As well as working with directors and other company members, independent study is essential.
Resources:
Research is necessary, proof of which will be in your Tumblr diary. Rehearsals and performances will be observed
as evidence. Notebooks and correct clothing will be required. Your Tumblr diary will form essential evidence, and
this includes blogged entries, director/choreographer notes, comments and evaluations.
Relevant Departmental Notes: Assessment throughout this course is essentially formative, company members can re-visit criteria to arrive
at their final assessment grades.
Evidence: This will be in the form of blogs, observed participation, director observation, video recordings and research notes
This project is inextricably linked to all other performances
Grading Criteria: Pass, Merit or Distinction are attainable.
English and Maths: This project will include functional skills in English and Maths. Please bear in mind your industry requires eloquent
use of English and accurate use of figures, to which end, the continuing development of these skills are firmly embedded inside all your
work.
Note on copyright and plagiarism: This process will require independent research. Copying from the internet and additional sources is
not appropriate and violates copyright and will be classed as plagiarism unless fully annotated and credited. You must make your work your
own. We need to see that you have an understanding of the areas that you have researched. Copying work directly from ANY source will
not be tolerated. If you quote ANY existing material you must put it in quotation marks and in brackets, attribute the source / author. For
example: Copying is cheating (Robbie McGovan, 2013, Miskin Theatre)
The Brief
The ability to fulfill the role of session musician in recording and live situations requires the performer to have a wide
palette of skills that can be applied in variety of situations. In order to do this successfully they must first gain an
understanding of the stylistic elements that comprise a wide range of genres.
This unit is concerned with your knowledge of the stylistic elements across a wide range of musical genres Your
ability to develop stylistically accurate musical material for contrasting genres (and your ability to apply stylistically
accurate elements to a range of musical genres in different performance situations.
There are some questions that will be provided in session to help you. You may want to reference the material used in
your music performance in the music genres show Mixtape as well as your recording sessions in the studios.
Professional Practice: Please be aware that you will be putting professional practice into action within The Miskin
Theatre, which is a publicly licensed professional environment in which you are effectively an intern being given the
opportunity to publicly test your skills and gain creditable industrial experience.
You will perform different styles of music in rehearsal, at live events, and in good quality live and multi-track studio recordings
