
manufacturing systems (CMSs) in a dynamic environment. In order to achieve an optimal (or near-optimal) design
solution for a multi-floor factory in a multi-period planning horizon. The objective is to minimize the total costs of
intra-cell, inter-cell, and inter-floor material handling, purchasing machines, machine processing, machine
overhead, and machine relocation. [6]

3. CONCLUSION:
The main objective of this work is to taken an account of previous work carried out on cellular manufacturing. From
the review it can be noted that the company grows up due to the following reasonsThe high Production rate can be achieved by using automatic operation over the manual operation.
Reducing ideal time during operation. Avoid accidental risk during shift operation
